Overview

About the property

Secluded country cottage on 15 private acres of land including a private lake.

This is a recently built cottage located on 15 private, wooded acres of land on the border of Bennington and North Bennington in Southwest Vermont. Designed and constructed by the owner and a close friend, care has gone into every detail of this beautiful and peaceful location. The property is quiet and secluded, but close to all of the local activities and attractions. The cottage sits on a private 1.5 acre pond with diverse wildlife, wetlands, waterfall and covered bridge. Open floor plan with an upstairs bedroom that overlooks the lake. It can accommodate an additional two guests with a downstairs sleeper sofa. Our home is about 200 yards away, across the pond and stream, but blocked from view most of the year by foliage.

We are located within 30 minutes of multiple regional attractions which include Williams College, Williamstown/North Adams museums, Manchester Center, the Green Mountains and Woodford State Park, and historic sites within Bennington itself. We are walking distance from grocery and Bennington College, and less than 3 miles from village shops and the Bennington Monument. It is also a short drive to several local ski and summer-sports resorts.

The cottage offers every modern amenity - a full kitchen, outdoor grill, cable, WiFi, living/dining area and large porch. Stairs lead to a second floor loft-style bedroom which overlooks the first floor and lake via a large picture window (note that the bathroom is downstairs). This was designed as a luxury accommodation for a romantic weekend getaway, but could easily accommodate up to four with use of a sleeper sofa. There is simply no other vacation home of this quality and character in Southern Vermont.

About Adam Cohen

Adam and Beverly Cohen moved to Bennington in 2004 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for work at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Adam is originally from Queens, NY and Beverly is originally from Newcastle, Pennsylvania. Our main house is in a different location on the same property. We live here with our dog and have invested our lives into restoring and preserving this beautiful property.

Why Adam Cohen chose North Bennington

We fell in love with this location because while it is located close to Bennington town it is also private and quiet. The property is beautiful, featuring a large pond stocked with trout and frequented by eagles and blue herons. The outlet stream features a covered bridge and waterfall. There is a vibrant wildlife community that makes a home of the pond and adjacent wetlands.

What makes this cottage unique

I designed and built this cottage personally with a friend in 2013 to be a beautiful retreat for friends and family to come visit. In the times that we are not personally hosting, we thought that others might enjoy the use of our cottage. It is a truly unique and special location. The front porch overlooks the lake and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the evening with friends and family. While it is quiet and private, you can easily walk to the store across the street from our entrance for groceries.

Cute place, very peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is beautiful and modern and the property is gorgeous, the owners are close enough to be accessible but the area still feels very private. Also still close to town and restaurants. It rained most of our stay but we still had a great time and were cozy and comfortable. Highly recommend!

A Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Just leaving today after two weeks staying at Adam's cottage in Bennington. This location is perfect offering both seclusion and proximity to anything you might want. The cottage itself is just as decsribed and we couldn't have been happier. Adam was a great host and very responsive to the few questions we had. It has its own private entrance, and, while the main house is on the property, you can't even see it and many in Bennington have neighbors closer.

I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a romantic getaway and would definitely return here in the future. I haven't even left and am missing it already.

Peace and seclusion in beautiful Vermont

  • 4 of 5

Though it is in a suburban area, the house is in a very bucolic setting, on a beautiful pond and surrounded by woods. There is a lot to do close by: we went south to MassMoCA, and saw Shakespeare in Lenox,MA, also went north and hiked in the Green Mountains. We also enjoyed just hanging out on the porch overlooking the pond.

Beautiful

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was lovely and clean as a whistle. I was there w my 2 yo. So our days were busy taking in all the sites of Bennington and surrounding cities and traveling the byways that are a must....VT is breathtaking! I wish we were able to blow up our little boat and get out on the pond, but time just got away. Walking the property around the pond, playing in the stream and relaxing on the porch were all perfect and made my time there very relaxing. Adam and Bev are super sweet and available if needed. But truth, I rarely saw them and their home is quite a distance away from cabin that I felt secure they were there, but also very private.
