About Mr Twyford

We are a family who enjoy the cottage every year and live in West Sussex. We fell in love with the surrounding area and Dorset many years ago when our eldest boy Joe was just 2 years old and quite poorly, one break we brought him down here and have been coming back ever since. As you can see he's quite well now! It's grown into a place that not only we enjoy but for everyone who comes here and we are constantly reminded by all who have stayed what a lovely cottage and area it is.

Mr Twyford purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Mr Twyford chose Litton Cheney

Crosstrees Farm cottage is a very characterful stone cottage but we were massively attracted to it because as well as having the old world charm it is also quite spacious and light. It enjoys lovely views from the rear of the house out towards the stunning Bride Valley and glimpses of the sea. It has a lovely open and spacious living room with a wood burning stove and just a generally great feel. It enjoys a private garden where it is lovely to sit out on and enjoy the southerly aspect and listen to the birds singing. We really feel it is like a home from home and this is what we aim to give the feeling to all who stay.

What makes this cottage unique

As mentioned above, it is both spacious and light and has a wood burning stove in an old inglenook fireplace. We are told the property was built around 1815 and therefore has lovely old thick stone walls and traditional cottage windows at the front. There are wonderful views from the rear bedrooms directly south over the Bride Valley. But as well as this it's location is fantastic, both close to the centre of the beautiful village and just a hop in the car to the beach and all the local amenities.

We loved it!!

  • 5 of 5

Sadly we was only staying 2 nights as was visiting for a wedding.

We loved the house and it's massive!!! Everything was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with appliances.

The garden was lovely we sat in it in the mornings and evenings chatting. There was 7 adults and the house catered for all of us we all just wished we were staying longer. I would go back and recommend to all. Thank you

Lovely spacious property

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable accommodation with a spacious living room and dining room, each with a lovely wood burner. It has a well equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, and 4 comfortable bedrooms with excellent beds. All of it was spotlessly clean. Outside there is ample off-street parking for 3 cars, and a garden. It is also a delightful, quiet village. On the down side there is no mobile phone signal at the house (but it does have a working landline), the internet connection was sometimes intermittent, and the water pressure in the showers was a little lacking (bath was fine). None of these were particularly important to us while on holiday and we had a lovely stay. I would certainly recommend this property.

Execllent - would highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. The house was perfect and extremely comfortable for a group of 5 adults and two babies. Litton Cheney is a charming little village and a fantastic location for exploring the south Dorset coast. The owner (Harry) is also extremely helpful and made the whole process very straightforward. We will look to stay again, thank you.

Great little home in the wilds of Dorset

  • 5 of 5

Three families (3 children under 10) enjoyed a wonderful 4 day break in October. Not the best weather but this warm house has large living room (wood-burner fire) and a separate dining room which comfortably sat us all at one table. We struggled with the electric hob (all having gas hobs at our homes) but eventually worked it out. Two double-bed rooms with large double beds, a twin bedded room and single bed room and 'put-u-up' provided the family with good night's sleep. Electrically heated showers were difficult to get temperature 'just right' and it would be good to have some instructions about TV and video player - not even the 9 year old got the TV to function! Others said it was a blessing to be without TV for a couple of days!!

Not far from Hive beach and West Bay for seaside and some wonderful walks either along coast path or inland - both have spectacular views.

The owner was very prompt in answering any questions. A good time was had by all.

Very comfortable, welcoming and light cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Crosstrees Farm Cottage. It was well located for visitor attractions in the area and we were able to walk to the local pub for a drink and a meal. The cottage was characterful light and airy, and well appointed, all the rooms were good sizes.

We struggled a little with the TV controls but other than that we had no negatives at all.

Crosstrees Farm Cottage is nestled within the beautiful Bride Valley, so called because of its famed beauty and location so close to the Jurassic Coast, the world heritage site which covers 95 miles of truly stunning coastline from East Devon to Dorset, with rocks recording 185 million years of the Earth's history. The cottage itself is in the quintessentially English village Litton Cheney, a picturesque village with a local Pub and a clear stream running though it. There are many lovely walks available along the Jurassic coastline and it is also close to the seaside village of Burton Bradstock and West Bay, more recently well known for its filming of the popular detective series "Broadchurch". There are many lovely public houses and restaurants around and it is generally a stunning rural area beautiful beaches and walks. In the nearby town of Bridport there are many nice and interesting shops as well as a local market held every Thursday and at weekends. The nearest beach, Hive Beach is only 4 km away and has a lovely and very popular beach Cafe and restaurant serving freshly caught fish from the local vicinity. This is truly a place where you can leave all the bustle of everyday life and enjoy some peace and tranquillity.
