We feel in love with the property and decided we must buy it. It is a very historic townhouse well preserved and just beautiful.
Our townhouse is the 'best preserved home in New York' and the greatest attraction for vacationers, heritage tours movie sets and pictures!
We enjoyed meeting and associating with the owner and her family. We had everything we needed and the proximity to the subway was a definite plus as well as proximity to supermarket, restaurants, and post office. Access to wifi and kitchen another big plus. Would definitely recommend for anyone who will be out most of the day touring and enjoying NYC and surroundings!
What an amazing place: a perfectly-kept stately walk-up circa 1870s has all the original woodwork, tile, wall-fabrics, pocket doors, brass work, gas lamps [invisibly converted to electric lights], fixtures, and parquet floors.
The room is large and on the ground level; the owners inhabit the other three stories, but Sara [who was delightful] generously took us on a tour through the main house.
The large bedroom could sleep two couples or a family of four, if they really get along well. 😉The WC is down the corridor, but not shared with the owners [and there are no other rentable rooms], so available 24/7.
The location is fantastic; doubly so for anyone put off by mid-town's unrelenting razzmatazz and/or nearly-lethal hipness of the Village/ABC/Bklyn. The apartment sits in a quiet uptown neighborhood literally 500 feet from the oldest house on Manhattan Island: the Jumel mansion - temporarily George Washington's base of operations during the war - in part because it is also the highest ground.
The convenient "C" Line subway has a station one block away, making it easy to get anywhere in town [and Brooklyn].
Absolutely splendid and hope to return!
This was a perfect location for me, but also lovely acccomodations, a friendly and kind family and I felt as though I was at home. Thanks Sara, for a lovely comfortable stay.
This was our second stay here and it's one we will come back to. Location is very good for accessing NYC; subway is close. Nice quiet neighborhood; comfortable bed--what more could you want? Short walk to variety of options for breakfast, and presumably lunch. We were traveling and visiting around the city so this was a great choice for us.
We loved it here. A comfortable bed in a large, pleasant room. We could share the kitchen with Sara & Jean-Jacques and never got in each other's way. They are both very nice & went out of their way to help us.
Just a 100 yards from the subway (C-Train) & half an hour to Times Square. Nice park near by & supermarket. Also discovered some nice restaurants (our favourite was Bono Trattoria - about 1 km away).
We'll come here again.
