Overview

About the property

Secluded country cottage on 15 private acres of land including a private pond.

This is a newly built (2013) cottage located on 15 private, wooded acres of land on the border of Bennington and North Bennington in Southwest Vermont. Designed and constructed by the owner and a close friend, care has gone into every detail of this beautiful and peaceful location. The property is quiet and secluded, but close to all of the local activities and attractions. It features a private 1.5 acre pond with diverse wildlife, wetlands, waterfall and covered bridge. The cottage is loft style with an upstairs bedroom that overlooks the pond. It can accommodate an additional two guests with a downstairs sleeper sofa. Our home is about 200 yards away, across the pond and stream, but blocked from view most of the year by foliage.

The cottage is located within 30 minutes of multiple regional attractions which include Williams College, Williamstown/North Adams museums, Manchester Center, the Green Mountains and Woodford State Park, and historic sites within Bennington itself. We are walking distance from grocery and Bennington College, and less than 3 miles from village shops and the Bennington Monument. It is also a short drive to several local ski and summer-sports resorts.

The cottage offers every modern amenity - a full kitchen, cable, WiFi, living/dining area and large porch. Stairs lead to a second floor loft-style bedroom which overlooks the first floor and pond via a large picture window. This was designed as a luxury cottage for a romantic weekend getaway, but could easily accommodate up to four with comfort.

About Adam Cohen

Adam and Beverly Cohen moved to Bennington in 2004 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for work at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Adam is originally from Queens, NY and Beverly is originally from Newcastle, Pennsylvania. Our main house is in a different location on the same property. We live here with our dog and have invested our lives into restoring and preserving this beautiful property.

Why Adam Cohen chose Bennington

We fell in love with this location because while it is located close to Bennington town it is also private and quiet. The property is beautiful, featuring a large pond stocked with trout and frequented by eagles and blue herons. The outlet stream features a covered bridge and waterfall. There is a vibrant wildlife community that makes a home of the pond and adjacent wetlands.

What makes this cottage unique

I designed and built this cottage personally with a friend in 2013 to be a beautiful retreat for friends and family to come visit. In the times that we are not personally hosting, we thought that others might enjoy the use of our cottage. It is a romantic and private place. It has a front porch that overlooks the pond and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the evening with friends. While it is quiet and private, you can literally walk to the store across the street from our entrance for groceries, if desired. The rental also features free Wi-Fi and basic cable.

Beautiful Little Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Two years ago on a road trip to Maine we made a pit stop in Bennington and ended up spending the afternoon. We wanted to come back and spend more time. We found this wonderful little cottage on Home Away. It was pet friendly which was something we were looking for and near downtown. I don't think you can find better accommodations for the price. We loved our stay and hope to come back.

The property is beautiful. Well situated, cared for, and stay friendly.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is perfectly situated, close to plenty to do, yet isolated enough to not realize you're that close to civilization. The cottage itself is beautiful, and I definitely see a return trip in our future. The pond is well cared for, and the wildlife was great to watch with a morning cup of coffee. The only thing missing is a fire pit/ring. Can't wait to return!

We were only there for a super short stay but enjoyed the closeness to Bennington College which we were there visiting . The kitchen was great because we were able to eat in. View of the pond was a wonderful to wake up each day. Super clean !

Lovely time for a romantic birthday getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this house for my husbands birthday. We needed to get away and this place was everything we expected and more. The house is adorable and perfect for a cozy weekend in. We cooked all our meals here in their fully stocked kitchen. For being early spring the weather held out. We had fun walking around the property with our pup, and even ventured out to the college up the road. Watching the ducks in the pond with a little mood snow was so peaceful. I can definitely see how this house would be great for all seasons. I don't know if we were just completely exhausted or what? But the bed was so comfortable! We frequent to Vermont a handful of times each year. And we will definitely keep this property in mind for our next trip. Thank you so much! Val, Dan, and Luna :)

My Favorite Bennington Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This is always my first choice to stay when I'm traveling near Bennington with my dog. There's one great bed in the loft and a sleeper sofa downstairs. There's enough floor space to put an air mattress downstairs or even a twin size up in the loft. So it's ideal for a couple or a small family. Everything is clean and well laid out. The heater in the bathroom is especially nice on cold nights. The outside is wonderful to let your dog run around and work off that energy from the drive! I highly recommend the cabin and the owner is both nice and responsive.
