About Marlene Cohen

We are a small family of five: Dad Carlos, Mom Marlene, daughter, son, and our precious Sophie-a five year old Springer Spaniel. We have lived on the coast of southern California for 20 years. Carlos serves as the Principal for Ventura High School and Marlene serves as Coordinator and Trainer of Professional Development at the University of California Santa Barbara. Our son and daughter love the outdoors, especially hiking, rock climbing, and scuba diving. Sophie is in charge of keeping us smiling and makes sure to keep the family healthy by taking us on walks. Our family works hard, has ups and downs, and strives to celebrate and enjoy life. We feel truly grateful for the everyday blessings and miracles in our lives.

Marlene Cohen purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Marlene Cohen chose Utah

We have visited Utah at least three times a year for the last 19 years. We love the area and the people are very friendly. We are so excited to have been able to make this area a permanent part of our lives. After 19 years we still find this area magical and we discover something new each time we are there.

We are very lucky to be the second owners of this cabin. The previous owners were Omer and Anita Mullen. The Mullen's first started with a small one bedroom cabin but with time they added to their cabin until they made it into a full four bedroom home. The cabin has a peculiar layout that allows for privacy an also has an eclectic feel. For example one of the Zion's rooms is an actual room from the old Zion lodging. Parts of the room and door was purchased when the Zion lodge was remodeled many years ago. We look forward to restoring the home to a full cabin experience and at the same time honoring the hard work, eclectic style, and love that the Mullen's put into their home.

What makes this cabin unique

We love this location because it is right at the heart of Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon. The night skies, red cliffs, inspiring hikes, tranquility of the area, and spectacular sunrises are a true gift to the senses and this can be experienced without leaving the cabin...a home away from home.

Beautiful setting near Zion

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Marlene's home. This is a great place for extended families to get together as the layout provides lots of areas for privacy. The cabin is comfortable and better stocked than many VRBO. The view is fantastic and the yard has pleanty of room to roam. Our dog loved it too! It is close enough to both Bryce Canyon and Zion that the drive is not burdensome and when you come back you are away from the crowds and able to sit on a lovely deck in a peaceful surrounding. We were also able to make a campfire in a fire ring and roast marshmallows! Finally, the stars were amazing. Thank you.

Ann Arbor

Amazing location to explore Zion, Bryce, The Grand Canyon, etc. etc.

This section of Utah and Arizona is BIG and this home makes it easy to see it all, Zion, Bryce, Dixie and Fishlake National Forests, Capitol Reef, Grand Staircase-Escalante, The Wave and even The Grand Canyon. It is on a major route, but set well off the road with wonderful views. Layout of house is a bit broken up, but this provides lots of individual spaces inside and out. Owner was amazing, responding to any questions, needs ASAP. Orderville is a very small town but Kanab has all the needed shopping and several nice restaurants.

This home is immaculate, very spacious and very well maintained. We have been renting homes for our vacations for 20 years and have never stayed in one that was so well stocked. Lots of special touches, and the owner stayed in touch to be sure we had everything we needed. The view from the house is beautiful, and it is located for easy travel to Zion, Bryce Canyon and other destinations. The house accommodated our group of 5 adults and one child with room to spare.

Plenty of room for four couples. The view from the deck is fantastic!

The cabin is located on the side of a foothill. it is a wonderful secluded retreat with a great location for visiting Zion and Bryce Canyon. That being said, it would have been nice to know that there wasn't a TV. The hook ups were there and we weren't sure if the TV was missing. Seven of the eight people welcomed the lack of a TV, but some missed football Sunday The cabin was clean and well stocked with cooking essentials and paper products. The owners were accessible and replied promptly when we contacted them. The shower near the room with the skylight was cold. Fortunately, there were three other showers available. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others. We loved the atmosphere and the view.

Owner's Response: Dear Mike, Thank you for your positive reviews and great feedback. I am so glad you enjoyed our cabin and the area. I am sorry that one person in your party missed the football game. On the VRBO website, we do have that we don't provide a TV. However, after your suggestion, I will include it under the description. Also, I am so sorry to hear that there was no hot water in the upstairs bathroom. I wished I had know and I would have sent our local plumber while you were there to check it out. Thank for letting me know. I will make sure to take a look at the hot water. I am glad that the the other three bathrooms had hot water. I really enjoyed communicating with your party before and during your stay. You and your party were great guests and we will be happy to host you again. Once again, thank you for staying at our cabin and for taking the time to write this review. Happy fall! Marlene.

This cabin is a treat....very unique space with plenty of room for all.

Yes we would stay here again! So glad we picked this cabin because we investigated several places throughout the valley especially not knowing this area as it was our first time to Utah. We arrived at the cabin after dark so we weren't able to experience the beautiful views from the cabin until the next morning but boy are they amazing. We were 40 minutes from Zion and about an hour from Bryce. We hiked 4 straight days (1 day Bryce, 3 days Zion) and it was great to come back to such a comfortable cabin and enjoy the views and have a space for a drink and to prepare dinner. (Note much of this area is "dry" so you may want to bring your own bottle of wine.

The cabin is very well furnished. Very nice touch to have extra coffee, tea, spices, paper plates, trash bags, hand soap, dish soap, and laundry detergent left (which I think may have been left from previous visitors as well as the owner)...thanks for sharing everyone. Do bring bar soap and shampoo. We were a bit surprised that there is no TV but after the initial shock it was GREAT not having the outside world distractions and just fun discussion over the days events. The area lost power for one evening and after checking in with the owner she told us of the "emergency" bin with supplies such as candles and extra water etc....good thinking! The cabin grounds are quite interesting if you are looking for a little extra adventure. We never go around to eating at the restaurants in Mt Carmel BUT heard they were good.

Things we noticed and liked: extra pillows and blankets, washer and dyer, 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, ample sitting space both inside and on the patios, books and games, bunnies, bunnies bunnies (and other wildlife), private and cozy setting, propane grill, very well stocked kitchen.

Thanks for sharing your space we highly recommend this little gem.
