About Carole and Bob Combs

We have lived in Arizona since 1974 and in Greer since 1990. The property the cabin sits on was purchased in 1988. Bob has built cabins in the area and he built Greer Pines Cabin in 2004. The cabin shows his attention to detail and desire to produce a quality cabin. Bob, in retirement, loves refurbishing old cars. He has a Model A in beautiful, driving condition. You are likely to see us in and around Greer in the Model A. Right now he is working on a '53 Buick.

Carole likes to quilt and sew for grandchildren. When we have time we enjoy going to Big Lake with our boat and do some 'serious' fishing.

We still go into the forest and cut our own wood supply in the autumn. Also, it is an annual event for us to get our Christmas tree off the forest (with permit in hand, of course).

Carole and Bob Combs purchased this cabin in 1988

Why Carole and Bob Combs chose Arizona

We love Greer for it's uniqueness. Folks are friendly here and it is the perfect get-away for some and we are fortunate to be able to live here year around. We like its proximity to Hall Creek where hiking is wonderful. There are no trails - we make our own. We are also a short way from Greer Lakes.

What makes this cabin unique

The proximity to Greer Lakes, US Forest Service land with many hiking trails, fishing opportunities and wildlife viewing is the reason people like to come here. State Route 373 ends at the south end of Greer. That is where the the Little Colorado River begins.

Great get away!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful cabin! My husband and I took a break from the real world and took our young son up to this cabin to enjoy the cooler weather. It was amazing! We played in the grassy area in front of the cabin, enjoyed the porch swing, and did some hiking. I highly recommend this cabin rental!

Great Cabin Experience for First-Timers!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are normally tent campers, so this was our first time staying in a cabin. We were not disappointed. The Greer Pines Cabin was perfect! It was well built, nicely decorated, and very clean. Carole and Bob (owners), along with the VRBO site made the rental process very smooth. We had never done this before, so we were pleasantly surprised.

During our three-night stay, we used the cabin as a base for our exploration of the area. Fall is our favorite time of year up in that area. It's beautiful and there aren't too many people. We explored eight different lakes, drove down to Alpine and Hannagan Meadow, saw plenty of wildlife (deer, elk, big-horn sheep), and had some really yummy breakfast at the Rendezvous Cafe in Greer.

We definitely recommend Greer Pines Cabin to anyone looking for a quiet getaway to the high-country, and we would love to stay there again when we get the chance.

Owner's Response: Bob and I are so happy you were able to see so much wildlife plus the beautiful fall colors. The aspens are so gorgeous this time of year. Actually, we are certainly partial to Greer and think all four seasons are wonderful in their own way.

Clean and comfortable cabin

  • 5 of 5

Stayed 3 nights at the Greer Pines Cabin and had a really nice visit. Everything you need is supplied there (even Directv, phone and wifi) and the owner's are very nice and helpful. Trails are just down the road along with lakes, streams and the town of greer. When we come back we will definitely check here first.

What a perfect getaway cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time renting a cabin and we were impressed upon arrival. This is a very cozy and comfortable cabin with everything you would expect. The Combs keep a very clean cabin and we were delighted with the entire stay. We were bummed to go home. Their cabin is literally minutes from Greer reservoirs and not too far from Big Lake. We will be back.

Very pleased with our accommodations

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was everything it said it was. Absolutely delightful cozy place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful with wonderful accommodations. The cabin was exceptionally clean, big soft bath towels, comfortable beds with lots of pillows, a great front porch for drinking morning coffee and watching deer. Everything was perfect for us. We would highly recommend this cabin. Carol and Bob were very helpful with local spots and making sure we had a great stay. Big Lake was close, rented a boat & motor for trout fishing. Had a great time at Sipe White Mountain Wildlife area, saw lots of summer hummingbirds.

There are many hiking trails in the Greer area plus many places to hike w/o trails. Butler Canyon Nature Trail is only a one mile gentle hike good for families with small children. West Baldy Trail is 14 miles & is rated moderate. East Fork Trail to Mt. Baldy (lower end) is about 6 miles long to Winn Campground. Benny Creek/Pole Knoll trails is a maze of trails that is used for hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter.

Fishing: There are three reservoirs in the Greer Recreation Area, Bunch, River, and Tunnel Reservoirs. Also the Little Colorado River runs through Greer. Apache, Brown & Rainbow trout species are in the reservoirs and the Little Colorado River.

If you want to come and relax there is ample opportunity to do that. Butterflies, birds, and wildlife are abundant and just relaxing and watching is an enjoyment. Deer, antelope, bear, mountain sheep & elk are within view often, perhaps bear not so often though.

During winter months snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding and other activities are fun for all. Sunrise Ski area for downhill skiing is just a short distance from Greer Pines Cabin.

Sunrise Park now has a zip line. According to their online information there is a series of 6 zip lines, over one mile long. They also have chair lift rides for summer rides up the mountain with a restaurant at the top of the ride or just to walk around at the top. Sunrise Park information page says "Take a round-trip ride, or hop off at the top of Sunrise Peak and enjoy the spectacular views of the Arizona White Mountains for a perfect picture opportunity." Sunrise Park is just 11 miles from Greer Pines Cabin.

During the autumn the turning of the aspens is a favorite sightseeing activity.

In case you have an illness, Springerville/Eagar areas have excellent clinics and a hospital, White Mountain Regional Medical Center. That community is approximately 15 miles away.

Greer has a fire department with an EMT on duty.

The area is so quiet that our nephew from a city asked for a fan so he could have 'noise'. It was too quiet for him!!! Fan is provided now but hopefully you will enjoy the quiet. The night sky is so beautiful you will want to sit outside for a time and enjoy those stars, Milky Way and moon.
