|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
In the heart of the countryside this beautiful renovated cottage is ideal for those of us who just want to spend time chilling out. We are situated a few minutes drive over a country track, yet close to a good surfaced road. The Cottage can sleep 4 people as it has 2 Double Bedrooms both with en-suite shower rooms. The surrounding area has an abundance of wild flowers in the cooler months and also has Carob, Almond, Olive and Fig trees. The Cottage is of typical Andalucian style and has been furnished to a high standard. We are off the beaten track so this is why it has all the benefits of peace and quite, privacy and the setting is so peaceful this is a real countryside experience. Both bedrooms have mobile air conditioning units for summer. If you are interested in Bird Watching as the area around our cottage is a great place to spend time watching the different types of birds flying about and even building their nests in the porch. Have a look at this webpage www.birdwatching-malaga.com for some ideas of what you can find in the Malaga region. Please note the cottage does not have a pool but guests are very welcome to use the owners pool during their stay which is only a couple of minutes walk away. Please see the photograph of the owners pool area in the photo's section.
Both my Husband and I are from South Wales, we decided to move to Spain in 2005 after finding our beautiful peaceful little piece of heaven. We find the way of life here is so laid back and peaceful who would not want to move here. We have been here for nearly 10 years now it has been an experience getting the cottage renovated and our own home built, it hasn't been an easy journey but we have no regrets. There is no hustle and bustle, get up when you want, go to bed when you want, relax by the pool all day with a glass or 2 of vino, it is really our chill out place and we decided to put our cottage out for summer lets so others could come and enjoy and experience what we have, and hopefully you will like what you see.
Chrystine Macphail purchased this cottage in 2004
We visited the area of Almogia for the 1st time in 2004, we had never been to mainland Spain before. We fell in love with the area around our cottage and house which are both set in a small valley surrounded by wildlife, Almond, Olive, Carob and Fig trees. Whilst looking at the area we spotted both properties which were once ruins and walked through wild lavender and many other beautiful flowers and wild herbs, the scent was unforgettable. We spent the 1st year renovating the cottage and building our own house. It is peaceful here green and lush in the Autumn, Winter and Spring months and to sit watching all the different species of birds fly about, see the fox who lives on the mountain opposite us, watch the wild boar roam and for the last few years we have seen a family of Mouflon pass our home, it is a joy to watch. We are secluded yet only a few mins drive from a good surface road and only 5 km from Almogia. We have found our little paradise here and want to share the experience with others. We are so pleased to have found it.
We are situated in a small valley and have a river that runs around the cottage during the winter months if we are lucky enough to get rain, our man house is on top of a mountain and we have a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains and sometimes see the local goat herder climb up the mountains in front of us. We see eagles fly over regularly in summer but we do have a solo eagle who lives in a tree that will grace us with his presence, who would not love to be in a place like this. We have hammocks everywhere so we can chill during the afternoon or enjoy a glass of local vino whilst watching the sun go down. HEAVEN.
Hey Christine and Dave, I think I have already written some friendly sentences about your house and our week in Almogia on the Homeaway-Page. But maybe I did something wrong. I will try again and be sure: We liked you (Dave) and your dogs and the region very much. I think we will come again one day – a little bit later in the year, so that we could use the pool and the weather would be better. Thank you once again for all your efforts and a good season!
Best wishes and greetings, Anja, Franz and Johannes
The listing description was accurate in terms of location and facilities. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. The owner Dave was very friendly and helpful. He tried his best not to let his seven dogs disturb us. If you wanna get away from everything, if you fancy peace and quiet in the mountain and if you love dogs then look no further! Dave has lived there for a long time thus he knows where are places to go and where has good food to try. For example, the local BBQ in the nearby village Almogia recommended by Dave was AMAZING!!! It' am unforgettable must-eat!! x
I had a wonderful stay at the Casa Galesa Cottage not far from Malaga, the beautiful cottage had amazing views which would take your breathe away. Great get away for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday away from busy towns. It had a great little fire that kept the cottage warm in the evening and throughout the night.
I had a great stay and the dogs where very welcoming, great experience.
We had a very pleasant stay at the cottage together with our baby. The cottage was clean and complete. Dave gave us good information about the wonderful surrounding. We liked Almogia and Malaga, the beach side and we also enjoyed El Torcal very much!
What a lovely welcome from Dave and the dogs who soon got used to their latest visitors. A comfortable place to sleep, well equipped cooking facilities and a peaceful place to stay with easy access to both the coast and wonderful walking areas. A real treat to sit and watch/listen to the birds all around us. Fantastic views of the night sky, with even the sighting of an eagle owl. Hope everyone else enjoys their time here like we did. Thanks Dave.
PS one thing you might want to review: the Facilities listing on the website led us to believe that the cottage had a TV – it did – but really it was a DVD player monitor as there was no TV service
We had a good contact over the Phone about where to meet. Dave took us to his home.We followed him in our car. When we left the main road we thought where does this lead to? But when we arrived at the gate after a couple of minutes we were welcomed by the dogs. We drove through the gate and saw a lovely cottage, nice and quiet, surrounded by hills. At the top Dave and Chrystine live. So we had our privacy.
We could use the swimmingpool at their place. It was a big one. The beds were nice not too hard, not too soft. There were two good showers (each bedroom had a bathroom). we could cook our meals and we made lovely trips to Almogia, Malaga, Marbella, El Torcal. and we enjoyed the lakes and the surroundings very much.
Dave came down every morning to ask if everything was allright and gave us some tips for the day. Where to eat, where to go, what the weather was going to be like. All in all a very pleasant stay.
The house is very complete and cosy. The surrounding is great. Nature is beautiful and the owners very friendly, helpfull and make you feel really welcome. De dogs became friends of our daughters and they loved them. The pool is very nice to cool off when you come home from a nice daytrip. It was a really relaxed placed where you can find your rest.
Almogía's history stretches back to the remote past. Prehistoric cave paintings have been found within the municipality and remains from a Roman presence have also been uncovered in several locations. However, it was not until the Muslim era that the centre of the modern settlement was built around a castle, known locally today as the 'Torre de la Vela', of which very little remains.
In the Muslim period the Moors gave it the name Al-Mexia, which is believed either to derive from a Berber clan known as Al-Mexias or to have meant beautiful. We can send you directions and a map by e.mail, alternatively we can meet you at the airport and bring you here for a cost of 50 euros return journey to cover the cost of our fuel. Why not spend some of your time exploring the unforgettable sites in the Andalucian countryside. If you are a bird lover we have a myriad of wild birds that fly around the area, the Hoopooe, Golden Oriole, Bee-Eater and Red Rump Swallow to name but a few, there are plenty of areas to Photograph, Paint or just simply to walk around and take in some fabulous mountain views. Our Lake Casasola is now full again and many of the local people picnic here over the weekend, a few mins walk from the Cottage. There are also some interesting places to visit not to far from Casa Galesa. The Pink Flamingo Lagoon, Laguna de Fuenta de Piedra natural reserve is the largest natural lake in the Iberian peninsula offering a natural habitat to a whole host of birds, wildlife and water life there is also a Donkey sanctuary nearby where you can meet rescued donkeys and also adopt one.. The actual lake is 6.5 km long and the when the water level is at the highest it can cover an average of 15 km surface area. This lake is very well known for the large flamingo population, second largest colony in Europe. Drawn to this inland region as the lake has a high salt content and shallow for wading and feeding. The birds are protected and the region is monitored with an Eco system in place. To maintain the population of the flamingos artificial islands have been created over the years in the lake which assists the flamingos natural breeding and reproduction process. A visitors center has also been built with information and routes around the lakes for viewing areas mostly populated with the flamingos. Altogether over 170 different species of birds have been recorded in the area including bee-eaters, crested larks, yellow wagtails, stone curlews, great grey shrikes and Hoopoes The Wolf Park, The El Torcal Mountains, The El Chorro Gorge and Man Made Lakes, The Beautiful Moorish Town of Antequera, Cordoba, The Alhambra Palace in Granada, Ronda and of course the Historical City of Malaga. Take a trip in a cable car to the top of the mountain in front of Benalmadena and take in the awesome sight, you can see for miles, don't forget to bring your camera and plenty of sunscreen with you. There are lots of things to do during your stay here, or you can just chill out with a cool drink in your hand whilst swinging in a Hammock. WE ARE ONLY 25 MINUTES DRIVE FROM THE Costa Del Sol.
