Bring your fishing gear and try to tame one of the last wild rivers in the united states. Watch the water reports and come over when the water is high for some of the best kayaking in the world! Put on your hiking shoes and discover all that Upshur county has to offer. Begin with a walk up or down the railroad tracks that run right past Crossings Cottage. Watch for deer, small game, many varieties of birds and the occasional black bear. This is ATV country. You can bring your ATVs and ride them for hours and hours. Enjoy all of the back roads to be found in rural Upshur County. Some of the best trout fishing in the east can be found on the rivers close to the house.

A perfect family getaway

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful week! We were greeted by the neighbors who made sure we had settled in and had everything we needed. The house was clean and welcoming and wonderfully stocked with all the basics (hand soaps, cleaning products, and even bandaids), the kitchen had everything we needed (including a Keurig, which was great), the towel supply was large and the bedding was comfortable. The house has great river gear and we really appreciated all of the extra toys and games for the kids to play with. The setting is so peaceful and we all were able to really relax and enjoy ourselves. We canoed, kayaked, swam, explored the train tracks, read, and had a few classic Disney movie nights from the movie collection. We drove into Buckhannon for dinner almost every night and were surprised at how many great restaurants we found (notables: Miss Piggy, Sweet-a-licious, 88, and C.J. Maggie). The first day the neighbor's dogs did bark a bit (as I read in other reviews) but they got used to us and were fine by the second day. We really loved it here - awesome place to stay.

Great home. Great vacation.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. The house was perfect. We fished, canoed, hiked, and grilled all week. Our kids had an amazing time. My nine year old woke me up at 6:00 to go fishing. I almost cried with joy. Very little Cell service which was great. We truly got to relax and get a much needed vacation. Saw lots of deer. Highly recommend getting supplies before going to house because the closest store is at least a twenty minute drive. Also recommend using the directions provided because one of our party got lost using the GPS. Butch and Connie were very nice and welcoming. They turned us on to the sugar shack bakery where we loaded up on goods to bring home to our friends. The only complaint we had was needing another garbage can. A party of ten for week fills up the can fast . Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay. Will be telling everyone what a great place it was.

Close neighbors

  • 2 of 5

1 floor mat on each bathroom for towels. Very close neighbor with 4 dogs barking each morning for long periods of time at 7 am. Very stained worn living room leather furniture. Nice kitchen, porches on the river.

Owner's Response: Sharon, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at my vacation home. The linen closet is fully stocked with bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, and even beach towels. I wish you would have mentioned any issues to either myself or our caretaker so we could have resolved them while you were there.

It was clean, very relaxing.

Butch was very helpful and knowledgeable of what was going on in the area. Neighbors were friendly. Had a family get together there plenty of room. A bar for the toilet in the downstairs bathroom would be helpful for older visitors. Loved the place.

It was nice

  • 3 of 5

It was a very clean house. I would have felt alot more secure if their were curtains or shades on the windows. We seen someone across the river with binoculars. Other than that it was awesome. The neighbors behind the house were awesome as well. Even with the direction, was a bit hard to find. The roads had a lot of pot holes.
