Spacious, flexible and comfortable accommodation - sleeping from 2 to 10 people

La Varlope offers good quality, very spacious and flexible accommodation.

The accommodation comprises two fully-equipped, self-contained apartments, which may be rented separately.

Rental prices quoted are for one 3 bedroom apartment sleeping a maximum of 6 (on the ground and first floors).

In addition, there is a second apartment on the top floor of the chalet which comfortably sleeps 4, meaning accommodation is available for up to 10 people in total - please ask for prices if you are interested in booking both apartments together.

We consider short breaks and non-standard arrival / departure dates too - please just ask!

Accommodation: In addition to the first/ground floor apartment visitors have the use of the garage for storage of equipment (great for skis or mountain bikes).

The south facing balcony is equipped with a canopy providing shade for outside dining.

There is parking for three cars.

Supermarket 700m from chalet.

Locality/Travel: The alpine village of La Chapelle d’Abondance boasts several excellent restaurants, including an excellent micro-brewery 'Le Fer Rouge", which is approx 20 mins walk along the river.

The many bars and restaurants of Châtel are also within easy reach (3km).

Tourist offices in both La Chapelle and Chatel for information; Supermarket: 0.7km; Nearest airport – Geneva (65km/40 miles); Nearest ferry port – Calais (500 miles); Nearest railway station – Thonon les Bains (35km); Car: recommended.

La Chapelle d'Abondance in the summer: The summer offers warm temperatures and clear alpine air. The area is renowned for its hundreds of kilometres of walking and mountain biking tracks, with chairlift facilities providing access to the mountains where there are many cafes and restaurants. There is an excellent indoor/outdoor swimming pool and spa facility in Chatel and there are tennis courts within walking distance of the chalet.

Towns such as Annecy, Geneva, Evian, Yvoire, Montreux are within easy driving distance for day visits.

The chalet belongs to the local area's 'Multipass' scheme, offering huge discounts on a wide range of summer activities (including free access to the swimming pool in Chatel).

About Eleanor or Ian Parker

We're a family from Wales and we all love the mountains. We have spent many happy summer and winter holidays in the Alps and discovered the area around Chatel and La Chapelle d'Abondance about 15 years ago.

The ski area is huge, with plenty to offer skiers of all abilities.

It's also a great area for walking, cycling or mountain biking, with the ski lifts doubling as bike lifts in the summer months.

La Varlope is a pretty chalet, on the road from La Chapelle d'Abondance, to the ski area at Linga

We were six adults, staying in the ground and first floor flats and it lived up, fully, to our expectations. It is comfortable, has a homely atmosphere and it would be a pleasure to stay there again. Our early booking contact was with Ellie, one of the owners, who was a pleasure to deal with and who was able to resolve a couple of our last minute requests, without any problem. We had a very enjoyable time.

Corbin and Elrick families

Our two families had a 1st class holiday at Chalet Varlope over new year 2014. We took the middle apartment which was very comfortable and spacious for 7. It really felt like we had the whole chalet as we had sole access to the boot room downstairs. The kids loved the space to run around.

Access to the slopes was so easy. We either drove and parked at the chairlifts at Pre Le Joux or we took the bus which stopped right outside the chalet.

The skiing was nothing short of phenomenal. We have skied at most resorts in France but the Porte du Soleil area is definitely up there with the best. True to it's name, we enjoyed lots of sunshine as well as snow during our week.

The kitchen was so well equipped that we chose to eat in most evenings to make it easier for little ones' bed times. The supermarket had everything we needed and was really close.We ate at a plethora of fabulous places during the day. Thoroughly recommend Les Cornettes and Le Taverne d'ici et d'ailleurs in La Chappelle for fantastic food and a family friendly environment. Make sure you book ahead if you are staying during busy weeks. Le Feu Rouge microbrewery is also well worth a visit during happy hour. Get there early if you want a seat!

We will definitely be back to Chalet Varlope. It has all the ingredients for a great family holiday.

WInter 2012 Holiday

The Accomadation was better than we expected. We had plenty of room with fitted wardrobes in the bedrooms. The bathroom had plenty of room to cope with washing our 3 children, you had the choice of eating in the kitchen or dinning lounge area as both had table with at least 6 seats in but you could also extend this by adding a small table and extra chairs as well. The location between the centres of Chatel and Chappelle du Abondance ment you had plenty of choices of lifts within a short drive or you could walk to the bottom of the drive to the bus stop which takes you to ski lifts.

We enjoyed skiing sledging going to local villages and down to lake Geneva / Le Man to see Chateau Chillon. We enjoyed eating in bars and restaurants at lunchtime and prefered to eat in the accomdation in the eveningas we have 3 small children but as we have been going to Chatel / Chappelle Du Abondance for the last 11 years know that eating out in the evening is also well worth it.

I have never felt more at home in a holiday accomadation with 3 small children than this I will recommend this to friends and others even without children.

Perfect chalet for a week of ski

We, party of 4, have had a wonderful week at this chalet.

We flew to Geneva and took a shared-minibus to the chalet (about 1,5 hours drive).

The chalet itself is huge. Downstairs has a bedroom for 3 people with a good bathroom with shower. Also downstairs is the ski/snowboard locker room. On the first floor is the main appartment. Which has a spacious kitchen, with oven, gas stove, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. The living room has a large table for breakfast/dinner and two very comfortable sofa;s to relax on. Wi-Fi in the apartment was super fast and reliable, even with 4 people on it. There is also a TV/DVD set, but we did not use this. Spacious bathroom with bath and also 2 other bedrooms (one with 2 single beds and one with 1 queenbed). Both beds were really comfortable.

Opposite the chalet there is a bus which takes you to Linga (this bus costs 1,50 euro per trip, or 10 Euro for a 10 trip card), or you could walk +/- 7-8 minutes to the Centre Sportive where a free shuttle bus stops, which also takes you to Linga.

Large supermarket located at about 10-12 minutes walk.

No restaurants within walking distance (we didn't find it safe to walk along the road for +/- 25-30 minutes in the dark to Chapelle d'Abondance), so we took the latest bus (I forgot how late it goes, something like 18.30) to Chapelle and took a taxi back (taxi was 25 euro). This was a really easy way to go out to a restaurant 3 times during our stay.

The chalet was very clean when we got there and all email contact with the owner was spot on. The owner was quick in replying to my enquiery and very helpfull.

Would definately recommend this chalet to others and we are already thinking of coming back next season.

Even though not really necessary, the bus to the skiresort works perfectly, a car might be handy. Even if it was just for groceries and going to restaurants later at night.

Convenient transport links make this a truly accessible location. The town of Chatel is 3km from the chalet and the closest ski lift (La Panthiaz) is just 1km away - providing access to the huge Portes du Soleil ski area.

Ski: The Portes du Soleil is one of the world’s most extensive skiing domains, linking 14 resorts across 2 countries with 650km of piste. Passes are available for the whole area and ‘ski safari’ type tours can be arranged. Châtel is situated at 1250 metres and has skiing up to 2400 metres, offering an equal balance of skiing for all levels. From some great black slope and off-piste skiing (regularly visited by the best free-stylers and free riders in the world), through to very appealing blues and reds and some excellent beginner facilities at multiple locations in the resort. For those looking to advance their skiing skills, there are 6 ski schools offering every level of tuition. Châtel also offers an excellent snow park with an 800 m ski and boarder cross run, 51 km of cross country pistes, night skiing in the Linga stadium and torchlight descents after an evening meal at one of the charming mountain restaurants.
