We are a small family of five: Dad Carlos, Mom Marlene, daughter, son, and our precious Sophie-a five year old Springer Spaniel. We have lived on the coast of southern California for 19 years. Carlos serves as the Principal for Ventura High School and Marlene serves as Coordinator and Trainer of Professional Development at the University of California Santa Barbara. Our son and daughter love the outdoors, especially hiking, rock climbing, and scuba diving. Sophie is in charge of keeping us smiling and makes sure to keep the family healthy by taking us on walks. Our family works hard, has ups and downs, and strives to celebrate and enjoy life. We feel truly grateful for the everyday blessings and miracles in our lives.
Marlene Cohen purchased this cabin in 2014
We have visited Utah at least three times a year for the last 18 years. We love the area and the people are very friendly. We are so excited to have been able to make this area a permanent part of our lives. After 18 years we still find this area magical and we discover something new each time we are there.
We are very lucky to be the second owners of this cabin. The previous owners were Omer and Anita Mullen. The Mullen's first started with a small one bedroom cabin but with time they added to their cabin until they made it into a full four bedroom home. The cabin has a peculiar layout that allows for privacy an also has an eclectic feel. For example one of the Zion's rooms is an actual room from the old Zion lodging. Parts of the room and door was purchased when the Zion lodge was remodeled many years ago. We look forward to restoring the home to a full cabin experience and at the same time honoring the hard work, eclectic style, and love that the Mullen's put into their home.
We love this location because it is right at the heart of Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon. The night skies, red cliffs, inspiring hikes, tranquility of the area, and spectacular sunrises are a true gift to the senses and this can be experienced without leaving the cabin...a home away from home.
The cabin is located on the side of a foothill. it is a wonderful secluded retreat with a great location for visiting Zion and Bryce Canyon. That being said, it would have been nice to know that there wasn't a TV. The hook ups were there and we weren't sure if the TV was missing. Seven of the eight people welcomed the lack of a TV, but some missed football Sunday The cabin was clean and well stocked with cooking essentials and paper products. The owners were accessible and replied promptly when we contacted them. The shower near the room with the skylight was cold. Fortunately, there were three other showers available. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others. We loved the atmosphere and the view.
Yes we would stay here again! So glad we picked this cabin because we investigated several places throughout the valley especially not knowing this area as it was our first time to Utah. We arrived at the cabin after dark so we weren't able to experience the beautiful views from the cabin until the next morning but boy are they amazing. We were 40 minutes from Zion and about an hour from Bryce. We hiked 4 straight days (1 day Bryce, 3 days Zion) and it was great to come back to such a comfortable cabin and enjoy the views and have a space for a drink and to prepare dinner. (Note much of this area is "dry" so you may want to bring your own bottle of wine.
The cabin is very well furnished. Very nice touch to have extra coffee, tea, spices, paper plates, trash bags, hand soap, dish soap, and laundry detergent left (which I think may have been left from previous visitors as well as the owner)...thanks for sharing everyone. Do bring bar soap and shampoo. We were a bit surprised that there is no TV but after the initial shock it was GREAT not having the outside world distractions and just fun discussion over the days events. The area lost power for one evening and after checking in with the owner she told us of the "emergency" bin with supplies such as candles and extra water etc....good thinking! The cabin grounds are quite interesting if you are looking for a little extra adventure. We never go around to eating at the restaurants in Mt Carmel BUT heard they were good.
Things we noticed and liked: extra pillows and blankets, washer and dyer, 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, ample sitting space both inside and on the patios, books and games, bunnies, bunnies bunnies (and other wildlife), private and cozy setting, propane grill, very well stocked kitchen.
Thanks for sharing your space we highly recommend this little gem.

Our family enjoyed staying five days in this homey cabin. Everything was well organized and easy to find, as we cooked most of our meals at the cabin. During the week we had between eight and ten people gathered together in our home and there was plenty of room for everyone. We all enjoyed watching about a dozen humming birds come to eat from the feeder on the porch, as well as, bunnies hopping around the property. We loved the views from the cabin! During the week we went on several side trips to go hiking and was delighted that we were centrally located to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. We were very pleased with the property owners being so friendly and accommodating to us. We would love to go back and stay at this cabin again someday!
Great central location from which to explore south Utah, particularly Zion, Bryce, and north rim of Grand Canyon. Marlene, the owner, made contact to ensure we were comfortable and had what we needed. The house was well organized and well stocked with incidentals. Comfortable bedrooms with access to private bathroom for each. The evening shade on the main porch provided a comfortable and cool evening retreat even on hot days.
If we are ever out there again we will try to stay there
We were eight avid hikers wanting to visit Zion NP, Bryce Canyon NP and Grand Staircase Escalante monument. Armed with information from our kind hostess, Marlene, we were able to plan a wonderful visit that included hikes, canyoneering, horse riding, stargazing, scenic drives and barbeques on the porch! The house with four bedrooms each having its own bathroom, washer and dryer, ample towels and sheets, wi-fi, and other thoughtful provisions made for a comfortable stay. We shopped at Costco in St. George before arriving at the cabin which is conveniently located close to a grocery store and gas stations. Needless to say we had a blast!
