Absolutely Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

God has blessed you with an amazing home. The scenery is lovely and the neighbors are nice. WiFi does not work, that's a good thing in this house!

Tip: Bring a paper map and be prepared to use it. Our GPS could not find the place and we got lost a few times.

Absolutely Beautiful!!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at the cottage was awesome! The only drawback was the lack of cell service in the area but at the same time it was nice to get away from it for a while. The house had everything we needed and while we were there we were lucky enough to experience both spring and winter like weather. The first day the weather was beautiful and we were able to spend the day outside. The next day we woke up and it was snowing quite heavily. I would certainly recommend this place for anyone who wants to get away for a little while and still feel like they are at home.

Breathtaking Views of the river. A very peaceful and happy place to be!!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying in this beautiful house. The pictures do not do this place justice. If you like peace and quiet with only the river and birds to listen to this is your place. We sat on the porch all weekend(had exceptionally warm weather for the end of February). While visiting you must visit the little Swiss-German town of Helvetia and eat at the Hutte Restaurant. It is a magical experience while the town has such a neat history. The Buchannon River cottage is always very clean and comfortable to stay at. The sleeping quarters can fit up to 10 comfortablly with other couch and floor space if needed. The kitchen is very well stocked and you pretty much just need to bring food to cook. We did not use the grill but it is there on the porch if needed. Once again a fabulous place to stay especially if you are looking for peace and quiet. Thanks again for an unforgettable stay.

The house, the river, the train - all great!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at the Buckhannon River cottage in October of 2016. Five adults and 5 children and we had plenty of room. The house had everything we needed for a family vacation/reunion. We enjoyed most of our meals outside - the deck is wonderful!! We were even able to take advantage of the river - slow current and crystal clear. After the initial shock of the train (the tracks are rather close to the house), it was great fun. Our last night we all gathered outside waving, cheering and encouraging the engineer - not sure he was impressed, but we had a great time!! Two of our families came from New Mexico so we truly enjoyed the fall colors. If we have the opportunity, we would certainly make reservations again.

Ok experience.

We rented this cabin at the last moment to go skiing at Snowshoe. We liked that the home was roomy and that it had 3 bathrooms. Using different apps to get directions in that area can be a little challenging especially when you are driving a minivan and it sends you on dirt roads (Waze worked best). Yes we did get stuck but that was one part the kids loved the most. Another reason we chose to rent this place was to get to experience some snow and boy did we. What normally took us an hour and a half it ended up being almost 6 hours to get back (had chains on). It snowed about a foot in less than 24 hrs.

When we first arrived at the home we could tell that it hadn't been swept for a while because there were dead ladybugs everywhere on the floor, countertops and beds. These things kept coming out the whole week we were there but thankfully they were not in the kitchen cabinets which by the way were fully stocked. We liked having the 3 bathrooms but the instant hot water heater is not big enough to handle more than one shower running at a time. We loved the big windows overlooking the river (and all the relative's home across the river) but did not like that there were no blinds to close once it got dark outside around 5 pm. Again, these were some drawbacks but they were not that major. The one thing that I didn't appreciate was that the wifi is restricted to 250MB per day and it's only listed as a small print on a separate paper I received from the owner after I paid and if you go over that limit there is a $10 fee for an extra 250MB. This ended up being a big thing for me because I convinced my wife, which is working on finishing her PhD, to join us at the last moment because the description for this place listed that it had internet and she could do her research and write her dissertation while we were out skiing. She normally goes through gigs per day, so 250MBs didn't cut it. So my next option for her was to make my cell into a hotspot but that didn't work because there is hardly any cell service in a 15miles radius even though the description for this home lists that all cell carriers work in the area especially on the back porch. We found that only AT&T has a week signal there and calls keep dropping due to poor service. This place is great to disconnect from technology and I'm ok with that. I just don't appreciate reading one thing in the description and find out it's not the case. Overall we had a blast on the mountain skiing.
