Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, this beautifully appointed home awaits you. 12 sided (dodecagon) home has a 16 ft. tall ceiling with a 6' wide skylight. The house is located at an elevation of around 2800 feet offering expansive views of the southern end of the Big Island. You are about eight miles from the ocean as the crow flies.

Two bedrooms, one bath. An additional fold out couch in the living room. The house is well furnished inside with cozy warm queen sized beds. The town of Ocean View is just minutes away. Here you will find three markets, a hardware store, three gas stations, a post office, breakfast and lunch place, vet, laundromat. hair salon, bar, a great Thai restaurant and more.

Ideally located between Kona and Hilo. The house is in a very rural part of Hawaii. Kona International Airport is about an hour and a half north and Hilo International almost two hours to the east. We are one hour from Volcano.

Sights such as Green Sands Beach, Black Sands Beach, South Point, Kahuku Park, Pahue Bay, Volcano National Park, Manuka County Park, Whittington Beach Park and other attractions are all close by.

About Eric Germon

The moment I first came to Hawaii I knew I would build my home here. I love the house, the land, and all the things to do and see around the area. There is a primordial energy to the land which has always drawn me. Something about being out in the middle of the Pacific, thousands of miles from any other land mass is exciting. I love to hike the area and can be a valuable asset to you should you want to get around and see things. No shortage of things to do!

Other than that, I have a passion for couples dancing and singing. I have been a part of numerous dance performance teams. My favorites are west coast swing and nightclub two step. Most of the songs I sing are older ballads by Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis.

Why Eric Germon chose Ka'u District

When you see it you will know. It is new land trying to get started. It's memories are fresh.

What makes this house unique

Ideally located between Hilo and Kona. Closer to Kona. It's a big island. 100 miles or so across. More than you could ever see in a month. This is a quiet place. Absolutely silent often at night. Although neighbors are not abundant, there are a few and it is important to respect others at night as sound travels real far here. Great views of South Point. You can easily drive to South Point, Black Sands Beach, Ho'okena Beach Park, Whittington Beach Park, Manuka Forest Preserve and Kahuku Ranch Reserve. Great hike to Green Sands Beach and Pahue Bay. Of course, there is Volcano National Park about an hour away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Jack and Shelly were great guests. Did not hear a peep from them the entire time! If they had not paid I would not have known they were even there! The house was left in great order which is greatly appreciated!

Great location, great house, great vacation!

This unique house on the slopes of Mauna Loa is very comfortable with everything you need to relax and enjoy your Hawaiian holiday! The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well appointed, and the skylight lights the whole house with sunshine. The location between Kona and Volcano National Park gives you lots to explore with more information available in the house, provided by the owner. It is a couple of miles off the main highway, so if you want to drive into the gates of your resort and never leave the palm trees, this will not be a good fit. Eric provided excellent driving/arrival instructions and we found the volcanic area super interesting for exploration. Kilauea was erupting and provided the most awe inspiring experience ever! We explored the whole island AND relaxed every night in this welcoming home. If you are an explorer who appreciates comfort, you can't beat this!

Beautiful space to relax after Big Island adventures!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Lehua House for the first week of our honeymoon, and we could not have chosen a better location. The house is beautiful and well kept with many amenities. It sits on top of a huge lava field which makes for some breathtaking views of the ocean and exotic landscape from the porch. It is situated on a quiet hill and with the windows open you can feel the cool ocean breezes - it was the perfect retreat after hiking, sight seeing and trips to the beach. It is in a great location, about half way between Kona and Hilo, which was perfect for us because we wanted to explore as much of the island as possible, so it served as a good home base for our day trips (you will definitely need a car here!). Eric was a wonderful host and gave us plenty of excellent tips on where to eat and what to see in the area, and was very patient in answering our many questions. The Volcano and The Green Sand Beach are not to be missed! There are also plenty of blankets to keep warm on cool nights, towels and beach gear available for guests to use, which was great - especially for people traveling from the East Coast! We had such a wonderful week here and definitely recommend Lehua House for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing and beautiful space off the beaten path!

Quiet Beauty!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved our stay in Eric’s lovely home! It was quiet, calm, and had lovely views of the town below. Eric gave us great directions to the location and provided all the amenities we could need. We didn’t get a chance to use the boogie boards, beach chairs, and umbrellas, but so glad to have them there in case we wanted to. The house is beautiful and super spacious. The night sky is lovely to see and the morning cereal in the patio treated us to a lovely experience. The blankets! So soft and warm! Little details, but it really shows that Eric cares about hospitality and the experience. I had a few questions about the area and Eric gave us a long list of suggestions. Very much appreciated! Thank you Eric! Will definitely reach out if, no, WHEN we come back to the Big Island! MAHALO!

Lots of lava.

Nice house. Nice views. Cold in the mornings and late nights. Needed a little heat in the bathroom in the mornings. Driveway is hard to spot at night.

Owner was nice and communicated often. Eric was most helpful.

Owner's Response: Thanks for putting up with those tempermental solar lights at the driveway entrance! We installed new lights and all is good! I think you hit the coolest week of the year. Thanks for the tip on a bathroom heater. It's on the calendar! Otherwise I am happy you enjoyed the house!

We had a great stay, even if only a few days. Eric was very good on communicating ahead of time on everything. Directions were great, even in the dark drove right to the house. Eric also suggested places to see and do and eat. in our few days could only do a few of them, but this location was close to so many things from Volcano National Park to different beaches. Black sand beach was great to see turtles. In the evening we saw 10 on the beach. In the morning we saw none, so they probably enjoy coming up after the beach has warmed in the sun. Main problem we had was getting away from the house in the morning. So nice to sit on the lanai and enjoy the view while we had breakfast and enjoyed a nice cup of coffee. The house was well outfitted with what we needed to prepare meals. Slept really good listening to the wind blowing outside. Other than the wind it was very quite When we have more time and return to see a lot of the things we didn't have time for, will likely stay here again if available.
