Garden 2 Bedroom Duplex In Bedsty

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq ft
Property type townhome
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps 10

Welcome to this stunning and spacious brownstone duplex, renovated in 2012 with cherry hardwood floors, Bo Concept furniture and stainless steel appliances. The garden level with plenty of natural light features an open layout with a living room, dining room and kitchen leading out to a cultivated backyard and garden. The top floor has two large bedrooms. Each floor has a renovated full bath, including a washer and dryer on the main level.

The brownstone is located on a beautiful tree lined street in a quiet neighborhood close to the Historic Landmark District of Stuyvesant Heights in Brooklyn. It is just a few blocks from the subway that will quickly take you to Manhattan (Utica Avenue express A and local C trains / Halsey J train). This home is also conveniently located near several neighborhood restaurants, including Saraghina, Beso, Therapy Wine Bar, Peaches, the Pantry and Bed-Vyne.

The duplex can accommodate 9 guests comfortably with two large bedrooms: two real queen size beds in one bedroom sleeping 4 guests; one queen size bed and one futon in the other bedroom sleeping 3-4. An additional 2 guests can sleep on the queen size air mattress in the living room.

The owner lives in the top floor apartment, which is separate from the garden duplex apartment. However the foyer is a common space, but with a room divider put into place for added privacy and to separate the two apartments. Amal is the manager of this apt, she does not live here.

Free WIFI and Cable TV are included. There is a washer and dryer. The kitchen is a fully-equipped chef's kitchen, including a Viking 6 burner range stove with Thermador hood, Viking French-door refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher - everything you will need to cook as little or as much as you like.

This is the perfect apartment for you to call home during your short or long stay in New York!

I have another apt next door that sleeps 5 guests comfortably!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We are just back from spending 7 nights in Macon St. We were a party of four adults and the apartment was ideal as it is spacious and very well equipped with lots of fluffy towels, clean linen etc. Everything is exactly as you see on the website. Amal was able to answer all my questions prior to arrival but I was still concerned after reading some reports about crime in the BedStuy area - I should not have worried and please don't let this stop you from booking this lovely apartment. The local area is all wide tree-lined streets with beautiful buildings and the neighbours are very friendly -I lost count of the number of times we were offered a 'good morning' or 'how you doing?' whilst out walking and always felt safe, even returning at night. You should know that there is a house sitter on the top floor but this is not a problem, it's good to know there's some-one to ask if you need it. Amal had recommended some local restaurants, but I'd like to add Emeline's on Lewis Ave for a great breakfast with fantastic service. You will love this property!!!

Very spacious apartment that's got both historic and modern features

  • 5 of 5

This apt is exactly what the pictures show. Sometimes owners use a wide-angle lens to misrepresent the size of the property - but not in this case. The kitchen was very large with high-end appliances so we were able to cook a full Thanksgiving dinner. We liked the bedrooms being on the second floor along with a large and very modern bathroom. Having an outside space was an extra bonus. The apt is a 10 minute walk to the subway and there are some decent grocery stores within a few blocks.

Plenty of character

  • 4 of 5

Decent value for money. A little quirky if you're looking for something predictable. The neighbourhood is transitional. There are some nice parks and good restaurants, but it's a block by block situation. There is a fair bit of visible street crime at night, but everyone is quite friendly. Grocery and wine shopping was disappointing. We ventured outside the neighbourhood for provisions most of the time.

The apartment is very spacious. Most of the beds are quite comfortable. One is a little firm, but that's a matter of taste. The apartment was clean, but it's an old building and could use a "deep" cleaning. Windows coverings are light, bring a eyemask is you want to sleep late.

Living room furnishings have seen better days, but for what it's worth, I liked the eclectic style.

I would have liked to see a "house book" or something similar with tips about the house and the neighbourhood. Amal was acceptably responsive, but given the self-check in, a housebook would have been handy. A housebook guests could contribute to would be even better.

Excellent Customer Service, Sub-par Apartment

  • 2 of 5

The first thing I have to say is that Amal, the Manager, was amazing! Super friendly and always responsive. She did all she could to ensure our stay was as good as can be.

The apartment though... It was a let down from the pictures to be honest. They used a wide angle lens and have a lot of furniture removed in the pictures from what is actually there. It was dark, cramped, creaky and did not offer privacy between the upstairs owner (lives on the 3rd floor) and you as the guest.

Your bedrooms are on the same floor as the main entrance to the Apartment, which the owner uses to get to his place. It's wide open to your bedroom with old sliding doors as the only form of privacy. While we didn't have any issues while we were there, you cannot lock the doors to your rooms without being in it. Which means, if you leave and if the owner forgets to lock his door, all your stuff is open for the taking. It made me very uncomfortable. I would not stay here again for this reason alone. The 'rented' section should be completely self-contained from the 'owner' section with a locking door.

The furniture in the living room was terrible. An old green couch that was weathered and worn. There was an 'antique' 2 person chair/couch that was completely blown out and un-useable. The coffee table in the pictures was not there, instead there was an armoire and an ottoman that was bulky and awkward. The chandelier was low and a hazard (hit our heads a LOT). The kitchen was pretty nice though. Everything except the gas range, it seemed like it had been pretty abused and didn't work well.

The downstairs bathroom had electrical issues with the lights, so only 1 light worked. It was dark and felt like a dungeon. The owner replaced the 1 bulb, which helped, but it was still very dark. There was also a piece of metal in the shower floor near the drain, ouch!

The plumbing is old and we had issues with toilets. Also in the upstairs bathroom, the tub is not setup to be showered in properly. Its also awkward with the rain shower head in the center and curtains on 2 sides, while water splashed out the ends right next to an electric baseboard heater. Yikes!

The window shades didn't stay shut and the place was drafty. The upgrades felt like 'home owner' DIY projects that were not done professionally.

Finally, the area does NOT feel safe at night with a family. It was an uncomfortable walk to the subway.

I really wanted to love it, but overall, we were disappointed.

experienced city living

  • 3 of 5

Enjoyed having a place to experience what living in a city was all about. Bit of a hike to the subway, but we didn't mind, also felt safest when back before dark. Accommodations were not up to our standards, but acceptable for the price.

Beautiful Place

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 stayed in this wonderful home for 7 days. The large kitchen and upstairs bathroom were lifesavers. There is a washer/dryer that was very convenient. They keep the essentials on hand and even have a service that will deliver your requested groceries to the home. It is a few short blocks to A/C train station as well as the bus station. The train ride into NYC is only a short 20-25 min compared to close to an hour with a car service. There is a local small grocery store for small food items just down the block. Everyone was very friendly in the area. The home was spacious as well as clean.

Garden 2 Bedroom lives up to its name

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful home with comfy furnishings and a wonderful cooking kitchen. It had all of the amenities to make our big family gathering feel right at home. It's a short easy walk to metro in a lovely quiet neighborhood of other brownstones. Great neighborhood restaurants. The grocery store was a quick car ride with fabulous views of the statue of liberty to make it even that more special. You can hear the owner upstairs but it was not a problem at all and the owner entrance never became a hinderance for us. We'd recommend this for large groups or girlfriend getaways.
