Large One Bedroom Apartment With A Bonus Room (sleeps 4)

The Southwest Gardens Apartment is a large one-bedroom, one-bathroom home with a bonus room located just one-block west from the Missouri Botanical Gardens, three-blocks north of the historic Tower Grove Park and less than a mile from the Hill neighborhood. This apartment comes with everything you would need for daily life and comfort. I have laundry machines located in the basement, WiFi and a fenced back yard for your enjoyment. This apartment can sleep up to four guests: one king-sized bed and one twin bed with a trundle twin bed with linens. The building is located in the heart of the city, making it a perfect location for getting out and about in St. Louis.

FAQ:

Q: Will you take a single night reservation?

A: Only during some fall/winter months, on NYE, or if it is a last minute reservation (call me for single day last minute reservations, I have to enter them manually)

Q: How far are you from downtown St. Louis and the Edward Jones Dome aka America's Center?

A: 5-6 Miles or about 10-12 minute car ride depending on where you are going.

Q: Is there public transportation close to the apartment?

A: Yes there is a bus stop one block away. However St. Louis is a car city and there is usually free parking or at the most $5.00 parking in most areas.

Q: When can I check in and how do I get the keys for the apartment?

A: You can arrive anytime after 3:00pm. I can do earlier check in times for no extra charge if the apartment is ready, contact me the day of your check in. There is a lock box next to the main entrance of the building with your keys inside.

Q: What time is check out?

A: (10:00am) However I can do later check out times for no charge if I do not have another guest checking in the same day. Contact me the night before you check out.

Q: Is the neighborhood safe?

A: Yes, I have been living in this building since 2009 with no problems of any kind.

Q: Where is parking and does it cost anything?

A: Parking is on the street in front of the building, it is free and there is plenty for everyone.

Q: What do you provide in the apartment?

A: Please review this entire advertisement, I am very detailed in what I DO and DO NOT provide with updated pictures of everything.

Q: Can we bring our pet if it stays in a cage, is really small, house broken or any other reason you could possibly come up with?

A: NO and if I find that you have a pet in my building I will ask you to leave and you will not get a refund. Also I live in the building so do not try to sneak one in, this includes visiting pets of local friends and family members.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: 60-days to receive a refund from me. However the website offers separate cancellation insurance that can be purchased for a small fee. You will be offered this when you make your reservation.

Q: Do you accept paypal, cash or paper check?

A: No, I accept payments through the website in the form of credit card or E check.

Q: Will you waive the service fee and/or cleaning fee?

A: The service fee is charged by the website, I have no control over this fee and I do not get it. NO I will not waive the cleaning fee.

Q: Are large parties allowed?

A: NO, the apartment has a maximum limit for the amount of guest that can stay. Family and friends are welcome to visit but nothing excessive. This includes family reunions, children's birthday parties, retirement parties, adult birthday parties, ETC.

If there is anything at all wrong with your apartment or something that needs to be addressed during your stay please contact me. I live in the building and can take care of any needs you might have at a moment’s notice.

About Mike York

I bought this historic property in 2010 and have been working to upgrade it over the years. I was born and raised in the St. Louis area and enjoy getting out and about in the city by foot, bike and car. Most of my vacations are spent in the mountains either skiing or down-hill mountain biking. I prefer using VRBO for my vacations and have used my experiences to help shape my own. Feel free to ask me for recommendations of good local eats and key attractions on your visit.

I bought this building because it is in a quiet, safe, and historic neighborhood. The centrality of the location allows you to drive, walk or bike easily around the city.

What makes this apartment unique

Location, location, location. The apartment is just one-block west of the Missouri Botanical Gardens and three-blocks north of Tower Grove Park. You can walk to several restaurants, shops, parks, the Missouri Botanical Gardens, grocery stores and so much more. Some of the close by neighborhoods that you can walk or bike to include: South Grand, The Hill, Tower Grove South, Shaw, Central West End & The Grove. Also, you have easy freeway access to 64/40, 70, 55 and 44.

Perfect Location

Mike's apartment had everything we needed for a week's stay in St. Louis. Loved his large "live" plants and books on St. Louis history. The living space was great for 4 with all the kitchen, bath and bedding we needed. The location was perfect for all your St. Louis activities. The apartment was clean and well decorated. An extra plus was having the availability of the laundry downstairs. Would love to stay here again in the future.

Clean and Cozy

My husband and I along with our two kids (6 and 19 months) were able to stay for a three day weekend recently. We found the place very clean and organized and ready for us to make it our own for the few days we were there. I loved having the extra towels and blankets because it just started to cool off for fall and having the trundle bed for our daughter worked out perfectly. Our son was still using a Pack-n-Play which we kept in the bedroom where we slept. Having the coffee maker was a bonus to help us get out on our daily sight-seeing awake and ready. The family room, while small, was just the right size, especially since we did spend the majority of the day away doing the tourist thing. I would recommend staying there again the next time we are in the St. Louis area.

Convenient location

PROs: Property was conveniently located to the university I was visiting for a few days. Neighborhood was pretty and reasonably quiet for being in St. Louis. Everything in the apartment was well-organized and it was very well-stocked with everything you would need for an extended stay, i.e., dishes, cleaning supplies, linens, etc. Bathroom was immaculate and kitchen was clean. Internet worked very well for the high bandwidth projects I had. Process for checking in and out was easy and owner always responded promptly if contacted. Owner worked with me and allowed an early check in to accommodate my schedule.

CONs: Sofa and love seat were dirty--they needed a good vacuum and shampoo or at least slipcovers. I just used extra linens to cover them. It seemed as if the apartment had been either vacant awhile or had not been given a good cleaning because all the curtains and blinds had lots of accumulated dust, as did some of the furniture. It is a very damp apartment, even when I ran the fan constantly. This was more than a minor inconvenience when I discovered all the clothes I hung in the closet smelled musty the next morning. Some of the kitchen flatware and utensils were dirty and needed to be washed before I could use them. Someone else's clothes were in one of the dresser drawers. Every minute spent at the apartment was busy with school projects, so I didn't have time for someone to come in and address these issues at that time. A good walk through before my arrival would have found them so they could be addressed before I checked in.

If a convenient location, basically nice place, and hands-off owner works for you, then this place is a good fit. If you want a well-appointed place that you can bring friends and family to or entertain clients at while on a business trip with a warmer, more hands-on style owner, this may not work as well.

Owner's Response: This review is a bit extreme and has some false statements in it, please read my other 40+ reviews to get an idea of what my property truly has to offer. I have never had a guest stay here and make these types of claims or complaints, and I've been doing this since 2012. Also to call me a hands off owner is just false, this guest never contacted me while they were here about any of this. I live in the building and manage the property by myself, I am available at a moments notice to address any issues. I do not contact or bother my guest during their stay unless absolutely necessary but if you wish to contact me I welcome it and I am always available to help out with any problems or to give tips on STL. My building is definitely not a "damp" building. This is a second floor apartment and STL is a humid city. If you are not running the AC when it is warm out the apartment will get humid, just running a fan does not take moister out of the air. I checked the closets and there does not appear to be any signs of moister or a smell of any kind. As for the dusty items mentioned, I think this guest is being extreme, the apartment is not dusty at all. The couches are a bit old and faded from the sun but definitely not dirty (New couches coming 2017). I deep clean things like curtains and behind furniture every few months. I always clean the whole apartment including dusting the furniture after each guest. Before my guest arrive I always do a walk through, turn on the HVAC and turn on the hall lights. Clearly this time while rushing to get the guest checked in early I missed a drawer that a previous guest left some clothes in, that was my mistake and it has now been corrected.

Great Location!

We came to drop our son off at Washington University and the location could not have been more convenient. The unit was clean and well maintained. It was perfect for a couple but I would not recommend more than two people. The price was great as it was half what we would have paid for a hotel and we had all the amenities of home.

Perfect Location

We stayed here for a full week and couldn't have been happier! It was close to everything and in a safe neighborhood. The 'extras' Mike provided such as linens, travel size toiletries and even paper products made our stay that much better (and required us to have to less to pack which is always a plus!) The place was a perfect size for our little family of four. Extremely clean and well kept, we would definitely stay here again.
