Overview

About the property

Chalet, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

This lovely 2,160 square foot, three bedroom, three bathroom coach home chalet features all the desirable vacation conveniences including a bonus room loft for additional sleeping and recreation space. Please note: Most rentals in Firelight Meadows do not have this loft feature. The residence also has high speed internet access. This residence is exactly an 8 minute and 30 second drive to the drop off point at the Big Sky lifts and a 40 minute drive to West Yellowstone.

Michele and I purchased this residence in 2014 and it is laid out EXACTLY like our first two residences in Firelight Meadows; VRBO #240962 and VRBO #582804. These residences may be booked separately or together....they are 3 blocks apart in the same residential community. Checkout the other calendars if your preferred time is not available here AND/OR....bring some extended family or friends and book all three places at the same time!

Please note that in 2015, Michele and I purchased our fourth and final residence here in the Big Sky Meadow. This new residence is located over on the Meadow Golf Course and it is a bit more upscale with a private swimming pool for summer use. Check it out if you like at VRBO #695730.

Residence Physical description:

Upstairs, the large loft with pull-out couch provides a wonderful space for kids of all ages. The loft is equipped with a Foosball table, bean bag chairs, games for all ages and a 50' SMART HD TV! The Master Suite has a King bed, enormous closet, and a private bath with double sinks. The upstairs guest bedroom has a queen bed and a full/single bunk bed, beautiful up mountain views, and a private bath. The main floor bedroom has a queen bed, library, beautiful up mountain View, and a private bath.

The main floor is comfortably laid out with a large kitchen/dining/living room alignment. The kitchen is fully stocked with all necessary cooking and serving utensils. The dining room can be made to seat 8 and there are three barstools which pull up to an elevated kitchen counter. The living room contains a beautiful, elevated slate and rock fireplace, two great couches and the world’s most comfortable reading chair along with a 50” HDTV. The living room ends with sliding glass doors which open onto a concrete terrace with a private hot tub, gas grill, and beautiful up mountain views. The attached garage contains space for one automobile, ample wood for the fireplace, ski and board storage. The inside of the Home was freshly painted in the summer of 2014.

Located in the Meadow Village of Big Sky, this home is close to everything. The base lodge at Big Sky Ski Resort is a brief 8 minute ride from your home. Newly constructed half pipe, jumps and many pre-fab structures make Big Sky a Mecca for snow boarders. During ski season a free shuttle bus runs scheduled loops between one block from your home and the base facilities at Big Sky. Bars, restaurants, and grocery are just around the corner and a hiking trail to access the famous; Ousel Falls State Park is literally… just across the street. One of the World’s finest cross-country skiing facilities at Lone Mountain Ranch is two miles from your front door and in summer months, the Arnold Palmer designed Big Sky Golf Course is less than a mile away. The Gallatin, Madison, and Yellowstone rivers make Big Sky THE place to be for the fly-fishing enthusiast seeking world class, blue ribbon fishing. Believe it or not, fly-fishing is a “year-round” endeavor.

Well it finally happened; Big Sky now has a first-run, three screen movie theater in the Big Sky Meadow about one mile from our front door. Adult beverages and food may be consumed in the theater. The Lone Mountain Brewery is now serving great, inexpensive 'bar/family' food. An awesome hand shuffleboard court is free and the Montana Lemonade (spiked with two shots of 44 North Mountain Huckleberry Vodka {Gluten Free}) is wonderful along with an assortment of craft beers manufactured on site.

A little 2013 BIG SKY update: Our entire family was in residence recently (9/2013). As we have done in the past, we took a couple of guides out on the Gallatin River to do some awesome, purist, upstream nymph fly-fishing. We had both great fun and great fishing success and it was as expensive as skiing for a day...or two. Contrary to popular belief, if you go looking for "deeper holes" in the Gallatin bait-fishing or spin-cast fishing works and it requires no waders and no getting into a cold, slick, river. Massively fun for kids of all ages. Please see my daughter's HOG Brown Trout in the pictures section of the website! Our boys also reported that there is an AWESOME, newly developed concrete skateboard park (my oldest son manufactures skateboards and trust me....he knows his skate parks), not to mention two tennis courts, basketball courts, two baseball fields, soccer field, picnic area right along the West Gallatin.

The Yellowstone National Park boundary is about 20 miles away and the town of West Yellowstone is about 40 miles south of the entrance to Big Sky. Summer or winter; Yellowstone is a huge hit with both children and adults! Hundreds of miles of unique hiking trails range throughout the entire area both inside and outside the park.

There is simply so much to do and see that it is impossible to cover it all here; however as an interesting update….you may have heard about swinging through the jungles of the South American Rain Forrest….well you can now swing above the skiers and hikers of Big Sky’s Lone Mountain! Two other organizations have also created complex challenge courses: tree stands, cargo nets, obstacles, zip lines etc....great family fun.

Michele and I are pleased to assist you with further information and introductions.

About Phil Barnhill

Michele and I live in Minnesota, we have three children, and we have vacationed in Big Sky for more than 15 years. Big Sky is like a great marriage: you will fall in lust with it at first sight, it will grow on you, you will have many adventures, occasional hardships like getting lost while hiking or getting a federal speeding ticket in Yellowstone Park, or hitting an elk with your vehicle, you will create memories and while Michele and I have LOVED going to Big Sky, we have always LOVED going home....until this last trip with the kids in September, 2013. It is inexplicable...but we absolutely did NOT want to come home for the very first time ever. Our hearts are hooked by Montana. God's creation is truly magnificent!

Phil Barnhill purchased this chalet in 2014

Why Phil Barnhill chose Montana

Our original coach home chalet, VRBO# 240967 was a 'test' purchase to see if our family could really fall in love with the area: It passed the test! We have recently decided to build a greater presence in Big Sky by purchasing two more lovely residences in the Meadow. Why? Because a great deal of year-round recreational activity is developing right in the Meadow as it morphs into Downtown Big Sky AND the combination of the three ski resorts into one resort making Big Sky “The Biggest Skiing in America” will attract more snow enthusiasts to Big Sky to see how lovely it is. Hey…our home state of Minnesota is beautiful but Montana is awe inspiring....renewing. Normally, it takes an ocean to renew and revive us but we have discovered that if you can get into the backcountry by hiking, fishing in remote locations along the Gallatin, riding a horse or yes...even mountain biking into the Porcupine wilderness, you will be revived. Riding a horse to the fire lookout station on top of Cinnamon Mountain is.....beyond words. You will feel blessed to be in the midst of such wilderness, such grander. We are part of something soooo much bigger than ourselves and our own little world in flatland, flyover territory in Minnesota. Minnesota is wonderful and the boundary waters wilderness is something most folks should experience....Montana is a place everybody should visit at least once.

What makes this chalet unique

We love the family-oriented environment. Big Sky is NOT Vail...it's a quiet Western town that just happens to be at the base of one of America's largest and most majestic mountains. Fishermen freak out over this country and skiers are elated because there are NO lift lines. We can't decide if we like it best in summer or winter. This country has sooooooooo very much to offer...and unlike Minnesota.....NO Mosquitoes! 2013 update: This is the owner's section and it's just Phil talking here....but I have made up my mind. While I LOVE to ski (both ways) and I enjoy an occasional romp on a fast snowmobile down in West Yellowstone....Summers in Big Sky have absolutely stolen my heart.

Notes:
Everybody wears a helmet when skiing or boarding at Big Sky and Moonlight. The three connected resorts are audaciously maintained and spectacular. Please do not overlook the beautiful and upscale Moonlight Basin main lodge which is open to the public and has a complete spa, pool and exercise facility plus a bar, fireplace and dining room. The Big Sky base lodge is quite serviceable but ordinary (though I am hearing rumors of a pending upgrade). Do not miss the upscale restaurant/bar located on the mountain...a bit expensive but oh sooo worth it! Our place is just a spacious awesome place to hang...not fancy but comfortable and comforting with lots of afternoon sunlight and a killer view through the deck doors. 8 minutes from the Big Sky base lodge and 35-45 minutes from West Yellowstone. Enjoy!!!!!!!

This spacious 3-bdrm condo is equipped with everything needed for a great Montana vacation.

  • 5 of 5

This condo is in great condition, with comfortable beds and living spaces, a perfectly functional kitchen with plenty of counter space for food prep and many other amenities (hot tub, grill, recreation loft). Big Sky offers a wide variety of seasonal activities, restaurants and stores to meet all your needs. We were there in August and took advantage of the many hiking trails in the area as well as access to the National Parks. The scenery is breathtaking. Weekly free music and farmers' market in the town centre were fun. We had the most relaxing and pleasant vacation ever, will return to experience another season, and highly recommend Firelight Meadows as a base from which to explore and experience Montana/Wyoming/Idaho.

Owner's Response: Thanks Ruth! You hit the nail right on the head! The Meadow is a GREAT basecamp location! It's funny you mention the counter space: we used to line up all the ingredients along the long counter and then line up the kids and have them make their own lunch for skiing! It was a perfect system. There is more counterspace in this residence than in our Minnesota home! Come back and visit us again! Phil & Michele

Beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our 6 adult kids and had a wonderful week in Big Sky. We drove to Yellowstone, or Grand Tetons everyday. It was so nice to come back to this wonderful home and have dinner and hot tub with the family. There is some great hikes right here in Big Sky, just down the road, no car needed. Beautiful waterfalls and meadows nearby. The town is so quaint, and always something going on for entertainment. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Dear Anonymous..... great review of the residence and the area. You are soooooo correct; we realize that Yellowstone is a huge draw and now that you have come a few times, you realize that there really is no need to make the short hop to Yellowstone once you become familiar with Big Sky and Yellowstone. Our family has assembled information on many of our, and our guests, favorite hikes.... most hikes have a special "reward" at the end of them: a sweeping alpine meadow that looks out over mulitple ranges, an awesome alpine lake, flowers, flowers, flowers.... etc. We are always pleased to share the information. Ousel Falls is really cool and really close: .8miles from the residence. Best... Phil & Michele

Home was decorated very nicely.

  • 4 of 5

Super nice home. We were expecting air conditioning because it was listed under amenities. So suggest that you remove it from listing. We did find that we didn't need it since it cooled down nicely at night. Being from Ohio, we weren't expecting that. Only other suggestion would be to have a couple of pitchers for the kitchen.

We enjoyed being close to restaurants and shops.

Owner's Response: Teri, thank you for the nice review and the reminder about Air Conditioning. If one hovers over the words Air Conditioning in the VRBO listing, you will see that a comment pops up that we do NOT have AC. This is an unfortunate change in the manner in which VRBO is now displaying listing data. So sory about the surprise. I hate surprises and I will work with VRBO Technical Support to get this resolved. Best...Phil & Michele

Great place

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the property for the four nights we were there. This was our base for a trip into Yellowstone, a day at the Big Sky resort and another day around Lake Hebgen and shopping, dining in West Yellowstone. Very nice accommodations for three couples traveling with bedrooms and bathrooms for each couple. The owners were very responsive and helpful throughout the process of renting and gave helpful advice. Highly recommended.

well appointed home

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 came to Big Sky to relax and enjoy outdoor activities. We were successful in both. The house was clean, spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed (including an outdoor gas grill) so we ended up eating in most of the stay. I really appreciated the large washer and dryer. The hot tub was a favorite for everyone and 3 full baths was a plus. The house manager was also very nice.

Owner's Response: Elizabeth, thank you for your wonderful review. We are delighted that you enjoyed both the outdoor activities in Big Sky Country and that our residence helped to support fun and a great family environment for your time in-residence. Thanks also for the nice comments about Mariah who is special both to Michele and I and, by way of your comments, special during your stay with us!

Very clean, great location. All the amenities you could think of and then some.

Didn't realize when we booked that it was a town home, but it turned out to be spacious and comfortable. We did not have neighbors next to us so we were able to have privacy. Well maintained with everything we needed!

Owner's Response: Lisa, so sorry the connected residence was a surprise to you. We list the property as a coach home chalet and perhaps we should think of a better name. We have lived in each of our residences in Firelight over many years and even when there are people next door, because of the construction layout and building methods, one never hears a peep out of a neighbor in residence. Glad you had a great experience! Phil & Michele Barnhill

Enjoy the Big Sky Zip Line on the mountain! Big Sky now offers a brand new 3 screen Movie Theater located in the Meadow. No more trips to Bozeman just to see a movie! You can eat in the theater and enjoy your favorite child OR adult beverage while watching the movie. Our 50' Flat Screen HDTV has over 80 pre-recorded, family-friendly movies. Something for kids of all ages.

We can get you in touch with the most fantastic, elite traditional fly-fishing guides in Big Sky; HOWEVER....for you non-purests we have developed a WONDERFUL relationship with a local Chef who LOVES to take folks bait fishing on the Gallatin. Very Cost effective and extremely fun for everybody. Waders and wading in a fast river is NOT necessary when bait fishing. By the way...when bait fishing you catch real HOG fish. Really should give this a try!
