I was born and spent the first part of my life in England and moved to Santa Fe in 1987. I am an artist and work in a lot of different areas of the arts, which is what brought me to Santa Fe. My daughter was born in 1994 and is attending College near Boston, which is why we are now renting out our home to vacationers.
Shirley Van Slooten purchased this house in 2002
My daughter and I picked this home as it had a lovely big landscaped yard and the neighborhood is close to downtown and the shops. We felt at home here right away and it has been our home now for the past 12 years.
We really fell in love with the house when we stepped into the back yard. It was beautifully landscaped and even though it is on the corner of a fairly busy street, it feels very peaceful and private. The house itself is very airy and bright with the clerestory windows in the sitting room, but also very cozy and homey in the winter.
I have been renting this home for the past 5 months, and I have loved every minute of my stay!
It is close to the plaza and the center of Santa Fe, and also to grocery stores and other businesses. I could bike to downtown on the river path, or drive to stores and restaurants within minutes.
I feel very at home here, and very safe in the neighborhood. The house is warm and cosy, now that
winter has come, and has everything I need. The back patio and yard were lovely too; especially during the summer months.
I would recommend Casa Daisy to anyone visiting Santa Fe!
First the positive things... central location, 10 minute drive to the Plaza and to almost anywhere... the price is less than most places on VRBO. The downsides... it is right on a very busy street, the bedroom is about 20 feet from a very busy road... as is the outdoor area which looked so beautiful in the photos. I did not get to enjoy the outdoor area at all and that is primarily why I took this house. This is not a place for anyone who is chemically sensitive or sensitive to dust. I felt there was a problem with the electricity when 6 of the overhead lights blew out within 10 days... 2 lights got "stuck on"... the owner said it was a coincidence that all of the lights blew out at the same time. It did not feel safe and she did not call an electrician to check it out. Many things were broken and without upkeep... in the kitchen, sliding glass door, things falling from the wall that were not attached properly. Finally, I clarified all of the expenses with the owner beforehand. She assured me that there would be no charges from VRBO. I received a charge of $108 from VRBO and thought she would refund it based on our communication... but, she refused to return the money claiming she did not know anything about these charges and that she had never been informed by VRBO of these new charges. I called VRBO about this and they said that she had received 4 emails regarding this new policy of charging fees directly to the tenant. She denied receiving these emails and still has not re-imbursed me for these fees. Very bad experience for me.
We had a great time touring around Santa Fe, getting to learn more about the area, plus shopping at the Plaza. We also ate at a lot of different restaurants (which were all so delicious). Everything was convenient to Casa Daisy, no matter what you were going to do. We want to thank you so much for allowing us the use of your lovely home. The pictures on VRBO/Home Away are exactly what you get when you walk in. Felt just like coming home. Every evening we would sit outside and just relax after a busy day. Next time we come to Santa Fe I hope to enjoy another stay at Casa Daisy. Thank you again for our staying at your home. Laci & Tryst also enjoyed their stay at Casa Daisy and the dog park, too. We will recommend your home to anyone who plans to come to Santa Fe.

this home was outside of the busy area of town. I enjoyed my stay. the weather permitted spending time outside. The backyard was a peaceful haven after galleries, museums and excursions out in the desert. The hammock allowed for some wonderful star gazing.
My husband, dog, and I stayed at Casa Daisy while in town visiting friends and buying a house not far from our location We loved the area and especially being able to walk the trails every day and up to the fantastic dog park in the hills. There is a wonderful Co-Op close by. Shirley was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. We are looking forward to eventually moving to Santa Fe and living just up the road- it is a great location. We really enjoyed the garden and sitting outside with our dog, Nora being able to chill out at the end of a busy day.
I spent one week at Casa Daisy with my dog. It was the perfect location for us with the large fenced yard, separate dog area and River Trail just a block away. I brought my bike and it was an easy bike ride to the Plaza and other places. The house itself is well maintained, had everything I needed and I thoroughly enjoyed the covered back patio during afternoon rains and for morning coffee. While it is next to a busy street, it is very private. I would definitely stay here again.
At the end of our street La Joya Road the Santa Fe River has been landscaped into a river park. There is a lovely hiking/biking trail which runs along the river to downtown historic Santa Fe. The trail also takes you to a park with breathtaking views of the nearby mountain ranges, where you can walk and let your dogs run off the leash.
