We feel in love with the property and decided we must buy it. It is a very historic townhouse well preserved and just beautiful.
Our townhouse is the 'best preserved home in New York' and the greatest attraction for vacationers, heritage tours movie sets and pictures!
Sara & JJ were very helpful. The bedroom & location were exactly as we expected & perfect for what we needed. Thank you.
Sara and her family were warm and inviting! The property is right around the corner from the train station and our room was gorgeous.
This was our first visit to New York so we were a little nervous about the trip. Sara and her family were so welcoming and full of helpful tips. The home was beautiful, comfortable, and so convenient to the subway. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again if we are ever in the area.
I had the pleasure of staying with Sara and her family for a two month period while I was in NYC for work. The entire experience exceeded my expectations in every regard. Of course, the property is beautiful, but what really sets this rental apart is that Sara and her entire family go out of their way to make you feel at home.
In regards to more specific details that other travellers may be interested in, the residence is a 10 minute walk to Columbia-New York Presbyterian Hospital, and 1 minute walk to the subway which will get you right downtown to the more "touristy" destinations in around twenty minutes. Furthermore, the area has plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, laundry mats, and anything else you could need for a short or long stay.
I highly recommend this property to anyone coming to Manhattan for work or holiday. Thanks again Sara for the wonderful time. We will be back!
The "Garden Room" was the perfect "home base" for a 55+ couple. The ground-level entrance with bath and access to the family kitchen on the same level was perfect for me, since I use a cane. The room was charming and comfortable, carefully restored to this brownstone's late 19th century era. While this home is not air-conditioned, the basement level and thick walls made it naturally cool, and a fan was provided for comfort even during 85 degree days. With a subway station a few minutes' walk away, we had easy transportation to see all the sights from the Cloisters to Battery Park. But the best part of staying with Sara & Jean-Jacques was their lovely extended family, who all made us feel very welcome. The Jumel Mansion around the corner features a lovely garden. We also recommend Chez Lucienne in Harlem for a wonderful French dinner, and Pellegrino's on Mulberry St. in Little Italy for fantastic pasta.
I generously recommend staying at townhouse436. My husband and I stayed in the “Garden Room” for a seven day vacation. The owners, Sara and Jean-Jacques, were perfectly friendly and accommodating. We also had the good luck to meet some of their wonderful extended family.
The location had the perfect balance of convenience to Manhattan and the privacy to relax after a busy day. The location is incredibly convenient for getting to anywhere on the west side of Manhattan using the Subway C stop less than 3 minutes away from 436 W162 St. There is also a convenient and nice laundry called “Bubbles R Us” at the intersection of W 162nd and St Nicholas Ave (near the same subway entrance). The block of W 162 Street was quiet and friendly.
The nature of the accomdations were well suited for our vacation. The room is on the first floor with its own street entrance. The kitchen and closet can be directly accessed from within the “Garden Room". The bathroom is down the hallway on the first floor.
