Have a unique experience of Amsterdam on a spacious and light homely houseboat, situated on a picturesque canal among the real local Amsterdammers of Oud-West. We ask our guests to be aware of this and respect our lovely neighbours.
This neighborhood is without a doubt one of the most authentic and original parts of the city, we are proud to say that this area does not have any tourist traps and you can truly experience great variety, food and shops among the locals.
And yet must-sees such as the Dam Square, Vondelpark, Westerpark, Anne Frank House, van Gogh and Rembrandt museums are all located within walking distance!
Meander to the oldest part of the city called the Jordaan to enjoy boutique shopping and fantastic food, or walk to the theatre district and enjoy the great nightlife around the Leidse Square.
The boat is quite large with its 15 meters length and 5 meters width!
There are 2 bedrooms. One comfortable and spacious master bedroom with a big double bed (180x210 cm).
Adjacent is the second bedroom with a comfortable double bed (160x200 cm). It is a nice room with soft sheep wool carpet.
Next to the second bedroom you will find a stylish Italian tiled bathroom with a bathtub and big rain shower in it.
The kitchen runs across the second bedroom and the bathroom. It is equipped with a professional Boretti gasstove and oven, microwave/oven, fridge, dishwasher and you will find a washing machine and a dryer. Iris loves cooking and you'll find many cookbooks and spices, pots and pans etc. The drawers are fully stocked with all you can think of in order to make a complete diner for your family.
And if you don’t feel like cooking, rest assured, you are surrounded by some of the best restaurants in town.
The livingroom is about a comfortable 25 square meters and filled with natural light through all the windows. We particularly love our natural curtains being the floating garden next to our window where you will find birdlife happily going about their business. Furthermore there is a large flatscreen with digital television, a dvd/cd player with a dolby surround sound system. The great thing of living on a boat is that you live in a free-standing water villa and you won't annoy the neighbors when playing your favorite tune!
We have of course a child-seat and we have a playpen at your disposal.
All rooms have water view and there is WiFi and cable connection.
Not that you would hopefully need it in Summer but there is floor heating all through the boat.
Also the boat has a small terrace and a little settee between the boat and the street level.
We wish to share the great experience of living in this gorgeous part of Amsterdam on this beautiful canal!

Hi there, thanks for visiting our personal page, and hopefully we'll meet soon at our houseboat! We lived on this boat for 7 years now and really enjoyed every moment of it. You can really call us houseboat enthusiasts, with a huge love for the great life on the water. Iris is a child psychologist and Juul is an entrepreneur and fishing guide, and we both love the hospitality business. So be welcome!
Juul Steyn purchased this house boat in 2007
The Babeth is without a doubt one of the most beautiful houseboats around. The well designed boat with curved ceilings, lovely portholes and huge windows in the living room are just a few reasons why we fell in love with this boat. A few other reasons: it's very close to various supermarkets, nightshops, restaurants, bars and of course the great Jordaan area. Just have a look around and convince yourself
Perfect location close to bars, restaurants, entertainment and shops. The architecture will make you feel at home right away. And you'll never be bored in this lively part of Amsterdam. Just walk out the door and start walking in any given direction and you will be surprised about the variety of things of interest!
Our family of four loved our stay on the charming Houseboat Babeth! The location on Da Costakade was the perfect spot to explore Amsterdam - convenient to many things on foot and close to the #13 tram line. The neighborhood has a good variety of restaurants along with a market across the street from the houseboat. We especially loved the rooftop terrace; we enjoyed drinking wine while watching the world go by on the bridge and on the canal. Juul was a very good host and met us on arrival. The houseboat was spacious, comfortable, very clean, and offered all the amenities we needed to feel at home. We highly recommend Houseboat Babeth and we will definitely book with Juul and Iris for our next trip to Amsterdam.
The house boat was a different experience. Well stocked with toiletry items and owners were great! The house boat did require minor repairs otherwise we enjoyed our stay. We will return to Amsterdam as 1 week was not enough time to see everything!
My hubby and I just returned from 8 great days in Amsterdam staying at this wonderful floating home! It has everything you could possibly need and more to make for a comfortable stay and the location is perfect. Close to restaurants, shopping and public transportation. It's spacious, clean and if it were here in California...we would live on it full time!
The bed is super comfortable! The bathroom was perfect for both my hubby and I to get ready together in! The kitchen is fully equipped! The living and dining room are super comfortable and full of windows and light! We absolutely loved the houseboat!
Now for the owners....they're over the top awesome! I sent many, many, MANY emails prior to our arrival and Juul & Iris responded promptly and with great detail on my many questions. When we first checked in, we felt as if we were already friends and we've known them forever. They're hands on and there if you need them! Such nice people!
Attached to the boat is a floating garden and on there was a Mama goose who laid her eggs and we got very attached to her during our stay and it really made another special experience on our trip. It was hard to leave her as we really wanted to be there when the babies hatched....so, Juul and Iris, please keep us posted on when the babies arrive and how they do.
Honestly, we can't say enough great stuff about this place and the owners! It was a wonderful vacation and place to stay. If we make it back to Amsterdam, we would absolutely stay there again!
Thank you Juul and Iris for EVERYTHING!!
Hugs, Greg & Lorri
We were delighted with our stay on the houseboat....for four adults it was remarkably comfortable, quiet and spacious. The beds were great. The kitchen well appointed and functional. Juul was terrific to deal with and consistently friendly and helpful. The location is an easy walk of 15mins or less to places like the Anne Frank house and all the charms of the Jordaan neighborhood. It's also directly on a main tram line for longer jaunts. There's a wonderful bakery and bagel shop and a gourmet grocery and wine shop right next door.Mostly we loved the chance to experience the houseboat lifestyle, the beauty of being right on the water, the views of beautiful birds including a nesting pair of geese right on the stern. So much more interesting than some ordinary hotel option .....Unforgettable and fun......
We had a wonderful time on this houseboat. It was so relaxing and quiet to come off the streets of beautiful Amsterdam. We loved the location. Juul was very repsponsive and helpful. This vacation has a special place in our hearts.
Shared the houseboat for 5 days with a friend and her 12 year old daughter and it was so lovely. We had the living dining room area which looked out at the water and the ducks and geese entertaining us while we were able to talk, eat, relax and share our thoughts in such a tranquil atmosphere. The beds were very comfortable and bathroom very nice. The property was very clean and well-maintained. We appreciated the variety of teas and coffee that were there for us. The owner was waiting to give me the keys and also when we left to see us off. Very good service!
We did most of our tour on foot or boat, the jump on jump off, which was not too far and the local restaurants were really good and close. My favorite was a Dutch Restaurant called Mother's in Dutch a 5 minute walk away. We went there twice! I would recommend this houseboat to friends and am hoping to bring my own family back to this wonderful holiday spot!
Amsterdam is a walking or biking city and perfect for those who enjoy exploring the many museums and activities it has to offer!
