3 bedrooms - main on first floor/second and third on second floor

Inside the walls of fortified village in Haut Verdon

Accommodation over three floors - kitchen and living room on ground floor. There is a washing machine and TV in the living room, a toilet on first floor next to main bedroom and toilet + shower/bath on second floor next to 2nd and 3rd bedrooms. There is a wood burning stove in the living room and an internet router which provides Wi-Fi to multiple devices.

Near ski resort (Val d'Allos) in the winter - buses run daily to and from the train station and ski resort

Near swimming pool and tennis court in the summer

There is a park in the village and a hotel and grocery store. There are also two bakeries, a tourist information office, a butcher, a newsagent, several restaurants, an estate agent and a church. Busy in the summer from May to September and in the ski season from December to April and quiet the rest of the year.

Beautiful countryside. There is a river (Verdon) running through the village and a waterfall within walking distance of the village.

Trees are juniper and pine and there is a strong liqueur made from the juniper berries (genepi).

Markets visit the village weekly selling local produce, artefacts, mattresses, clothes ...

About Ronald Barnett

I am a teacher of English to foreign students and originally come from Glasgow, Scotland but haven't lived in the UK for several years. I am currently working at a university in the UAE and living in Melbourne, Australia. I am married and have two sons aged 20 and 22. We like to visit the property at least once a year at Easter time and, if we can, at other times.

Why Ronald Barnett chose Alps Valleys - Barcelonnette

I visited the area on holiday many years ago and fell in love with it - the mountains, the river, the clean air, the Provence light.

I kept trawling the internet and this property came up for sale, advertised by a British family who wanted to move their holiday home inland.

What makes this house unique

Generally, the village is very quiet and when you close your eyes and sleep at night you can hear nothing, absolutely nothing, not even a dog bark. The silence is only broken on the hour by the peel of a church bell.

After some time in the area, I feel as if my lungs and mind have been cleaned and purified.
