The kitchen is fully stocked with all your cooking needs.
My husband and I (married 29 years) and our 2 daughters have always enjoyed the outdoors. We have always dreamed of owning a cabin where we could enjoy our family and our horses. We are both native Tennesseans and put down roots in Middle TN to raise our kids. My passion is equine rescue, and I spend most of my spare time trying to make a difference and educate people on animal welfare. We currently have several equine rescues, as well as several dogs n cats!
Brenda Lees purchased this cabin in 2012
Our familly spent the last several years going to several different destinations to hit the trails. In 2010 we decided to stay in the GRITS cabin and explore the Big South area. We found ourselves going back to this area, and when the cabin went up for sale, we made the decision we had to have this piece of paradise!
GRITS (Girls Raised in the South), is such a great location to enjoy the BSF. Ride from the barn right onto the trailhead, and miles of trails. We love sitting in the hot tub, and love building a fire when the season turns cool. Sitting on the screened in porch and listening to the bullfrogs and the crickets makes the work week a memory.
My little group and I came up for our visit in December. We arrived to find the cabin very clean and well-provisioned. There was firewood immediately available, the place was toasty... and the hot tub was very clean and ready to go! The beds were super comfortable, and there were plenty of extra blankets & such. The kitchen had plenty of space and everything we needed. Internet was pretty fast compared to past cabins we've been to. The TV's worked great (although we did bring a Chromecast, primarily for music streaming). The TV on the deck was also a very nice touch. They had both a smoker down on the patio, and a and new gas grill on the front porch, which was very useful for all the grilling we did. The hosts were outstanding at making the place feel very cozy and welcoming. It was very nicely decorated for the holidays, and there were plenty of great reference/guides to assist us in planning out our hiking, riding, and kayaking. It was an awesome trip! Beautiful countryside! Also loved that we were far enough away from the nearest neighbors so as not to worry about disturbing them, and vice versa.
Thank you so much to the hosts!!! Hope we get to experience this place again sometime!!!
We enjoyed our annual cabin trip at GRITS this year. We loved the big decks and porches, the outdoor fireplace, and the lowered hot tub on the screened back porch! Plenty of parking and secluded from other cabins in the area so we could be outside without worrying about bothering any neighbors. Close to amazing hiking in Big South Fork. 3 bedrooms, plus two twins in the loft. Bunkhouse in the stable adds two twins, but no bathroom. A little tight for 12 adults if you have more than 3 couples. The most welcoming experience I've had yet from a cabin, including a nice card and bottle of wine. Our stay deserved nothing less than 5 stars, I'd recommend GRITS to friends.
My friends and I stayed here for a guys weekend getaway. There were 8 of us that stayed in this cabin for 2 nights to do some 4-Wheeler riding down at Brimstone ATV Park. This house could not have been any better suited for my group of guys. The location made it perfect for a group of guys that like to get a little loud at night while out by the grill and outdoor fireplace. That was one of the requirements when I was looking for a cabin to rent. I did not want anyone very close because I know how some of my friends get (a little to load for close neighbors). This cabin was better than I expected it to be. None of my friends could stop talking about how they would love to live there forever. The driveway was large enough to accommodate our large trucks and trailers that we had all of the 4-Wheeler's on. The water hose by the stables made it easy to clean up a little when we got back from the trails. This was the first time I had ever used VRBO but I had heard good things from people that had used it in the past. I could not have been more pleased with my experience in booking this cabin and the Owner staying in contact with me. Brenda is very responsive to any question you have and she even help us located a reputable ATV Park to ride in. Several of my friends and I travel for business all of the world. So I had my concerns when I was booking this house. I’ve stayed in some very shady places around the world. I did not what this to be one of them. I can tell you now I would not hesitate to stay here. It was very clean and the beds are very comfortable. If I can every make it back to this area, I will definitely be staying here again.
Our family of six (Dad,Mom, married daughter and son-in-law and two college aged kids) spent four days in the Grits cabin- Dec. 26-30, 2015. The cabin has absolutely everything you could possibly need or want! And it is beautifully decorated! Our ONLY issue was the unseasonably warm weather- several days in the 70's. While a little air conditioning was needed in the upstairs master and loft, it made the basement bedroom pretty chilly. The 3rd night we figured out a compromise and all was well. Our decision for a Tennessee cabin came down to the Grits and another cabin a little closer to Gatlinburg. Although the other cabin looked a little nicer, we opted for the Grits! So glad we did as it was gorgeous and perfect! Don't think twice about booking it yourself!
I was skeptical of the description "Luxury Cabin", but it certainly applies to GRITS. The owner, Brenda, responded quickly to my questions, and since this was my first experience with VRBO, I had many! The cabin is beautiful, and had everything we needed for our 4th of July stay. The 3 levels with full baths was a huge benefit. Although it rained off and on for most of our stay, we were able to have a fire in the outdoor fireplace. We ate our meals and played games on the screened porch which was delightful. We had 2 dogs with us, and they thoroughly enjoyed our (muddy) hikes! (The hose by the stables made it easy to wash them). We used the local outfitter and had a tubing excursion down the Big South Fork River. I would definitely recommend GRITS, and would definitely like to return!
GRITS is absolutely beautiful! The cabin is clean and stocked with anything you could possibly need. The owner is quick to respond by email to any questions, and is super kind. We have already inquired to stay again next year at GRITS. Thank you to Brenda, the owner, for sharing your amazing place with us! WE had a blast!
