|Minimum Stay||30 nights|
My spacious peaceful backhouse with fireplace is overlooking a large garden with fruit trees and roses, a lovely country setting by the beach. Enjoy meals in the patio with barbecue, walk or cycle to the beach, a 10 minutes walk away. Treat yourself to seafood or go fishing at the Redondo Beach Pier. Shop for fresh produce at the farmers market, right by the beach (you might see some dolphins, and pelicans!). Grocery stores are half a mile away. Go hiking on the beach or along the hiking trails of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Riviera Village, a 15-minute walk away, will charm you with its array of boutiques, restaurants, a lovely area for an evening stroll.
This is a 30-day minimum stay only.
I am a newly retired French translator and former tour guide in the American West - if your stay is part of a larger visit to the American West, I'll be delighted to help you with your plans. I love traveling myself and go to France and Argentina regularly (ask me if you are planning a trip there!). I very much enjoy meeting helping visitors discover this area.
Marie-France Nusbaum purchased this bungalow in 1988
When we moved to California, we first drove the whole West Coast. I fell in love with the oleanders growing down the median along the highway from Santa Barbara on. We chose Redondo Beach because it had a bit of a small-town feel while being near the big city with all its amenities. Being at the foot the Palos Verdes Peninsula, its hikes, horseback riding, whale watching, etc. was a big part in our choice.
Here, you can enjoy the beach and yet relax in a green, peaceful setting, away from the crowds, taking your morning coffee on the patio. You barely need a car! But you can also go to Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, discover downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, go to Venice Beach, the Long Beach Aquarium, the Getty Center, visit the Queen Mary. All in a safe, quiet environment.
My wife and had a very nice stay at Marie-France's garden apartment, which is very near the beach, Trader Joes, and restaurants. Marie-France is a lovely host and very helpful. We can actually say we made a friend in her! Her apartment is open, with a view of her garden, and her kitchen is very well equipped, with everything we needed to cook full meals and lunches. We are able to do our laundry and all of the things an extended stay required. The photos are fairly accurate of this bright airy one bedroom apartment.
Over all we would recommend, and we will go back again! Thank you Marie-France!
Our stay at this vacation site was quite comfortable. Our host was friendly and accommodating. The rental had everything a renter would need, including laundry which is always a good bonus. The unit was roomy enough for three or four and the beds were comfortable. The garden area was beautiful and made a great additional space for relaxing or entertaining. This rental is near several shopping areas and a short drive to the beach.
This was our second time renting Marie-France's get-away/hide-away and, if circumstances allow, we would feel ourselves very lucky indeed to be able to spend every winter get-away-from-New England winters here. As I mentioned in last year's review, Marie-France is an exceptionally accommodating and thoughtful hostess. I cannot imagine you would not find absolutely everything you need for a wonderful, sun-filled, relaxing few weeks [and even longer if you are lucky!] chez M.-F. The kitchen is well-equipped, the bed very comfortable, the deck [this year with new lounge chairs] expansive to say the least, the garden refreshing [trees of many varieties - lemon, fig, passion fruit among others]. Every morning the birds, including those amazing hummingbirds, flitted among the trees. The location is very convenient to everything - shops, restaurants, beach; the location - although on a main street - is amazingly quiet with on-street parking always available. My husband was so satisfied with our luck in finding M.-F.'s rental that he said, "This is all we need." referring to the fact we should downsize! While I am not ready to move out of our own home yet, staying with Marie-France in Redondo Beach really provided all we could possibly wish to find in a home away from home. I consider it my "chez moi, chez elle."
I was very pleased with this choice. It is rare that you get your moneys worth but this one delivers.
You will get plenty of sun here!! The skylights are wonderful and the atmosphere of the space is very relaxing. The kitchen is well furnished (including a french press and a mocha pot for coffee options, I used the mocha pot as I like my italian style espresso).
Marie is a great host, she's open to chat or will give you space if you prefer. I highly recommend sitting down with a bottle of wine and chatting with her for a bit. She's very knowledgeable about the area, so if you are looking for anything she'll point you in the right direction.
One thing that surprised me was the internet connection. It's very fast, I used ookla speedtest and clocked it at 50/50. Typically I find that most hotels, bnb's, or other rentals skimp on the internet, not here. You can skype, check out netflix or hulu, or game with no issues.
I like to run and the beach is the perfect distance away for a 20 minute jog. The local area is safe and quiet. All the necessary shops are close by (Albertson's, Trader Joe's, CVS, many restaurants).
We stayed in Marie-France's hide-away this year for six weeks [while visiting relatives] and could not have been more pleased with every aspect of our stay. Centrally located, the unit is very quiet and well-maintained. The kitchen area is furnished with just about everything you need to prepare not only breakfasts and snacks, but complete meals. Guests have access to a very large furnished deck at the bottom of a slope filled with beautiful flowering plants. Mornings passed there with a second cup of coffee and a good book made me feel I was in heaven. Marie-France herself is a welcoming and accommodating hostess. Very highly recommended!
This is a nice safe neighborhood location. We traveled to LA with our teenagers for a Dodgers baseball game and visited the beaches. Beach is very close to this house. It is clean and well kept with a quiet outdoor deck and patio. We could not hear a thing! Easy on street parking with shopping and a local grocery store near by. The owner is amazing and very helpful during our stay. A+
Bike Path along the beach. Hiking trails on Palos Verdes Peninsula. Whale watching. Harbor Cruises. Farmer's Market by the beach (watch dolphins and pelicans!). Riviera Village shops. Redondo Beach Pier. All within .5 miles to 2 miles or so.
