Manifold Cottage is an above average sized two person pet-free non-smoking cottage, graded in the top half of four star by the country's official grading assessor, the English Tourist Board, and given an almost unheard of 100% for standards of housekeeping in the grading process. The cottage has a modern tasteful ambience but plenty of charachter features, in particular a large heavily beamed bedroom open to the rafters. The bedroom has a king-sized bed with extra thick mattress (and second television). The living room has a log effect stove with a settee and wing back chair plus a TV and DVD player. The TV receives full sky programmes, so including sky sports and films channels. There is fully controllable central heating throughout. The extremely well equipped shaker style kitchen has imposing real granite sink and gloss worktops. There are top of the range laminated floors of the highest quality throughout (where not carpeted). In January 2019 the bathroom was completed gutted - not that there was anything wrong with it, it was just we had taken out the immersion heater, giving us the opportunity of creating a lot more space, so went the whole way and changed everything. It has a full sized bath with shower over. So there is now a very smart and modern bathroom indeed! The photos of the bathroom have not yet been updated.
Wifi is available throughout the cottage serviced by super fast cable.
There is dedicated parking for the occupants of this cottage just yards from the front door.
Hartington itself is one of the honey-pot villages in the Peak District, being regarded as an excellent base for walking and cycling. This is helped by its location only a couple of hundred yards from the River Dove, which can easily be reached from the village over an attractive meadow and from there, there is an excellent riverside path down to Dovedale. As a result the village is able to support, despite only having 130 houses, several tea shops, two (excellent) coaching inns, a delicatessen, a grocers, two gift shops, a post office an art studio an antiques shop and famous cheese shop to which many make a point of travelling from miles around. There is also a duck pond which acts as a magnet to many visitors.
The village is approached down a gorgeous but easily driven 2 mile long dale road from one of the Peak District's main artery roads, making it extraordinarily easy to get around to visit the numerous attractions in the Peak District.
The cottage is centrally located in a private courtyard consisting of three cottages, and is therefore able to offer peace and quiet despite the village getting at times during the main tourist season or at weekends fairly busy. In the courtyard there is a barbecue and laundry room and provision for off-road parking of cars. There is some limited outdoor seating area with flower borders On the other side of the courtyard is a Sky sports room, shared with the two other cottages, but little used, so sole use of this room is almost certain.
Guests will see when proceeding to the booking page, that one of the fees included in the quote is called the base charge; this is because otherwise quotes for short breaks work out wrongly as this site's computer assumes that a two night mid week break is one half of a four night break (which it very rarely is). By putting in a 'base' charge and then reducing the nightly charge the computer generated figure becomes correct whether booking for two, three or four nights.
Please note that the computer generated quote is SOMETIMES too low for those looking for a short break that includes only one night of either friday or saturday (it is correct if the short break request includes both a friday and a Saturday night). If this situation applies, please simply complete the enquiry section to the right of this page or the 'Contact the Owner' bit (depending on which page you are on), rather than clicking on the ‘Request to Book' link , or 'proceed to booking’ link and the owners will send out a quote with the correct figure.
Visitors to this site will note there are only 5 reviews; However there are about 19 reviews on a competitors site, Airbnb, and visitors to that site will note that we have achieved five stars in the averaging of those reviews or more precisely all but one gave us five stars the exception being a guest who was having trouble with wifi and gave us a positive four star (since that review we have added a modem so that problem is less likely to recur)
