The Farguettes Estate is located in the heart of the Périgord Noir, the richest region of the Dordogne where all the prehistoric sites, medieval castles, the most beautiful fortified towns (e.g. Monpazier), the most famous abbeys (e.g. Cadouin), and the pilgrimage route of the Way of Saint James are located. You will easily find the estate to the south-west of Sarlat, to the south of Périgueux, and to the east of Bergerac. These three towns form the Golden Triangle of Dordogne.
The Farguettes Estate is a place with a 300-degree panorama that resembles a painting from the Renaissance era. The endless blue of the skyline evokes images of Baudelaire's 'Balcons du ciel' ('Sky Balconies').
No neighbours nearby, no visual or noise disturbance.
A dirt road first crosses a forest of chestnut trees, and then opens onto a Tuscan landscape with hilly meadows planted with cypresses, lime trees, and plane trees.
The Farguettes Estate was constructed in 1664 by builders who signed the date on their work with a simple stone star. The homes owe their charm both to the know-how of those who built them and to the quality of the materials used. Inside, the restoration and decoration show a definite taste for authenticity: it is more a single item or piece of furniture -- as opposed to many mediocre decorations -- that makes the interior stand out. The pottery made by Francoise de Torrenté will subtly be noticed each day, and the books and CDs in the living room/library will make it stand out.

Author-director by the name of Claude Cyriaque:
'Les cuisines du château' ('The Kitchens of the Castle'): role of the Queen played by Maria Casares
'Problems concerning society, order, and power clash in this play. But the play deals with them in its own way, which is not dialectical nor ideological, but poetic, as a visionary of the fantastic. And again we have the presence of Bunuel and Goya in a giant mockery, even a mask of humility, one could say.'
(Review by Renée Saurel in 'Les Lettres Françaises')
Discussing Cid de Corneille, directed by Gérard Desarthe, and the role of the King played by Claude Cyriaque:
'...A standout from the others, Claude Cyriaque, who gave a magnificent interpretation of Goethe’s Faust in a play directed by Gabriel Monnet, takes on the role of the King this time. In one night, he manages to capture the essence of several Von Stroheim films as well as Coppola's ‘Le Parrain.’ He is amazing...' (Review by Michel Cournot in 'Le Monde')
Discussing his portrayal of Harcamone in Jean Genet's 'Le Miracle de la rose,' performed at the Théâtre du Rond-Point:
'... Listening to Cyriaque, so true, so humble, and so strong in his portrayal, one could not help but consider the journey of the actor, who imposed himself with such strength and rigour. In his interpretation of this remarkable work, Cyriaque places the emphasis on power and utter despair, which makes for a deeply moving hour of drama.
(Review by Armelle Héliot in 'Le Figaro')
Claude Gazel purchased this chateau / country house in 1995
After directing and playing in a number of plays at the Théâtre Paris and throughout the province, we decided to live in Dordogne to devote ourselves to writing. At the same time, we have filled the Farguette Estate with life. Since moving here, we have welcomed artists and performers from around the world, as well as students, families, and friends. Over time, they have become loyal and kind tenants who we are happy to have back year after year.
The Farguettes Estate has a 300-degree panorama that resembles a painting from the Renaissance era. The endless blue of the skyline evokes the irresistible images of Baudelaire's 'Balcons du ciel' ('Sky Balconies').
A path first crosses a forest with chestnut trees, and then opens up onto a Tuscan landscape. Farguettes Estate, its barn house, dovecote, and pool are situated in the centre of a 15-hectare park, high up, facing Dordogne.
The Farguettes Estate was constructed in 1664 by builders who signed the date on their work with a simple stone star.
The homes owe their charm to the know-how of those who built them and to the quality of the materials used.
