Come enjoy 'Little Norway' and the Nordic charm of Viking House! Built in 1890, this house has been welcoming people to 'Paulsbo' for 125 years. Old but New! The house boasts an all new kitchen, sparkling new bathrooms, in fact, nearly new everything! Yet all with an eye for keeping the historical and Nordic charm of the original structure and its builders. Relaxing water views, comfortable surroundings, 4 bedrooms (one on main floor, 3 on second floor) to accommodate eight guests, a fully appointed kitchen for cooking and entertaining, dining seating for 14, rocking chairs on the porch as the sun sets behind the Olympic Mountains, and comfy terry robes all await you inside this charming space.

The Viking House is a restful place for those visiting Martha and Mary residents, or looking for a gentle place for family visiting. Viking House offers affordable accommodations for both a couple enjoying a weekend in our charming town, as well as larger families and groups, including quilters and book clubs looking for the perfect retreat locale.

This structure is not just another 'nice vacation home in a nice place' -- Viking House is a TRULY unique home in the Poulsbo community that has stood watch over 'little Norway' for over twelve decades of American history, growth and changing times. It is a proud and simple house, where you are quick to get comfortable and settle in for whatever adventure has brought you to the charming town of Poulsbo. From this special old house, guests can gaze out at what Poulsbo's original Scandinavian founders fondly saw as their 'home away from home.'

The Viking House is confirmed to be the second oldest of the very few, still standing original homes in 'Paulsbo,' as it was known at the time of it's construction. This unique home was solidly built in 1890 of old growth Northwest timber by the hands and hammers of hardworking Norwegian farmers who came West from Minnesota. The house sits up high and proud on a knoll at the North end of Front Street, like a sentinel welcoming all who enter the charming historic district of Poulsbo. Originally built long before electricity or indoor plumbing, and many years overdue for a remodel, the Viking House was completely updated and renewed from top to bottom in a year-long extensive renovation that was watched with excitement by the Poulsbo Historic Society and the entire Poulsbo community.

This unique historic home wants to be appreciated. Ask your host how Viking House can become your special destination in Poulsbo!

About Mary Fitz

Steve is a recently retired commercial highline fisherman, raised in an antique home next to the Chatham lighthouse in Cape Cod, MA. Mary is a writer and designer whose family roots are in Seattle and in the San Francisco Bay Area. Together, they discovered Poulsbo - and found it to be the most uniquely 'salty' and charming Northwest community to suit their shared love of the Pacific Northwest, it's beauty, history, and its hardworking settlers like the very people who built and lived in the Viking House. Steve and Mary make their home in Poulsbo and are close by to make every aspect of your stay pleasant and comfortable.

Why Mary Fitz chose Poulsbo

Location and Charm! Guests will appreciate the historic charm of this old home as they also enjoy the modern comforts of its newly updated amenities. In a time of growth and change, historic old homes are an increasingly important feature of American communities and deserved to be 'rescued,' renewed and appreciated!

What makes this farmhouse unique

Location! Location! Location! Just a 3 block walk down Front Street takes you to all the shops and restaurants of historic Poulsbo. Or walk to the movies at Viking Junction. Or simply relax and unplug within the solid feel of this unique old house. This is a vintage home, built in a simpler time. This house originally had no electricity or indoor plumbing, so lights and bathroom/s had to be added as they could be 'fit in' over the decades. Your hosts have worked hard to maintain the original charm of this 19th century antique home, while updating it to offer the modern comforts expected by guests today.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had the best time this weekend at Viking House, enjoying your beautiful home, and all the treats on the kitchen counter and in the refrigerator. We walked into town five or six times and ate way too much pastry and pasta. It felt so good, and so relaxing! Thanks for sharing your home with us, and making our anniversary and my birthday so special. Have a great day.

Viking House

  • 5 of 5

I rented the Viking House for my family to stay at when they came to Poulsbo for a wedding. I could not have asked for more. The home was very clean and inviting. Mary had coffee and snacks for them which was a nice touch of hospitality. I would recommend this home for a stay. Thank you Mary! My family had a great time.

We loved this home! The location was great. The home was impeccable and perfectly decorated. Mary was so kind and left toys for our young children to enjoy. We walked into the quaint town of Poulsbo each day and enjoyed the nearby parks, restaurants, walking trails. We would highly recommend this charming home!

Excellent Property, Loved the Coffee and Snacks

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay at the Viking House in Poulsbo. It was our first time in the area and the house was perfectly located for walks to downtown and drives to Bainbridge Island parks and ferry. The house is in excellent shape and the wine and coffee left for guests was very much appreciated. I would recommend this house to any family group and I hope to return in the near future.
