Relva da Moura is the perfect place to stay if you like our family like total privacy in beautiful surroundings.
The house in itself has everything you need, but the real treasure of Relva da Moura is the nature surrounding it. The views over the mountains and above the river is incredible, and the enormous garden with fig trees, wild nature and flowers is just lovely. We absolutely loved our stay here and would really like to come back.
Finally a thanks to Richard and Barbara for good communication and directions before our arrival, and to Bruno, the manager, for being the most kind and helpful guy during our stay.
The cottage is surrounded by nature, next to small mountain stream. Its very private: no visible neighbors and far from any bigger road. There is a big garden on the property, and 3 houses with a shared pool, during our stay there were no other guests so we had it all to ourselves. The pool is quite small, works well for children under 10 years old. It was awesome that the water was directly from the river, no chlorine added.
While the kitchen is set with many supplies, such as spices, salt, sugar, teas etc. but it's missing some things we've grown used to. Most noticeable thing missing was a dish washer, also a good electric kettle would be good to have.
The wifi signal was quite strong, good enough to stream a movie with at least medium quality.
The more remote house (were we stayed) is some 50 meters or so away from the road, and is only connected by winding gravel path A wheelbarrow was provided to move our luggage.
The property manager Bruno was truly wonderful guy. He is very knowledgeable, seemingly about everything from best places to visit to local biology, geology, and history. He is very willing to share the information, and for people like us, who like to explore everything by ourselves, this was great. He saved us lot of time searching through the guides to find just the right things. He speaks excellent English that makes communication that much more enjoyable.
Fabulous place to stay
We loved the house, garden, views, peace and wildlife. The area is perfect for walking with well marked ancient trails. Bruno was extremely helpful and friendly, telling us places we could visit and local amenities. Also always available in case we needed any help. The house itself was very comfortable, the bathroom having the best shower in the world! Also lots of basic supplies in the kitchen including hebs and spices making things simple for self caterers.
Glad you enjoyed your visit.
wild and private
Lovely wild spot of boulders, broom and cork oaks, overlooking tumbling stream below. Choice of sunny patio or shady garden, with assured privacy. House is well equipped and comfortable, and Bruno is v helpful and has excellent English.
Our main interest was birds, which due to the terrain/vegetation are heard more than seen, including Golden Oriole, Bee-eaters, Hoopoe and Nightingale (all night in April!), plus almost daily Booted Eagle cruising overhead. Cross the nearby Spanish border for supreme raptor country (Griffon, Black and Egyptian vultures, Eagles etc).
Glad you enjoyed your stay here! We didn't know about all the birds.

Nearby villages not too far away if you want to eat outor just enjoy local culture. House well equipped for own cooking. Very nice and helpful housekeeper Bruno who speaks very good english.

My family, including two small children and their grandmother, had a fantastic time at this country house. The Alentejo countryside surrounding the cottage is stunning. Their are many beautiful walks to take from the house and interesting towns and sites to drive to nearby. If you are looking for an peaceful vacation where you can relax all day at home and also do some site seeing I highly recommend this place.
We agree! It is an extraordinary location.
