The Root River Biking Trailheads are located only 7 miles away at Lanesboro, or only 5 miles away at Fountain.
Our wonderful rustic Cabin, is right next to Trout Run, a fabulous Brown Trout fishery, with lots of public access.
This large open room layout, will accommodate your family for fishing, biking, hiking, and canoeing adventures. A large deck, makes it easy to have campfires, and enjoy the romantic sunsets. Extra tables are provided for getaway scrapbooking weekends. There is a full kitchen to create family meals and memories. This is a comfortable and cozy cabin, with many modern conveniences.
Last week the Owls were calling just after dark, and the Coyote's started singing around midnight.
This is my Grandparents farm, passed from them to my wonderful parents who in turn, allowed me to purchase it. This land is filled with great family memories.
If you want to get away and enjoy the simple pleasures of being out in a rural, pastoral setting, then this cabin is for you. The setting is simply picture perfect. The large picture window and huge deck overlook a beautiful meandering trout stream and cow pasture. We saw lots of wildlife including a bald eagle swooping down the capture a trout, deer, cows and lots of other birds.
While the house itself is very basic, it does have an updated bathroom, comfy bed, and all the necessary kitchen utensils, pans, etc. if you love to cook. The owner was very responsive to questions and provided detailed instructions and directions as to finding the rental.
There is also a small, scenic park with a dam nearby if you want a stroll. Chatfield is close by if you need to pick up groceries or supplies. We were making crafts there, and the owner has several extra tables which came in handy when we needed to spread out.
If you enjoy getting away from it all, this is a great place to unwind.
Had a great time this weekend at this cabin.
For travelers inquiring: The inside of cabin itself was not much to write home about, it was your basic rustic cabin. It was well kept enough for something of the sort (the furniture, bed, linens, refrigerator, shower, toilet sink and counter tops were all clean but it could use a good window clean and cobweb sweep.)
There was a bit of a musty smell to the cabin (like most cabins like this have from being closed up for a while) when we first got there but after we opened up the windows we didn't notice it anymore. The decor was busy. Advertising signs and other trinkets lined the entire ceiling and wall. There is also a wall in the front covered with all kinds of animal heads and skins...not sure if they were real or not, but to me it was a bit disturbing but I assume the hunting type would like it.
Inside the cabin is very stocked. Tons of pots and pans, cubs, silverware, plates, cups, toaster, coffee maker and much more. It really did have everything you could possibly need. We brought a lot we didn't need to.
While the inside is nothing to write home about, the outside is what really makes this place special. The house is on top of a hill looking over the property and has a huge deck that wraps around the side to the back. It overlooks the entire property and it's gorgeous. The outside pictures he has really doesn't do it justice. We spent all our waking hours at the property outside, woke up and had coffee and breakfast on the deck listening to the river and watching the cows graze and the occasional local fly fisher fishing in the river and then spent the night out by the fire stargazing (the stargazing does not disappoint on a clear night.) There was plenty of wood for burning, a variety of different outdoor seating and a bench a table great for meals. There were also an awesome tree swing on the property that my husband and I took full advantage of. The outdoor setting of this property is really what makes it. It was perfect.
Location is good. It is about 35 min from Winona, 25 min to Lanesboro and about 15-20 min to Whitewater State Park. We hit up all 3 and enjoyed Whitewater the most. Good hiking and great sites. Winona is also gorgeous and has some good eats. Lanseboro we just drove through, cute town. There are also a couple little towns closer if you need to run and get something but the drive was easy and scenic to all the above places.
Overall, we loved our stay. <3
My wife & I just finished our second trip to the cabin. We absolutely love this place!!! Sitting on the deck or by the fire pit, looking out over the pasture is just so relaxing. We had an up close view of a bald eagle on this trip, as it flew in & perched on one of the trees near the trout run. The cabin is comfy, and has everything you would need for a stay. We love coming here, and calling the place our own at least for a couple of days. What a great property!!!!!
What a beautiful, peaceful setting for a cabin! The deck overlooking the beautifully winding trout stream and the adjacent pastures is a great place to spend a beautiful summer day just reading and relaxing while watching the cattle graze and the occasional trout fisherman testing their skills. The cabin is well stocked and very clean but some might find it a bit "rustic" for what you are paying (we thought it was great...).
Beautiful views in a private and quiet setting. Extremely relaxing. The cabin itself was cute and clean, and the large decks were perfect for wiling away the afternoons. Plenty of shade, and saw a bunch of animals as well! Bald eagles, deer, and a fox.
Nice place but meant more for men/women of the hunting fishing type! My husband would have loved it. Has everything you need including a great view and fire pit. Clean. Very small kitchen with no counter space especially for us girls who like to cook. Nice deck and outdoor area.
The Root River Bike Trail is in Lanesboro, which is 7 miles away, or there is also a Root River Bike Trailhead in Fountain, 5 miles away.
No town lights, make for wonderful Star Gazing, with spectacular views on clear nights.
Our campfire ring in the front yard, always has good dry wood available, for roasting Marshmallows and hotdogs.
