This property has been in our family for well over 100 years. When our parents passed away, we did not want to part with it, so we renovated it to share with our family, friends, and neighbors. We tried to keep as much of the original flavor of the house as possible - what wasn't already changed by our ever-busy remodeling mother! The interior is completed, but we still have some work to do on the back porch, as well as the exterior.
Although we are located conveniently close to all the stores and play areas, the lot is very large and private.
For the money this place cant be beat. We had 8 people comfortable, and the instant hot water heater was a godsent after our crew went snowmobiling all day and wanted long showers. There are trails locally, but its only a 20min drive to Twin Lakes/South Range....the mecca of snowmobiling.
We have ben staying at Brenda's vacation home for several years & enjoy it's roomy, comfortable,& clean atmosphere close to the mountains & all the wooded locations we like to hunt.
If you wish a strategic location from where to explore the porkies and the Keweenaw peninsula, this is your house. Clean, comfortable, nostalgic, quiet and cozy!
Nice place to take my large family and not be harassed like when we use a hotel. Place is historical and beautifully maintained.
We enjoyed our stay at Noochie's Nest. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. Though the exterior was going through some refurbishment during our stay, everything in the house was finished and ready for guests. Kitchen was well-supplied with all the pots and pans, utensils, etc a family might need to cook for themselves and save money on eating out.
We appreciate that the house was pet friendly, and enjoyed playing with our dog in the big side yard.
This property is well-situated for day trips to the Porcupine Mountains, Lake Superior shore, parks and waterfalls, mining and history sites. We'd recommend this property to others looking for a family get-away to explore the beautiful western UP of Michigan!
My family and my sister-in-law's family stayed at Noochie's Nest for 6 days this August (4 adults, 3 "tweenage" kids, 2 dogs). We had a really nice time exploring Ontonagon and the Porcupine Mountains, and just hanging out at the house. Highlights were the Presque Isle waterfalls in the Porkies, pasties from Syl's and pie from Lynn's, and picking blackberries in the back yard. Plus Lake Superior sunsets, watching the Olympics in the living room, and just having time away from home to relax and take a breath.
I was a bit concerned about there being just one bathroom, but that worked out fine. A fan for ventilation in the bathroom might have been nice (not a big deal). The downstairs bedroom has glass doors to the dining/ living area, so if the people in there want to go to bed before others, they might want to have a darker cloth to cover the windows (it has a white lace-like curtain which gives privacy, just doesn't block the light very well). Kitchen was well equipped. There is no clothes washer, but there is a coin laundry in town. Wifi worked fine. And as others have noted, it was nice and clean, and great to be able to have the pets there.
On the outside, the big side yard and blackberries were delightful surprises! Also it was a "just right" distance to walk downtown, and we did so quite a few times. Ontonagon is at an interesting point between the mining/timber economy and growing tourist economy. The 15 minute drive to the Porkies was worth it for the chance to have the whole house and be within walking distance of downtown.
One day of our stay, we got a rustic cabin in the Porkies. Two of us stayed there the night, while the rest (including the dogs), stayed at Noochie's. This worked well, because the cabins in the park do not allow pets (although the trails and campsites do).
We did not see much of Brenda, but we didn't need to. She brought fresh towels mid-week, and when we did see her, she seemed very nice.
A clean, affordable and relaxing place to stay in a fascinating part of the world.
Ontonagon is near the beautiful Porcupine Mountains, where sight-seeing is a must! You can also enjoy hiking, snowmobiling, skiing, waterfalls, beaches. Noochie's Nest is next to the snowmobile/ATV trail!
