About Kelly Curry/ Lon Miller

My Name is Kelly Curry and I am a internationally known professional mural artist. I travel around the US and Central America painting large building murals. You can see my work on Rt. 12 between the bridge and Alexandria Bay across from the car dealership. Also down the road in Clayton NY is home to more than half a dozen murals painted by me. You can drive through the towns and see almost all of them by car. In Alexandria Bay you can see more of my work at the Cornwall brothers museum and in surrounding areas like Syracuse NY at the Erie Canal Museum and in Columbus Circle on the Catholic Diocese buildings.

Kelly Curry/ Lon Miller purchased this house in 2012

Why Kelly Curry/ Lon Miller chose New York

I bought this property because this is where my family first arrived from Ireland in 1850's.When my ancestor was 20 years old he came to log the area and he lived in Goose Bay. In 1963 my mother met my father here in Goose bay where she and her friends had rented a cottage for a short vacation. I felt like buying the home was really my life coming full circle, coming back to my roots.

What makes this house unique

A great view, by day river, sun and sky. By night stars and moon. Few things are more relaxing than sitting out on the deck on a sunny morning enjoying a cup of coffee or tea looking at the calm water of Goose Bay and the St. Lawrence river. You often see wildlife close up such as loons, ducks, geese and herons, osprey and jumping fish, and in the spring giant carp that look like mermaids when they breach the surface. Lots of turtles too!

Wonderful Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the home we rented from Kelly and her family. It was just as represented, clean and homey. Loved the house very much! The extra effort to make the dock workable due to the water levels was appreciated and it worked out fabulous. Will definitely want to go there again! Thank You Kelly for a wonderful vacation.

Owner's Response: Thank you! We absolutely enjoyed hosting you and your family. We appreciate that you took such good care of our home, and left it "exactly how you found it"! We love the tiki torches you left us too! We hope to see you next year :)

Beautiful location, but slippery

  • 3 of 5

Kelly met us and showed us the property. The area is remote and beautiful. Kelly let us know the dock was underwater about 6 inches, but stated you could still walk, fish and put a chair on it. It was very slippery (with the moss growing) on the dock and very difficult to get our kayaks into the water and to fish. Three adults slipped in the water during the week and it was a bit scary, with the loose weeds. It was a tight squeeze with 10 people as the chairs did not convert into a bed and they were in the living room. These chairs should not be considered beds. although this was stated on the initial HomeAway site. The house lacked a bit of charm. The sunsets were great! We do appreciate Kelly being available if we had questions.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. Yes, it's true there was moss growing on our dock that has been underwater for two months. This has been a very unusual year as the river is three feet higher than normal. This is why I contacted my guests to see who would be using the dock, and I was informed by you, you would not be bringing a boat. So I was not concerned. I also stated that the dock was indeed very slippery, but myself and my family have been using the dock for fishing and swimming and none of us slipped or fell. I am sorry to hear about your family members. My site clearly states that the chairs make great beds for children, you did not bring children. There are 4 bedrooms that sleep 2 people in each bed, that is 8 plus a large couch, my site lists 9-13 people as there is room for blow up beds to accommodate the rest. I did not appreciate that your party rearranged our furniture but did not put it back where it was or that I found our good kitchen knives and utensils in the garbage. Your party left our home dirty, food in fridge, table disgusting, and popcorn literally under and around all the furniture. I even purchased a brand new vacuum cleaner during your stay as you had broke the one we provided. Our home smelled horrible when we arrived to clean it, and I called in extra cleaners just to get it prepared In time for the next clients. You also were invited, and showed how to pick fresh veggies that were ready from the garden. However you damaged some of the crops so that they will not continue to bear for the rest of us. However, I was happy that you did check out on time.

Very nice, clean, quiet, and secluded.

  • 5 of 5

The house is quaint and was very nice and clean. Kelly was great. She met us at the house upon arrival to show us around. If we needed anything she was right there. I love how quiet and secluded the house is. We had a great time fishing and having fires in the fire pit. I would definitely recommend this house for anyone that wants to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Comfortable home with a beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

My family loved staying at Kelly's home on the river for my mother's 60th birthday. The home had plenty of space for a big family to stretch out in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The home had all the essentials for an enjoyable stay. The kitchen was well-equipped to cook birthday dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed the home and the beautiful area... we would definitely consider staying again!

Beautiful & Accommodating!

  • 5 of 5

Lon and Kelly were wonderful hosts - we were a larger group (11 people) and they were very accommodating and communicative throughout the reservation process. The house is in a quiet location with beautiful morning and sunset views. We enjoyed relaxing on the porch, roasting s'mores around the fire pit, and utilizing the outdoor grill. Overall, it was a great stay!

Location

Nearest Airport
30 Miles
Watertown airport
Car: recommended

Boldt Castle is just one of two large gilded age castle's in the area, and after it's 20-something year restoration it is beyond magnificent! A must see, tour boats run daily to both locations. Also there are several state parks most within 15 minutes of the home, one is a roughly 20 minute (very scenic, relaxing) walk away. One of my favorite places to take my family is the local drive-in movie theater, open 7 days a week and offers the newest movies released (changing every week) the same great movies you'd see in the regular theater for a fraction of the price, and a great way to make your vacation one the kids will never forget, located 5 minutes away by car. The river is also well known for it's variety of shipwrecks for those who are coming up to do some diving. And of course there's the fishing. If that's why your coming up here I need not explain how wonderful the area is for fishing, for those who are thinking about bringing a pole, the 1000 island region is known as one of the best fishing destinations in the entire country and it's reputation is well deserved!
