I grew up in New England and came to Florida after completing my master's degree. I lived in this house for 26 years; I ran my consulting business out of the bonus room, and later rode my bicycle to my job less than a half mile away. I finally moved to Melbourne when I took a job at Harris Corporation.
Patricia Brown purchased this house in 1988
I love this old house and the neighborhood. Wood floors, awning windows, lovely light. There are sidewalks all through the neighborhood, so it's easy and safe to walk to the public library, or to the restaurants, cafes and galleries in the Downtown. But to tell the truth, it was the breeze that always cools the outdoor room and the old crape myrtle that convinced me to buy the house.
I guess it's the light in this house that is especially lovely. And it is centrally located. Make a short drive to the beach or shopping, walk to church, bike to the park, take the bus that passes nearby. Vero Beach offers such a variety of attractions. In addition to its many natural resources, it has a number of excellent cultural offerings, including the Vero Beach Museum, the Riverside Theater, and the Atlantic Classical Orchestra. These and many more are nearby.
I should add that we liked this location because it's right next-door to that beautiful Vero Beach public library which has a wonderful collection of books, yoga classes biweekly and other classes to numerous to mention.
We also like this location because it's a nice area for walking, near the downtown. It should be noted that there are numerous fine restaurants within walking distance, not to mentioned the community center which has tennis courts and pickle ball courts and line dancing , so yes there is much more in Vero Beach and near this fine rental home too numerous to mention such as a used book store where there are thousands of well sorted books of every type and a writers club that meets periodically .
Had a great stay Feb 2016, owner was always available and very helpful. This was 3rd Feb in Vero, and this was the best location.
8 mins to beaches, 2 min walking to restaurants, library and post office. Plenty of churches of different denominations in walking distance.
I would not hesitate the tell friends of this home.
We thoroughly enjoyed the month we spent in this house. It was very clean, bright, and our hostess provided us with everything we needed. We were very surprised at how quiet things were considering there were churches, the library, and many county buildings very close by. Also, being located on the edge of the historic district, we were within a half-hours walk/drive to most activities. And yes, there really is a breeze that cools the outdoor room.
home was very well kept and everything we needed was available for us. Our owner was very pleasant and willing to help us if needed. No complaints! Also close to the center of town and the beaches.
The house is in an excellent location for the beach, restaurants and shopping.
The owner was helpful ad friendly. The house was very clean.
If weather is not nice there isn't much to do.
Stayed here Jan -March of 2014. It was chilly by local standards that year in January but warmed up quickly to "normal" for the area. House is lovely lovely lovely. Landlord-ess was VERY responsive to all questions and concerns. I took my dog. Yard is fenced and a great size for a smaller dog or a well-behaved larger one which will respect the relatively low fence height. Think "picket fence". Neighborhood sidewalks and in particular a huge oak just a couple houses down made this a terrific place for dog walks. House is a terrific home base but you'll be out and about. This is a beautiful area.
Library down the block offers cards for $10. Wow. They have an impressive book collection.
There are many local eateries, try the "Patisserie" sandwiches & bakery. Artisan breads and amazing baked goods. (fyi, I tried to include a link to their webpage but that turned out to be "against the review guidelines.)
It took me waaaaay too long to try this place out as it is unassuming from the street. Fresh bread all week just a short walk away.
Also there's "Tea and Chi" just two blocks from the house. I went there frequently. Kindof a hole in the wall but proprietors were very nice and tea and scones were excellent.
Area also offers the Vero Beach Museum with it's amazing selection of art classes. I took three while I was there. Be warned tho' that you need to sign up EARLY to get in. These things are popular. By early, I mean months in advance. I signed up in late October classes that began in January and several I was interested in were already full. Art instructors are top notch.
Vero Beach is a small town with big cultural and recreational opportunities.
Cultural: Vero Beach Art Museum with exhibits, classes, and lectures. The Atlantic Classical Orchestra, with both symphony orchestra
and chamber music series. Art Under the Oaks Art Festival March 13-15, 2015.
Gardening: McKee Botanical Garden. Indian River Garden Fest the last weekend of January 2015.
Beaches: Many beaches on the ocean and the Indian River Lagoon. Sun, surf and sand.
Fishing: Both salt and fresh water fishing, ocean, Indian River Lagoon, Blue Cypress Lake, and the Stick Marsh.
Restaurants and Cafes: Vero Beach and vicinity offer a restaurants for a wide variety of tastes and prices. You can walk to several from the house, including La Patisserie and Tea and Chi. The Osceola Bistro has both indoor and outdoor seating, and it's dog-friendly! Some of my favorites are Kata, 14th Avenue Steakhouse, Melody Inn, Bijou, and Bacci Trattoria. A little further afield, I enjoy the unique atmosphere and ocean view of the Ocean Grill for a special dinner out. For a casual beach breakfast or lunch, I like the Seaside Grill, on the boardwalk in Jaycee Park. Try Marsh Landing for wonderful Florida and southern food (frog legs, swamp cabbage) and a glimpse of the history and agriculture of Indian River County in Fellsmere.
