About Jonathan Willick

My wife and our family are Canadians living in San Diego and we bought this little place to have somewhere to go with the family to get away from the city and experience a bit of winter fun like skiing and sledding. We love heading up to Big Bear whenever we have a free weekend, its a great place to visit year round and has a lot of beautiful scenery and things to do.

Why Jonathan Willick chose Moonridge

Quiet cozy place up the mountain, great location for a quiet stay in the woods away from it all. Also walkable to Bear Mountain ski resort for skiing/snowboarding or mountain biking. Great place to relax year round.

What makes this cabin unique

The place is an easy walk to Bear Mountain for anyone wanting to ski, you can go back and forth or go home for lunch and it is convenient with small children. There is also a lot of mountain biking in the area during the summer months. The deck has a great view of the trees and is a relaxing place to kick back and relax.

Cozy cabin , clean , convenient , charming

  • 5 of 5

I love this cabin, it was lovely , clean , rustic and comfortable . Conveniently located close to snow summit. I do not understand the other reviews short of 5 stars . For the price you pay and given this is in big bear , this is truly nice . I have high standards , I am high maintenance —we frequently stay in 5 star resorts like Terranea and Bacara this cabin given the price have met even my high standards. Clean , cozy , charming , convenient , comfortable .

You get what you pay for

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The biggest complaints I have is the outlet in the only bathroom doesn't work and the furniture in the house is very uncomfortable, my husband and I had a really hard time getting good sleep and sitting on the south trying to unwind after a day of exploring was pretty hard. The cabin is close to everything which is really awesome and the neighborhood itself is fairly quiet. We probably wouldn't stay in this cabin again.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry about your stay and thank you for the feedback. I will definitely have someone take a look at that outlet. We actually just brought in the sofa bed in the living room and I am a little surprised you found it uncomfortable, its from Ikea and fairly new, my wife and I usually find their furniture to be pretty comfortable and we haven't had any other complaints but I will see what I can do, maybe some softer cushions or more pillows would help. Also the bed mattresses are from Ikea as well, they may not be super squishy but my wife and I prefer a slightly firmer mattress, I can see if I can get something a little softer. thanks Jonathan

Jon's place was great, super cozy and perfect if you're coming up to ski. We walked to the lifts and back for lunch. I'd come back!

Cozy Cabin - Great Location

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin for 2 days. We encountered 2 big issues, the driveway and the heating system. The driveway was full of snow and inconviniente, we had to shovel a space on top of the hill for parking, Jonathan did address this issue having someone sweep off the snow the next day. The heating system was not working when we got there, it needed a valve replacement. Jonathan managed to get someone and the issue was resolved in a couple of hours. Overall, amazing response from the owner. Tiny but super cozy cabin, met all our needs. The location is perfect, super close to Bear Mountain. I definitly recommend the owner, outstanding responsivness and very helpful.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review we always appreciate the feedback. Apologies for the driveway, it had just freshly snowed and it usually takes a little while before the snowplow company can come by so we keep a shovel there so guests can clear a little space a the top to park in the meantime. Unfortunately we had a part go out on the furnace right when you were there, the unit is a high efficiency model and only a few years old so I am a little surprised but sometimes these things happen. I had a hard time finding someone who could come by at night on such short notice but fortunately after many calls and a couple hundred dollars later (plus the discount I gave) we managed to get someone who fixed it or I would have paid to put you up somewhere else. Fortunately it all worked out and we'd love to have you again and I am sure we'll have better luck.

Very Cozy Cabin - Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful New Year's weekend even without snow on the ground. The cabin is cozy and comfortable and has most things you will need for your stay.

Though a smaller cabin, you don't feel like it. We stayed with our adult son and Labrador and it was perfect. Could easily be comfortable for 4 adults or a small family.

The fireplace is wonderful. Large and efficient. Be sure to bring some firewood or fire logs in case there is none. It has a beautiful deck too. Newer HD TV with DirecTV. If you are into sports on ESPN or want to watch movies just bring a Chromecast to use with your phone or an HDMI cable to hook up to a laptop and you'll be set because they do have WiFi.

They are very close to Bear Mountain. A two block walk. So if you walk there you can either ski at Bear or take the shuttle to Summit. Unless you want to go out you really don't have to drive once here. A nice area to take your dog for a walk too.

Only thing to take note of in winter is the drive is at a down slope. So if it has snowed a lot of snow is expected during your stay and you don't have 4WD make sure you absolutely have chains. You should always have them anyway when coming to Big Bear in the winter so you don't get stuck and then hold up anyone behind you. There is a space at the top of the drive where you could park, but being able to use drive and beer right at the door for losing and unloading is ideal because it really is right there.

The owners are also very responsive. So if you have any questions they are quick to respond.

Great cabin. Would recommend this cozy cabin home.
