Have a unique experience of Amsterdam on a spacious and light homely houseboat, situated on a picturesque canal among the real local Amsterdammers of Oud-West. We ask our guests to be aware of this and respect our lovely neighbours.
This neighborhood is without a doubt one of the most authentic and original parts of the city, we are proud to say that this area does not have any tourist traps and you can truly experience great variety, food and shops among the locals.
And yet must-sees such as the Dam Square, Vondelpark, Westerpark, Anne Frank House, van Gogh and Rembrandt museums are all located within walking distance!
Meander to the oldest part of the city called the Jordaan to enjoy boutique shopping and fantastic food, or walk to the theatre district and enjoy the great nightlife around the Leidse Square.
The boat is quite large with its 15 meters length and 5 meters width!
There are 2 bedrooms. One comfortable and spacious master bedroom with a big double bed (180x210 cm).
Adjacent is the second bedroom with a comfortable double bed (160x200 cm). It is a nice room with soft sheep wool carpet.
Next to the second bedroom you will find a stylish Italian tiled bathroom with a bathtub and big rain shower in it.
The kitchen runs across the second bedroom and the bathroom. It is equipped with a professional Boretti gasstove and oven, microwave/oven, fridge, dishwasher and you will find a washing machine and a dryer. Iris loves cooking and you'll find many cookbooks and spices, pots and pans etc. The drawers are fully stocked with all you can think of in order to make a complete diner for your family.
And if you don’t feel like cooking, rest assured, you are surrounded by some of the best restaurants in town.
The livingroom is about a comfortable 25 square meters and filled with natural light through all the windows. We particularly love our natural curtains being the floating garden next to our window where you will find birdlife happily going about their business. Furthermore there is a large flatscreen with digital television, a dvd/cd player with a dolby surround sound system. The great thing of living on a boat is that you live in a free-standing water villa and you won't annoy the neighbors when playing your favorite tune!
We have of course a child-seat and we have a playpen at your disposal.
All rooms have water view and there is WiFi and cable connection.
Not that you would hopefully need it in Summer but there is floor heating all through the boat.
Also the boat has a small terrace and a little settee between the boat and the street level.
We wish to share the great experience of living in this gorgeous part of Amsterdam on this beautiful canal!

Hi there, thanks for visiting our personal page, and hopefully we'll meet soon at our houseboat! We lived on this boat for 7 years now and really enjoyed every moment of it. You can really call us houseboat enthusiasts, with a huge love for the great life on the water. Iris is a child psychologist and Juul is an entrepreneur and fishing guide, and we both love the hospitality business. So be welcome!

The Babeth is without a doubt one of the most beautiful houseboats around. The well designed boat with curved ceilings, lovely portholes and huge windows in the living room are just a few reasons why we fell in love with this boat. A few other reasons: it's very close to various supermarkets, nightshops, restaurants, bars and of course the great Jordaan area. Just have a look around and convince yourself
Perfect location close to bars, restaurants, entertainment and shops. The architecture will make you feel at home right away. And you'll never be bored in this lively part of Amsterdam. Just walk out the door and start walking in any given direction and you will be surprised about the variety of things of interest!
Chose a houseboat instead is an apartment or hotel and it was well worth the extra expense. The photos depict the houseboat as it is which was a huge relief as we thought it looked too good to be true when we first found it on the internet.
So much space, no narrow stairs to cart luggage up except a few at entrance and a very tranquil setting. Thoroughly enjoyed getting up each morning and surveying the world through lounge room windows. Very relaxing. Walked to major attractions and discovered lots of unexpected places along the way.
Word of warning though to those who take the tram from Centraal station to the houseboat. Trams are not set up for luggage and we had fun chasing 4 wheel suitcase down aisle of the tram! Amused the locals on board. Only costs about 12 - 15 euros to catch a taxi. We did this at the end of our stay as we had to get board a boat for river cruise to Budapest.
The only thing that would have improved the experience would have been a folder/book with maps showing location of suggested restaurants, instructions on how to operate washing machine & dryer, recycling and garbage instructions, plus a bit of information about how the Dutch live in a similar situation. Useful phone numbers like taxis etc in the folder would also be useful.
Our 5 nights at the houseboat were a wonderful relaxing time and a great contrast to the busyness of life in Amsterdam.
This was the second time we stayed on the houseboat and this experience was just as lovely as the first. The location is great - a tram stop is a couple of minutes away and in any case it is only a 15-29 minute walk to the Dam. The houseboat is as lovely as the photos depict and Juuls was available for any question or issue we had.
The boat was even nicer and bigger than the pictures. Great location. If you stay in Amsterdam you have to stay here!

Firstly I was surprised that the taxi driver could even find the houseboat. We spent five glorious days there. We forced ourselves to the top deck one afternoon, and the only reason was that it was chilly out. Next time I'd be there in warmer weather. It was fun waking up and seeing the bird life swim by the window and watching all the bikes driving by. The area was close enough to walk to town, although my feet were ready to fall off one day. My only suggestion for the owner is that my sister had the smaller bedroom and if there had not been stuff in the drawers(?), she could've put her things away. Other than that we had no issues! Thanks again for letting us stay in your lovely home! It was memorable!!
We arrived very early, so used public transport rather than a taxi to get to the houseboat. The directions were accurate and easy to follow. Juul arranged for us to drop off our luggage early which made a big difference, and arranged for us to board by 2PM. Our experience was superb in that it really was a very comfortable home away from home. We could walk to most places and a tram stop very close by was handy when we wanted to go further afield. A large supermarket was steps away. It was lovely to wake up each morning and watch the swans glide by. Unreservedly recommended.
The upcoming area 'Oud West' is without a doubt one of the hottest places to be right now. No tourist traps, loads of great shops, organic products and fantastic small restaurants at walking distance. Stay with us and experience how it is to live like a real Amsterdam local!
Amsterdam charges a 5.5% rate as tourist tax. We are obliged to pay this.
