About Ken W

After spending childhood vacations at both the jersey shore and the Adirondacks, I fell in love with the mountains and lakes. My friends parents had homes on Lake George and Upper Saranac. When I began looking for my weekend getaway, I did not want to travel 5 hours to the Saranac area every weekend. Lake George was only 3 hours from NJ, but the homes I could afford were on small lots with shared docks and did not offer any privacy. Venturing out from camping in Lake Luzerne one year, I had driven over to the dam and saw only that portion of the Great Sacandaga Lake, but that was all it took to peak my interest. In February 1993 after looking at just 8 homes on the Sacandaga, I knew that I had to have this home even though it was at the top end of my budget.

Ken W purchased this chateau / country house in 1993

Why Ken W chose New York

Location, Location, Location! This house is on what many locals refer to as 'The Boardwalk and Park Place of the Sacandaga' because it is on one of the very few dead end streets that front on the lake. Many Sacandaga houses are on the main road, most of which are across from the lake and on the main road, making them 'Lakefront Homes' with their own beach and dock across a busy road - not child or elderly friendly at all....this home is 'Lake Side' meaning no street to cross to get to the lake....also alot quieter and more private. This part of the lake offers deep water, which is great for boats and swimming off the dock.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Private yet conveniently located. View of the lake from the deck, living room, kitchen, and master bedroom. 50' of direct lake front on deep water with a large dock. Fire pit, patio, gas and charcoal grills, Tavern room with wet bar. Plenty of living and private space. Plenty of parking in the driveway. To get to the lake simply walk down the stairs from the front yard, or load up your ATV or car with the days supplies, and drive down the dirt lane in front of the house....Marinas close by for boat launching or rentals: 3 miles away is the Majestic Mountain Marina 518-696-3727 and 13 miles away is Edinburg Marina 518-863-8398 or for river action, whitewater rafting and kayaking, Sacandaga Outdoor Center is only 7 miles away, call them to find out current hours and rates 518-696-5710

Our family gets together for a weekend each summer. The entire clan loves this place.

They spend the entire day in the water, then sit around the fire pit at night. Great time was had by all!!!!

A fun week with our cildren and grandchildren

  • 4 of 5

The best part of the week was the lake. All could swim and we spent most of our time in the water.

The next best thing was the outside fire pit. We had a fire and s'mores every night.

The caretaker was wonderful. She answered all our questions. The outside deck was also great. We had dinner out there every night except our last.

The kitchen, though adequate was very disorganized. It was difficult to find anything. There was no cookie sheet. The house is not air conditioned and most of the time it was not a problem. Our last two days were very hot and humid. The fans helped. But it was hot.

It is not so easy to get to the lake. Down steep steps, a steep path with no steps, more steps and over some rocks to the dock. We got our exercise!

Our last night was bad. We lost electricity in a thunderstorm, which meant no fans and worse no running water. Also no means of communication. The WIFI was out. No phone service, not land line or cell. Our children took the grandchildren, left and went to a motel. My husband and I stayed the night. In the morning still no electric. It seamed most of the area was out. We had another night but cleaned up as best we could without water and left a day early.

A note: not one of the flashlights in the house worked. There were candles and I had a flashlight in my purse.

Given better weather and electricity we would have loved it.

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying at our lakehouse! We've owned it for 24 years, and there have been very few times that it was unbearably hot and humid, but it does happen. We usually take advantage of the basement being cool and hang out down in the bar and living area. I'm sorry that you found the kitchen unorganized, usually the housekeeper puts everything back in place. There are cookie/pizza sheets, either in the cabinet with the pots and pans, or in the drawer under the stove. In regards to the stairs down to the lake, we mention in the ad that there is an access road down to the lake, and advise taking all of the gear and kids or elderly guests by car and unloading there, eliminating the hill. We are in the process of getting approval to install a new ramp to the dock that would eliminate the second set of steps down to the dock and allow access to those in wheelchairs as well. We are also sorry to hear that there was a bad storm while you were there, and that power was lost. It has happened a few times, but this one must have been pretty bad, as tornadoes were reported nearby. I'm going to make sure there is a rechargeable flashlight at the house in an effort to prevent dead batteries. Hope to have you back again in the future!

Great Family Oriented Rental!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a blast the entire time we were there. Between the lake, close proximity to Lake George, and activities at the house (bar, air hockey, foosball, and games), there was no shortage of fun. We got our exercise walking back and forth from the house to the lake, but the steps and path down the hill was not an issue for anyone. Plus a huge bonus was you could drive to the dock to load/unload boating toys and other gear for the lake which honestly made it easier than normal. The parking situation was great at this house too, no shortage at all. We had single family members coming from all different areas which meant a lot of vehicles, and parking was completely a non-issue at this house which is honestly rare in our experience. The only amenity that everyone wished the house had was A/C, as even with the whole house fan, fans that were there, plus the fans we brought, it was hot on the main level from the afternoon through early evening, especially cooking dinner at night. Other than that, there was nothing more that we could have asked for. Ken thank you so much for letting us enjoy your home and thank you to Marlana the house keeper/property manager for offering to go out of her way wherever possible to make our stay so enjoyable!

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying at our lakehouse! We are glad to hear that you had a great time and hope to have you back again soon. It sounds like we had a hot summer up there, it is very unusual being in the adirondacks, but it does happen occasionally. We'll have to add a few more fans next summer just in case....

Great place for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Pine Ridge! The house was open and spacious and a great spot for our 10-person vacation. We loved the water access/dock for swimming, fishing, and sun bathing; and enjoyed the fire pit, lawn, and bar downstairs. Many bedrooms were nice for couples, as many houses have high numbers for "sleeps" but then crams several beds in one room. The kitchen was nicely stocked with basics. The housekeepers were very friendly when we met at arrival, and very helpful with last minute questions. We also enjoyed a day at Saratoga Springs. Thank you for a great weekend!

Amazing house with lots of space for the family!

  • 5 of 5

Every year a group of my cousins and I plan a long weekend away to send off the summer. This was our first time traveling to the Lake Luzerne area. From the moment we walked into the lake house, we were in love. There was plenty of space for all 10 of us to gather at the table, in the living room on the comfy couches, downstairs in the spectacular bar area, and at the dock on the water! The wrap around porch was perfect for grilling and relaxing when we needed a bit of shade. There is a downhill path to the dock area, but we found it very easy to pack up our cooler and towels in the morning, walk down, and enjoy the dock and water all day. During our stay, the area of the lake the house is on was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed swimming and lounging without any disturbance. The downstairs bar and patio area is the perfect place to unwind at the end of the day! We enjoyed singing karaoke, playing card games, and making s'mores on the fire in the HUGE fire pit. And as an added bonus, not one of us had a single bug bite!!

I truly can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this house. Ken and Marlana were easily contacted and got back to me quickly with any question I had. I recommend this house to anyone looking for a relaxing, fun weekend on the lake!

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying at our lakehouse and for the wonderful and detailed review! We've had the house for 24 years and we love it. We also have a large family, extended family, and friends, so we know just how hard it can be to find a place to accommodate a large group. Again, thanks for renting and hopefully we add you to our list of repeat guests!
