Very peaceful Mas Pujol del Mitg offers charming rustic accommodation with all modern conveniences in self contained “gite” with its own private entrance and outdoor space. Over the last number of years the Mas has been carefully restored to retain the original features (where possible) of exposed stone walls and wooden ceilings. The Mas is situated on the banks of the Terme river for fishing and bathing and in the middle of nature surrounded by a forest of oak and chestnut nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The immediate area is called the Vallespir Valley which is known as the “green lungs”of the Pyrenees Oriental offering spectacular mountain scenery, small pretty towns all steeped in Catalan culture and food.

very rural, on river bank, clean, no passing traffic, relaxing
We stayed in early June 2018 during the coldest wettest spring in 50 years according to many locals. We had several wet days but this did not affect our great time at this location. The Gite is set over 3 floors with open plan lounge/kitchen and seperate shower room on ground floor. bedroom with 1 double and one single and separate lounge space on first floor and finally biggest king size bedroom and additional shower room on top floor. The gite is very clean the beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped including a dishwasher(we didn't use it). The homemade jam left out for us was great.
At night you hear the river rushing by through the open bedroom windows.
The tarmac road from Amelie ends at the gite and a dirt track continues on upwards for 17km to St Laurent Des Cerdans. The one negative about this property is the 6 miles or so from Amelie Le Bains which is very narrow and has lots of blind bends and various passing places should you meet another vehicle coming the other way. This is ok if you're a competent driver but if you can't reverse a car down a narrow road then it could be a problem.
The walking from the gite is wonderful as long as you don't mind hills and rugged terrain. Walking boots are best and walking poles make life much easier. That said you don't need to be a mountaineer and could do it in trainers if you wanted. Th GR10 passes within about 400m of the property along with several smaller paths that will take you to the France/Spain border high up the hills(about 400 vertical metres and 4km of path from the gite). Views up the top are fantastic and there's an interesting story on a pole near the top of "Coll De la Dona Morte" about a mysterious death many years ago. The now derilect house mentioned in the tale is about 45mins walk along the dirt track.
Babette and John the gite owners are lovely friendly people who are only too pleased to help with anything you might need. Their old dog Caramel is also lovely and friendly but they'll keep him away if you're not keen on dogs. There's a hippy type who lives on a smallholding type place up in the hills and sometimes you pass in his van on the track or on the footpaths in the hills but he's also very friendly and sometimes you might pass his horses grazing along the track.
We'd love to return for the walking and the peace and quiet.
Thanks for the great review Patrick. We are delighted you and Gabby had a good holiday despite the exceptional bad weather. You still managed to enjoy all our tracks up the hills to get to the beautiful views and drive our little road to get to our peaceful corner. You will both be welcome to return anytime. Kind Regards. Babette & John.
After Amélile les Bains take first left to Montalba Mas Pagris. We are 4 kms after Mas Pagris.

Spain is also very close by and in a day you can easily visit Figueres with the eccentric Dali Museum and then on to Cadaques/Portlligat to visit Dali’s home which is now also a museum and then stroll the small streets of one the best preserved villages on the Costa Brava.
Just further down the coast at Sant Mardi (just beside L’Escala) you can visit the excavated Greek/Roman port town of Empuries with a very fine museum displaying the artefacts and history of the town. When you are exhausted by all that culture you relax on a fine golden sand beach just beside the excavations or lunch in the pleasant village of Sant Marti.
