Located in Sayulita, Mexico; 45 min. north of Puerto Vallarta, Casa Roja is close to everything yet a world away! Just a couple of blocks to the village plaza, known for great restaurants, or a 10 minute walk to the beach for the best surfing!
Your own private paradise! Whether you want to surf and enjoy the beach, or spend a day relaxing by the pool, you are guaranteed a beautiful stay! Sayulita is known for great restaurants, great beaches, and the best surfing, not to mention several easy transportation options. Conveniently located in a settled South Hill neighbourhood, Casa Roja is a 10 minute walk from the beach, and just a couple of blocks to the village plaza, where you can experience the vibrant local night life.
The Lower suite is a large 1100 sq ft with high ceilings, arches, well designed shared tropical garden with grill, walk out to pool area. Casa Roja lower has 2 spacious, bedrooms with comfortable beds one king and one queen, 2 baths, the ensuite has bathtub, – the other with large walk in shower. Open floor plan to large traditionally tiled kitchen with full-size appliances, microwave, coffee maker, blender, lots of counter space, and large family sized table.
Property changed ownership right before our stay so there were a few things that need attention and have been overlooked during the transition: photos on VRBO are out of date, some furniture was obviously taken by past owners and not replaced (no futon in entrance area, no safe for valuables as advertised, art on walls, etc.) It was advertised to have laundry washer/dryer in lower unit. New owners must have changed that because it is no longer allowed even though the machines are there in the outdoor pantry. We stayed during rainy season and got a fair amount of leakage from the ceiling over the master bed, which also caused the air conditioner to stop working for a couple days. We had a few other small issues: DVD player died from a surge during a power outage, gas/propane tank went empty which took 4 days to get filled before we had hot water and stove again, the purified water jugs ran out and never got replenished, one of the toilet's water shut-off was broken so we had to turn on and shut off at the wall each time.
The property manager did her best to have the maintenance and cleaning people respond to our issues. There were just so many small issues making it a hassle to coordinate among them pretty much every day of our stay.
All being said, the space was great. We loved the pool area (minus the outdoor shower which functions but needs some repair).
If the new owners put some love into it and address all of the issues I would consider renting it again. But if they leave it as-is, probably not (definitely not in rainy season with the leaking over the bed). Decent location, good amenities, great pool, air conditioning in both bedrooms, adequate kitchen, dependable wifi, and sweet staff.
We just came back from a week at Casa Roja Lower. The house is bigger than it looks on the VRBO pics. The kitchen is equipped with pretty much everything you need. They supplied a big garafon of water (5 gallon/19 liters) and beach towels, which was great. They even provided a portable beach parasol and an insulated beach bag for us!
The pool is beautiful and has 2 loungers, one Adirondack chair and there is a four-chair patio set as well (with parasol). The road in front of the house is very rain-damaged, so difficult to walk for the elderly or anyone with trouble walking. The walk to the beach is short - less than 10 minutes. There are two small convenience stores nearby - one is right next door (no beer there though), the other maybe 300 meters away.
Air conditioning was available and strong in both bedrooms and was sufficient to cool down the whole house. The house was very clean and well maintained.
The property manager, Patricia, was very responsive and friendly.
It would have been great to be given access to the washer+dryer that is on-site, but it was only for the maid to use.
Overall, renting this property is excellent value and we would consider renting it again when we return to Sayulita.
My family enjoyed our stay at Casa Roja. Traci and David are attentive owners. They responded quickly to any question we had and provided a lot of information about Sayulita. The house is less than 10 minutes from town down a dirt road that gives you a sense of a less-touristy mexico. The area is safe and there's a small store a couple of doors down where we were able to buy staples. The house itself is great - spacious, well-equipped and with a beautiful pool that my girls enjoyed. A nice bonus was a couple of boogie boards we were able to take to the beach. A couple of neighborhood cats frequent the yard and my daughters really enjoyed them. Finally, I'd encourage all visitors to Sayulita to visit the "secret beach," about 20 minutes down the road from Playa del Muerte. Absolutely beautiful and there were never more than 4 people besides my family the two times we went. Even though the surf was too high to swim, we really enjoyed it. I highly recommend Casa Roja lower.
We had a great time at Casa Roja! The accommodations are clean and quiet with tons of space. The pool was great to hang out by during hot afternoons. There are tons of fans inside if you need a nice breeze. We would totally recommend staying here if you have children.
Dave and Traci were very helpful. They know so much about Sayulita and were quick to answer any questions we had. Casa Roja is about a 5-10 minute easy walk to town, and it's about a 15 minute walk to the beautiful beach but you can't hear any of the noise!
We can't wait to come back again!
