Forest Sanctuary Cottage in the Heart of Wine Country and Close to Town!

Bedrooms 1
Space 1,000 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

Experience the peace and beauty of our 1 bedrm cottage just 15 min. from Eugene!

Imagine having the best of both worlds on your next Oregon outing…in the heart of Oregon’s wine country—so peaceful and away from it all, yet only fifteen minutes from Eugene--and so affordable! Our forest sanctuary cottage is nestled on 40 acres of woodlands and meadows, with over a dozen premiere wineries nearby, many of them only 10 to 15 minutes away!

Take a wine tour, check out Eugene’s shops and restaurants or spend the afternoon at Saturday Market, enjoy local hikes with expansive views or a gentle walk alongside the Willamette, take a drive to the Oregon coast (1.5 hour), or along the scenic McKenzie River (40 minutes), cheer the Ducks at a UO game, revel at the annual Oregon Country Fair (25 minutes), hear world-class concerts at Eugene’s Oregon Bach Festival (mid-June to mid-July) and Hult Performing Arts Center, or bicycle your way along rolling hills and pastures on the area’s most popular cycling route, Lorane Highway.

Or simply settle into the quiet beauty and comforts of your own personal sanctuary. Originally built for spiritual retreats, our forest sanctuary cottage has a unique round design that's very spacious with expansive windows, 15-foot ceilings, large circular skylight and lovely bamboo floors. It's beautifully decorated throughout and features a bedroom with king size bed, four double-size futons that convert to beds as needed; a well-equipped kitchenette with fridge, two-burner gas stove, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and electric kettle with complimentary coffee and tea; a living area with TV (local channels in HD), DVD and a Bose music system to plug-in your music player; full bathroom with shower; your own private deck overlooking the forest and two tree swings and a hammock to lounge in. Or even get a massage with local massage therapist, Jacob Camara for a special relaxing treat!

Outside you can explore nature trails throughout our 40 acres of forest and meadows. Watch deer and wild turkeys grazing right outside your window and say hello to the other abundant wildlife that roams the land.

Also we're kid and dog-friendly. A $25 fee applies for each dog. Sorry, no cats. Since we take extra care to clean up really well after guests with dogs, we've never had any issues with anyone with allergies.

Groups of 4 or more people have a minimum 2 night requirement.

We hope you’ll choose to stay with us on your next visit to Eugene and the Willamette Valley. Our goal is to do whatever we can to make your stay comfy, peaceful and truly renewing!

About Bruce Porter

Hello, I’m Bruce and this is my wife, Theresa. We’ve been blessed to live almost 10 years at this beautiful place and enjoy sharing it with family, friends and guests. I’m a semi-retired electrical and general contractor - now I mostly spend time with the upkeep of our 40 acre land and garden, etc. My wife, Theresa is a professional musician and music teacher - she plays clarinet with orchestras around the state and also plays piano, Celtic harp and Native American flute at local events and churches. We love living in Eugene area - especially out in the country, while also being close to the city of Eugene and everything it offers. We have also held retreats on our land and feel a great sense of purpose in making it a sanctuary for all who visit here.

Bruce Porter purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Bruce Porter chose Willamette Valley Oregon

We've always felt this land had a special feel and peacefulness because it's totally surrounded by nature. At the same time, we enjoy the advantages of being only minutes from the city. We purchased this land with the mission of making it a sanctuary not only for family and friends, but also for people seeking retreat and spiritual growth. We continue that mission by sharing it with our VRBO guests so they also can experience its peacefulness.

What makes this cottage unique

There are lots of lovely places to stay in the country, but few have our great combination of 40 acres of forest sanctuary, being right on the wine tour and close to town. Also, our round cottage has a unique feel and has been blessed by the serenity of many others who have been here on retreat. Most folks who stay here tell us that they can feel the work and intention we put into making this a healing and renewing place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Good place for relaxation, lovely to see deer and wild turkeys around, good location and very peaceful.

Bruce & Theresa were welcoming, but left us privacy.

Magical, Wonderful, Fantastic!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family arrived with the purpose of dropping our student off at UO (many tears were to be expected!). The Porters provided a clean, home-quality environment that my child enjoyed prior to moving into the dorm. The photos well represented the cottage but it was quite a bit more spacious than I anticipated. It was great to have a dual gas hot plate, so I could make a few home-cooked meals. There was more than enough space for my family and it was really nice to wake up to deer peering outside our windows and a friendly squirrel who became an additional member of the family!

Sleeping arrangements were great. Clean, cozy sheets, blankets and comforters were provided. We all slept very well and there was plenty of room. We also had plenty of towels provided for showers.

Our family wanted a quiet, beautiful place to relax, chill out and provide a home-type of base for the busy week that lay ahead for us. On that note, we didn't have a problem with minimal television channels. The cabin had some great speakers which we were able to hook up our phones and access our music. There was always WiFi available so we could use our laptops without any issue.

The University and Eugene were 15-20 minutes away. We enjoyed going to Saturday Market in town and bringing back all sorts of goodies to prepare along with all the errands that we had to run.

We definitely plan to return next year and are recommending this little treasure to our friends. Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. Porter! You provided a wonderful environment for some lasting, happy memories.

Beautiful space and place!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful experience we had in this charming cabin in the woods. Everything was immaculately clean and ready for our arrival. The cottage itself is much bigger than you would think looking online.

The surrounding woods and trails we hiked everyday and enjoyed the serenity and wildlife. There are markers too so you dont get lost. :)

We saw deer everyday too which was just so sweet. We easily cooked simple meals in the kitchenette and everything we needed to do it with was right there.

We will definitely come back again when taking our daughter to the U of O, its a short and beautiful 20 minutes drive from the school and a perfect getaway spot.

Thank you to everyone at Forest Sanctuary for a beautiful home away from home!

We really enjoyed ourselves while we stayed here. It was very quiet and peaceful. Everything was clean and we found everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Communication with the owners was very easy and clear. If you're looking for a place to get away from it all, this is the place for you.

Its a beautiful, peaceful retreat for the soul

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy we stayed here. We got lucky with beautiful weather, but that really wouldn't have mattered. The spiritual healing energy here is for real! I love the house, the shape, the vibes. Beautiful property. Nice hosts that give you great privacy. If you plan on cooking a lot, bring some kitchen essentials, like measuring cups, Sharp knife etc. But it has flatware, silverware, and pots and pans that were sufficient to us. Great directions.

We will be back, again, and again and again!

Thank you so much for this great place. It helped me truly relax, so I could return to normal life with a fresh outlook.

Most vacations, I am ready tp go home halfway through, but I didn't want to leave this place. Thanks so much! Cant wait to return!
