About Bob Mathews

We retired, fell in love and found our paradise in Steinhatchee.

Bob Mathews purchased this condo in 2014

Why Bob Mathews chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

We wanted the best location to allow us to immediately get to the Gulf and this is the only place that has immediate access without having to stay in a wake zone and have boats all around.

What makes this condo unique

Walk to the dock and board YOUR boat. No waiting in line at the public boat ramp. No long lines of boats in the wake zone-just jump in and go. A place to clean your fish or scallops, a pool to cool off after a long day in the sun and stunning sunsets to watch from the comfort of your own condo and balcony. Big enough for family and friends or perfect for two people just trying to get away from it all.

Relaxing Stay

  • 4 of 5

We planned this trip to see an area we had never visited and to get away from the stresses of everyday life. A hurricane hit this area on the day before we arrived but after finding out the complex had electricity we decided to go once the roads were clear and I am glad we went. The condo has everything you need and was clean and nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable and the view is very calming siting on the balcony. The master bedroom has a beautiful bathroom with both a large tub and a large walk-in shower. The other bathroom is also a nice size. The living room is great because it has plenty of sitting room and a nice TV. We spent most of our time sitting on the balcony enjoying God's beautiful handiwork. Because of the hurricane most of the restaurants were closed because they were damaged but with the great kitchen in this condo it was easy to make our meals and enjoy them on the balcony. We will likely return to this area in the future. There are boat slips at this location and a boat ramp. There is also a swimming pool.

Great Views

  • 4 of 5

Just returned home from a wonderful 5 day vacation. The views were wonderful, great location being at the end of the channel. One downside was the grill was unusable due to being rusted out, but that gave us an excuse to try out the local restaurants, loved Roy's and Fiddlers ! Will be back again next year !

Scallops, peace, and fun

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful condo, location is extremely peaceful: outside the main river and 5 minutes to the gulf. Morning view with coffee is so relaxing, watching the boats as they go out, and the Sunset views with wine are just beautiful! We have scalloped off and on since the mid 1980's and still enjoy this sport!

Would have reserved this condo for next July, but it was already reserved!

Beautiful view and great location!

  • 4 of 5

This was our third year scalloping in Steinhatchee and we really enjoyed staying at this property for our short stay. The location is perfect and the view of the salt marsh at sunrise and sunset is spectacular. We were two families of four and found the common area and outdoor deck spacious and adequate for all of us. The kitchen had the amenities we needed and was easy to use. Our friends had the master bedroom and bath which they enjoyed. We stayed in one of the two extra bedrooms and "slept" on a hard double mattress with a noisy fan in a warm room. The difference in comfort between the master and second bedroom is huge and my husband and I found ourselves going into the kids room to sleep on the Queen bed in there that was much more comfortable. The third bedroom, where the kids slept, has a single bed and a bunk bed with a single above a queen. As mentioned the queen was much more comfortable; however, there is not enough room to get out or place the trundle that is under the single bed in that room so one kid slept on the floor. Also, note that there is no Wifi available. Since the purpose of our trip was to scallop, eat and enjoy family, Wifi was not an issue, but for some it may be.

We are in a quandary for booking next year. On one hand, this property provided the location, boat slip and common space perfect for our scalloping adventure. On the other hand, I can't imagine our tall friends sleeping on the small and hard bed next year and we'll have to figure out where to spread out the kids (who ended up sleeping on couches). If you are a smaller party, I highly recommend this property! If you are two families like us, consider your sleeping space needs and bring air mattresses.

Steinhatchee bills itself as 'the gateway to Florida’s Nature Coast,' that crook in the arm of the state where panhandle becomes peninsula and white sandy beaches give way to marsh and limestone rock. In this part of Florida, there are no man-made amusements. There are no resort towns. Heck, there aren’t even any towns! I’m kidding, of course. But beginning around St. Mark’s Wildlife Refuge due south of Tallahassee, the Gulf Coast beaches disappear. The coast becomes marshy, grassy, and brimming over with wildlife. Freshwater rivers and springs make it an angler’s dream. Traveling east on I-10, turn south onto Hwy. 19, which runs down from Georgia and dead-ends at St Petersburg Beach on Florida’s west coast. Twenty-six miles south of Perry, turn right onto Highway 51 and travel another 10 miles. Notice how the landscape changes as you travel north to south. The scrub and stands of tall pine give way to spindly palms and prairies of saw palmetto. Dense fog often shrouds the small highw
