About the property

Idyllic lakeside country estate to unwind, swim, fish, kayak, bike and hike!

Our picturesque 100 year old Victorian country home is located in the Hudson Valley all on 11 acres, with a breathtaking view of the 125 acre Stissing Lake at the base of Stissing Mountain.

The property includes a main house with 6 bedrooms, 4 1/2 baths plus an additional 2 bedroom 2 bath guest cottage (available separately).

This is our home not a fancy relais chateaux property. It is not a 'rental property', but it is an extremely comfortable country home decorated with antiques we've collected over the years, a fabulous restaurant kitchen and a spectacular one of a kind lake/mountain view.

Stissing Lake House has personality with an incredibly stocked kitchen for serious cooks. We use the main house many weekends in the summer and occasionally rent it out to guests. We will also consider a swap for a like property in the islands.

The 2 bedroom, 2 bath guest cottage is also available as an additional rental - it is separate located down the driveway. Please see Property #3660393. Guest cottage has hardwood floors, country kitchen, 2 baths (one with claw foot tub). One bedroom has a double bed, the other bedroom has twin single beds.

Rental package includes use of 3 kayaks, a canoe, fishing rods, swimming platform, dock, 5 adult bikes, 2 children's bikes, wonderful swing set.

Main house: 6 Bedrooms, 4.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps maximum of 14;

Cottage available separately: 2 bedrooms, sleeps 4

Fun on the water!

What a great time swimming, kayaking, fishing, etc. We were a group of around 10, including small children and the house easily accommodated everyone. The lovely house is situated right on the lake and could not have been more tranquil. A giant bonfire, BBQ, smores and stargazing at night complemented the daytime activities on the water, the hiking up Mt. Stissing, as well as the excursions to Rhinebeck and environs. Pine Plains is super quaint with some great restaurants and markets and wine shops. Mostly we enjoyed whiling away the days on the porch and the hammock, the cool breeze coming off the lake while the kids played on the lawns and in the water. We cooked up a storm in the commercial-grade kitchen.

Do understand that the house is not new and as such lacks certain mod-cons, but to us this only accented the charm. Suggest a deep cleaning throughout before the busy season next summer as there is some accumulation. Otherwise we were smitten and hope to return!

The beginning of our 50th wedding anniversary year celebration at Stissing Lake House was wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We brought our four chlidren and their children (19 of us) from California to Pine Plains where I grew up to jump start our special anniversary year. The Stissing Lake House and it's guest house were perfect. Antoinette was most gracious and accommodating! Everyone had such a great time with the provided bikes, boats, fishing poles, etc. Hiking, swimming, boating followed by relaxed early evening cocktails lake front or on the lovely wrap around porch, followed by dinner al fresco was magical. Thank you Antoinette😘򖀬

Three-generation Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a long weekend, with two grandparents, four parents, two toddlers and two infants in tow. Upon arriving, we quickly made a sweep of the house, stowing table-top breakables out of the kids' reach. As you can see from online photos, the house is a gracious, old Victorian. It is also very kid and family-friendly, with plenty of space for everyone to unwind. The young parents, from Manhattan and Brooklyn respectively, took advantage of the outdoors, bicycling the back roads, climbing Stissing Mountain, jogging, kayaking and swimming. The toddlers especially enjoyed the swingset and expansive lawn. In the evenings, we ate family-style in the dining room. A very pleasant experience overall.

Great experience!

  • 5 of 5

I rented the main house and cottage for a big family reunion and it was really ideal - the wraparound porch is amazing as it overlooks the lake, the kitchen is great for cooking, and the home is beautifully decorated and as advertised. Antoinette was also great - I would highly recommend this property!

Family Birthday Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I utilized this beautiful property for my 30th Birthday for family and friends. We had an AMAZING trip and Antoinette was so helpful. Throughout the experience, she was always available to answer any questions and very punctual. The house is right on the water with great water activities and swimming, biking, hiking and anything else you can think of. My group attend a polo match at a nearby country club, which was a perfect trip, only 5 mins away. For my trip, the major hit was the kitchen. If you love to cook, as my family does, you'll fall in love with the kitchen. It's restaurant quality and helps when entertaining large groups. All in all, we'll definitely stay at this house again as its perfect for anything you'd like when needing some rest and relaxation.
