Large One Bedroom Apartment With A Bonus Room (sleeps 4)
About Mike York
I bought this historic property in 2010 and have been working to upgrade it over the years. I was born and raised in the St. Louis area and enjoy getting out and about in the city by foot, bike and car. Most of my vacations are spent in the mountains either skiing or down-hill mountain biking. I prefer using VRBO for my vacations and have used my experiences to help shape my own. Feel free to ask me for recommendations of good local eats and key attractions on your visit.

Why Mike York chose Southwest Garden
I bought this building because it is in a quiet, safe, and historic neighborhood. The centrality of the location allows you to drive, walk or bike easily around the city.

Perfect for our weekend getaway!
The place was perfect for me, my wife and son. We were all able to be together yet able to not be cramped up like you would be in a hotel room. Very clean. Also saw a previous post about the air conditioner not being able to keep the place cool. I’m a very hot natured person and it it stayed around 90-95 degrees out the whole time we were there, and never had a problem. Floors are a bit squeaky, which is to be expected in a building of that age. Overall would definitely recommend and likely to use if we come stay in STL again!
Meet me in St. Louie
Run, don’t walk—This is the PERFECT location for all that is St. Louis. Quiet, safe—CLEAN! Our two boys (ages 7 and 2) loved this apartment. There are games and a DVD player! Right around the corner from The Hill which has fab Italian food-right by the MO Botanical Gardens!! This property does not disappoint. We did run out of TP (ha!!) but it was our last night!! Onsite laundry was great-we did a load each night and are coming home with no dirty clothes (except the ones on our back!) This was our first VRBO experience and Mike had detailed information and everything was super easy! Thanks for a great stay! We left a little piece of our hearts there! <3 You will too.....
I'm glad I found the space for the weekend. It was super nice
This property is very livable, clean and enjoyable. The owner kindly located a city map for us when we inquired and on 2 other occasions, immediately returned texts. We had no issues and that made for a very pleasant stay. We would return here if again in St Louis.
Thank you for taking the time to review my property. I welcome you back anytime you are in the Saint Louis area.
Good Location - Okay Amenities
Overall the stay was fine and it served its purpose for our quick weekend trip. Mike was quick to respond and left clear and very detailed instructions on what to do and how.
We have stayed in St Louis in much nicer properties for the same average cost, but this was a last minute book. The location is close to everything. 15 min drive to the Cardinals stadium. Everything was clean. However, this is an older property with some very odd smells inside. The property does not get very cool if you’re a stickler for cold air conditioning at night. The bed could use an upgrade, as it has a “rolling” sense because either side is worn. The parking is very crowded and this unit is located up two sets of stairs.
Overall, I would stay in the area again, but would choose a more renovated property with nicer amenities for our next family visit.
I am really sorry this guest did not enjoy there stay in my property, this is the first I am hearing about any of this. I provided exactly as advertised and I am unsure what would have given this guest the impression that my property was modern, I feel my description and 50 pictures show that this is a historic building located in a historic neighborhood. While the building has had many modern updates such as electric, plumbing, windows, HVAC and much more, it still retains it's original floor plan, stain glass windows, woodwork, wood floors and steal bathtubs. I do not believe the building has any kind of old smell to it unless they are referring to the Murphy Oil I use to mop the floor each time a guest departs, that smell reminds me of my grandmothers house. The bed is only a couple years old, I inspected it and I don't believe it to be worn out at all or even showing any signs of wear. The AC blows very cold and when I got this apartment back from this guest it was 68 degrees inside, I don't know how much colder one could want it!! As advertised the parking is on the street in front of the building. There is plenty of parking for everyone on this block but like most large cities you will most likely have to parallel park. As advertised this apartment is a second floor walk up. I have two other identical apartments in the same building on the first floor available as well. I find it a little unfair that I got a three star review as it is clear this guest did not read my description of the property or review the pictures before making their reservation.
Great stay for graduation
Wonderful, quaint apartment perfect for a small family. Friendly owner. Clean, quiet, and minutes away from everything in St. Louis. Will stay here again when we are in St. Louis!
