Guestbook comments from the owner

Today is our last day in the cottage.

This weekend we will be home in our flat country.

It was our first time here in Norway and I dare say we spoiled ourselves with the

best view of probable whole Norway!

The first few days we had beautiful, warm seater for this time of the year.

We enjoyed having breakfast, luch and dinner outside.

We went to Lærdal by ferry (beautiful views) on our way back spotted little

dolphins (we never saw one in the wild before, so we enjoyed it very much).

We also went on a little walk along the fjord (weird path on the side of the road

with rocks) which was very nice and gave us beautiful views from the other

side of the fjord and the waterfalls.

We even spotted an otter under the brigade near the Fjordtell!

Asbjörn told us that this does not happen very often.

Tomorrow se will go to Flåm by ferry and take the famous railway to Myrdal.

From there we will take the train to Bergen.

Asbjörn also told us to see the little craftshop. His wife makes beautiful necklaces

(among other things), so I could not rest.

We want to thank Asbjörn and his wife (nice talk we had)

for the hospitality and the peace and quiet that we enjoyed very much.

The view we will never forget and I am sure we will be back sometime in the future!

Even when cloudy or raining there is the magnificent view.

To the next guest we say: Enjoy yourselves!

"Takk for everything!"

Best regards

The sheep are lucky to live here.

The place is as wonderful as other reviewers have said it is. The cottage we stayed in was comfortable and homey, and we slept deeply with the sound of waterfalls all around. The scenery on all sides was spectacular, the people friendly and helpful, the sheep inquisitive but reserved. The view of the fjord from the bathroom window--even at 11:00 at night--will take your breath away. Asbjorn is responsive and helpful. I'm so glad we were able to stay at this place.

Truly Staggering Place. Most beautiful ever stayed

  • 5 of 5

Where to begin. Myself and my partner have just got back from a short stay here, I would get on a plane tomorrow to go back.

The location. Just Wow. Stunning views from every window, the fjord, the towering snow-capped mountains and watching the lambs play in the field. Really quiet and peaceful hilltop. Close enough to Flam and Aurland for attractions and shops but out on your own surrounded by awe inspiring nature. Plus the Shell garage near the property is a mini-supermarket so has everything you could need. The nearby Gudvangen hotel has café/bar and a few shops all within easy walking distance.

The house. We stayed in their Nikolaistova property. A gorgeous little Scandinavian house with plenty of room. Full kitchen and appliances where we cooked every night, bathroom (underfloor heating!) and spare WC. Wood burning stove was a treat and really efficient. The field surrounding the house is home to sheep with their lambs, wonderful to sit and watch them or simply stand at the window agog at the jaw dropping scenery. Asbjorn and Liv were great hosts, lovely to chat to and get some knowledge about the area.

We’re glad we went in April before the ‘season’ properly began, lots of snow on the mountains, local tourist areas and attractions very quiet. We went on the amazing Flam Railway and had a whole carriage to ourselves.

We are both now indeed pining for the Fjords and will certainly return.

Can’t recommend highly enough.

Quiet family get-away

  • 5 of 5

Our travel group included a 75-year old and three other adults in the 30-40 age range. We were looking for a pretty location to make home-base and to then take some day trips out and around the area. I agree with the other reviews that it's a wonderful view and the owners are friendly (and responsive). This VRBO stay was my favourite part of our two week trip.

The rooms on the main floor of the winter house were nicely set up with a library-type room (tv, books, fireplace), a living room that looks out at the Fjord, a heated floor in the downstairs bathroom, and a spacious kitchen. We didn't have any issues finding dishes, cutlery or service items to make meals.

You do have to park at the bottom of the drive, and walk up the hill to the house, but since we were out looking for daily walks and looking around, it was not an issue (not even for the 75 year old in the group). Plus, it was nice to be slightly removed from the town and to watch the ferries as they made their way along the fjord.

Thank you for making our visit to Norway all the more excellent.

Wonderful place , one of the best views in Norway

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful house at the head of the Naerofjord and must have one of the best views in Norway at the window in the lounge. The house has no forward neighbours so you get the full view of the fjord including the 800m high waterfall to yourselves. The photographs you see in the information are very good and for once the reality is even more amazing than the photos! The house is very beautiful inside and has two good size bedrooms for a family of 4 with 2 children. The kitchen is well equipped for self catering and the bathroom is good with a hot shower. The dining room has a beautiful fireplace and the lounge comes with a grandpiano!. The owners Ashbjorn and his wife liv are very nice people and very helpful. the location is good for all the local sjognefjord attractions including the gudvangen to flam cruises and the scenic routes across the mountains. Its also within a short drive to the other ferry crossings in the area. Thanks again to Ashbjorn for welcoming us to their home we had a very enjoyable holiday. - Tim Mellor Cambridge.

A grand fjord experience

  • 5 of 5

Look in any direction, UP toward the 360-degree vista of immense fjord walls and waterfalls that seem to descend from heaven, AROUND at the quaint farm buildings, orchards, and flowers in window boxes, DOWN at the calm, deep and narrow waters of the Naeroyfjord with picturesque ferry traffic and grazing shoreside sheep, musical bells signaling their locale, or simply, WITHIN the hytte, at the book-lined shelves, antique furnishings, and homey feel of the cabin...and you will see a magical place. We loved our week hosted by the warm and welcoming Asbjørn and Liv, who are longtime members of the Gudvangen community. Liv offers a treat of waffles or lefse with coffee at her picturesque shop of unique antiques and little treasures. So, I give this five star review because my husband, sister and I like a bit of adventure: a somewhat steep, but short, uphill walk to the hytte (the views come with some effort), an efficient and functional (but not luxurious) bathroom and shower, and a meadow stroll down to the boathouse dodging sheep droppings. Sit out on the deck off the kitchen with an ale and the grill going and mist flying off waterfalls in the late evening light and you will be transported. The bells of the sheep, the lambs calling to the ewes, the vista far down the deep fjord, the shapes of the rocks looking like...trolls? Skål for gamle Norge!

Owner's Response: Morrene & family, needless to say we enjoyed every minute of your visit, and like you mentioned on departure, we hope to meet you again on our wonderful hill. This is not only a review we appreciate, it is a literary pearl! Thank you again! Asbjörn and Liv Torill

Vacances de rêve

  • 5 of 5

Only a few hundred meters away from the house you will experience majestic mountains and hear the sounds of roaring waterfalls! During the winter they are frozen and you can listen to the echo of your own voice. Then there are also possibilities of cross-country and downhill skiing only half an hour away at the Myrkdalen Fjellandsby. Nearby attractions are further: Drive the hairpin bends down from the famous view from Stalheim a short distance to the South. To the East travel with the steep Flåm railway where the line goes in stores below each other. The nearest glacier Nigardsbreen can be reached from the house two hours away North-East. When driving west you will first pass the small town Voss, famous for extreme sport, and after two hours the city of Bergen, with the fish market and Unesco site Bryggen.

Notes:
Most of the building is the original from two hundred years back with a homely atmosphere, where the old unpainted logs are shown in the big sitting room. A grand piano can be hired by musicians. New windows in the old style. 'The house has soul', one of our guests uttered. Still it is easy to live in, as all rooms are on one stock. The kitchen and dinner room are modern and practical, kept in a their natural wooden colour.
