Overview

About the property

Cottage in Port Isaac, Cornwall, England - The Property Sleeps 8 In 4 Bedrooms

Geranium Cottage is truly lovely and placed in a perfect position in the heart of this historic village, away from the hustle, but moments from the little harbour, with it's lovely pub and restaurants and Port. The double-fronted cottage was built in 1760 and has 2 ft thick whitewashed walls. As you enter the cottage, you have an open-plan kitchen and dining area which has slate floors and beamed ceilings, a farmhouse table which seats 8 on one side...and a large cosy sitting room with sofa's and a log burner, with TV and video on the the other side.

Up the windy staircase there is 1 double bedroom (with TV) a twin room, a pretty bunk-bed room and a family bathroom. The top floor has a master bedroom with super-king-size bed, (with TV) an en-suite shower room, and lovely views of the village. There is a little courtyard to the front of the property which has the sun all day, room for a BBQ and table and chairs. At the end of the narrow lane is the Nathan Outlaw's Tapas restaurant, the lovely pub, several other restaurants and the Port.

About Helen Phelps-Palmer

We decided we wanted the perfect 'get-away' cottage to escape the hustle and bustle of life, a place where we would holiday with our children but also a place we would equally love going to on our own...and with our friends....in both summer and winter...and after looking for several years we stumbled upon Geranium Cottage and fell in love with it and with the charm of Port Isaac and everything that it and North Cornwall have to offer.

Why Helen Phelps-Palmer chose North Cornwall

We wanted a pretty little cottage that could fit a rather large family and a dog! Which proved quite a difficult task...especially when we had decided where we wanted that cottage to be....so when we were shown Geranium Cottage in Port Isaac, which had the 4 bedrooms.....and was pretty run down, so we could put our mark on it, we knew it was the right cottage for us. The property is in the perfect location in the village, as it is tucked away, but moments from the tiny harbour....and we love Nathan Outlaws tapas bar at the end of the road...what makes this place so special to us is that it is like coming to a different world, and each season is so different and forever changing ... when we are here we feel like we do have time to stand and stare....something which is more often than not missing from our normal lives!

What makes this cottage unique

We have fantastic restaurants...the best you can eat in, with Nathan Outlaw's Tapas at the end of our street...and his Michelin Star restaurant at the top of the village....The Krab Pot round the corner....to name but a few.... or you can have fresh fish, crab and lobster, from the Platt, caught that day which can be cooked for you if you want to eat at home....and there's also a great pub with fine ales! The Fisherman's Friends sing most Fridays during the summer on the Platt which is truly special. Geranium cottage is the perfect cottage in a great little working Port to enjoy North Cornwall from.

Immaculate home from home

  • 5 of 5

Property is immaculate with everything you'd need from day 1. Beautiful cottage in a lovely location.

Drive in is a tad hairy at times but the narrow streets are typically Cornish so to be expected. Only mini drawback was the lack of parking but this only meant a beautiful walk through port Isaac along the coast for 10 mins so all good.

Owner very helpful & responsive.

Geranium Cottage is exceptional

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th cottage in Port Isaac and although others have been lovely, this one was exceptional. It is beautifully appointed, thoughtfully equipped and the lovely welcome basket for us and the all important doggy basket and blankets for Buster, were generous additional features provided. The location is perfect, being in the village, seconds from the Platt but in a very quiet place. The cottage enabled us to have another fabulous week in Port Isaac. I am just about to book it for next year - not taking any chances.

Beautiful, fully equiped cottage

  • 5 of 5

I would like to thank Helen and her housekeeper Jacqui for their warm welcoming cottage. The basket of goodies was a lovely touch and much appreciated. The cottage was ideal, fully equipped and spacious enough for our 2 families.

The wetsuits and boards came in very useful when we went to Daymer Beach, ideal for body-boarding beginners and of course dogs!

Surfing lessons at Polzeath can be booked at Wavehunters by the slipway at a reasonable cost ,there are also some cafes there for the non-surfers.

The Golden Lion is a cosy traditional pub, with a friendly atmosphere. It has a small, inexpensive but lovely menu, (I recommend the crab salad), but the fish and chips went down well too. We also tried the Old School Hotel, the menu a bit more extensive, with a more restaurant feel.

The Doc Martin/Port Issac tour was very interesting, not only did the guide show the houses of various cast members, but he also gave some history of the village, he is also a member of the Fisherman's Friends who perform on the slipway every Friday at 7.30 during the summer, they were fantastic.

Unfortunately we didn't discover this until the day before we left, but Port Gaverne (half mile walk) was a lovely small cove, where they do kayaking and coasteering and other activities. It also has a small beach area, and a pub.

Our week went far too quickly and we were sad to leave, but I'm certain we will be back.

Just a note on the parking, we paid for the week on the day of arrival, at New Road car park, but it does mean that you will have to wait for a space when you return from your day out, we went in August and the most we waited was about 10 minutes, so not too bad considering.

Thanks again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Lisa for your review, I'm delighted you used the wet-suits etc! I shall add the Port Gaverne activities on the site (thank you) and if you were ever to come again...we have secured private parking for our guests for next year! So glad you enjoyed your week, Kind regards, Helen

Fantastic week in Port Isaac

  • 5 of 5

Our party of two families (including a dog) stayed at Geranium Cottage for a week in August 2016.

The cottage is extremely comfortable and has everything you need to relax. There was plenty of space - we all sat round the table at meal times and on the settees in front of the TV to watch the Olympics after a day out.

It was great being so close to the centre of the village, meaning it was really easy to wander to the fishing harbour, shops, pub and restaurants. Be prepared for a 10 mins uphill walk to the car park or the well stocked Co Op, but this helped to get the exercise levels up and wandering through Port Isaac is very pleasant in any case.

Overall it provided an excellent base from which to explore. We had a fantastic week and would all thoroughly recommend it.

Fantastic property, great location

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed a fantastic week at Geranium Cottage in Port Isaac.

The house is very comfortable with everything you could need for a holiday with comfy beds, warm showers, a selection of games & books and also bodyboards / wetsuits / crabbing equipment all provided as well.

The cottage is a 2 minute walk from Port Isaac harbour, and the whole village is very dog friendly.

We would definitely recommend both the village and the property, and we are already considering a return trip.
