About Stephen & Sarah Polacek

We currently live in Chester, Virginia with our two children. Stephen is active duty in the United States Army and works as a logistic officer. Our family truly enjoys the outdoors. Southern Oregon is one of our favorite places to spend time.

Stephen & Sarah Polacek purchased this house in 2011

Why Stephen & Sarah Polacek chose Grants Pass

We both grew up in North Bend, along the Oregon coast. Together with our families, we spent our childhood summers camping and rafting the Rogue. As children, we would float by the homes along the side of the river and always dream about someday owning one of them.

In 2011, we decided it was time to fulfill that dream and purchased the house from its original owner. We have spent the last few years remodeling it inside and out. The home is now a favorite gathering place for our family and friends. We are enjoying watching the next generation create memories at the River House and discovering the magic of the Rogue River. The home truly is our childhood dream come true and our favorite place to vacation. We are so happy to share the magic with you!

What makes this house unique

The property has a park like setting with large grassy areas with lots of trees. The riverfront is a beautiful thing to wake up to each day. Sitting on the deck and looking at it flow by is very peaceful. The deck also serves as a wildlife viewing area. There is a family of deer that will often stroll through the yard in the evening to head to the river to get a drink. Lots of squirrels, birds, and other critters to enjoy.

Amazing weekend getaway on the river

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful family getaway at the Riverhouse. The space was perfect for our family and had everything we needed for a long weekend. Some reviews mention a steep climb down to the river, but we didn’t have any trouble and were able to get down to the water unscathed with chairs and a 3 year old multiple times. We spent many hours on the back deck enjoying the peace and quiet. the tree canopy in the backyard offers lots of shade and great birding. The proximity to boat launches, Wildlife Images, and fishing spots was as good as it gets. Sara and Stephen were extremely helpful in answering questions and were so accommodating. We definitely will be returning!

Very relaxing and well equipped and spotless!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 3 nights at River House as a trial run for our 50th anniversary family vacation location next year. We truly enjoyed the spacious and comfortable home and lived outside on the great deck almost our whole stay except for sleeping! Watching the river traffic was fun and we cooked, ate, read and watched birds the entire time. Grants Pass had plenty to offer in shopping as well as restaurants. We enjoyed Gtanos Latin Restaurant on SW G Street. Small family eatery with huge portions. We’ll be back!

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 days at this woenderful place. There were 5 adults and 2 kids in this 3 bedroom and it was perfect we didn’t feel like we were on top of each other and none of the bed room walls are connected great for privacy. Beds are really comfortable and linens are so soft. The kitchen has all the utensils you need for cooking a great meal and for easy clean up. The back porch is great for bbq and playing games. They have a closet full of games. The river is amazing it is a steep trail down to get river access but worth the climb down and back. The location is great far enough away from town but not to far if you need something. I would love to revisit the river house and encourage anyone who is looking for a great river front place in grants pass to rent from Sara and Stephen responds quickly to questions via email.

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

If being away from traffic and the hustle and bustle is your goal this is the place. Clean and extra well appointed this home has it all. Nicely stocked pantry (spices.) Large fridge, glass cooktop, clean, modern bathrooms and a wonderful outdoor experience. No nasty carpets here, just easy clean laminate flooring. It is a drive to the nearest store/conveniences but hey that's what getting away means. We enjoyed our stay and would go again.
