Overview

About the property

Secluded country cottage on 15 private acres of land including a private pond.

This is a newly built (2013) cottage located on 15 private, wooded acres of land on the border of Bennington and North Bennington in Southwest Vermont. Designed and constructed by the owner and a close friend, care has gone into every detail of this beautiful and peaceful location. The property is quiet and secluded, but close to all of the local activities and attractions. It features a private 1.5 acre pond with diverse wildlife, wetlands, waterfall and covered bridge. The cottage is loft style with an upstairs bedroom that overlooks the pond. It can accommodate an additional two guests with a downstairs sleeper sofa. Our home is about 200 yards away, across the pond and stream, but blocked from view most of the year by foliage.

The cottage is located within 30 minutes of multiple regional attractions which include Williams College, Williamstown/North Adams museums, Manchester Center, the Green Mountains and Woodford State Park, and historic sites within Bennington itself. We are walking distance from grocery and Bennington College, and less than 3 miles from village shops and the Bennington Monument. It is also a short drive to several local ski and summer-sports resorts.

The cottage offers every modern amenity - a full kitchen, cable, WiFi, living/dining area and large porch. Stairs lead to a second floor loft-style bedroom which overlooks the first floor and pond via a large picture window (note that the bathroom is downstairs). This was designed as a luxury cottage for a romantic weekend getaway, but could easily accommodate up to four with use of a sleeper sofa.

About Adam Cohen

Adam and Beverly Cohen moved to Bennington in 2004 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for work at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Adam is originally from Queens, NY and Beverly is originally from Newcastle, Pennsylvania. Our main house is in a different location on the same property. We live here with our dog and have invested our lives into restoring and preserving this beautiful property.

Why Adam Cohen chose Bennington

We fell in love with this location because while it is located close to Bennington town it is also private and quiet. The property is beautiful, featuring a large pond stocked with trout and frequented by eagles and blue herons. The outlet stream features a covered bridge and waterfall. There is a vibrant wildlife community that makes a home of the pond and adjacent wetlands.

What makes this cottage unique

I designed and built this cottage personally with a friend in 2013 to be a beautiful retreat for friends and family to come visit. In the times that we are not personally hosting, we thought that others might enjoy the use of our cottage. It is a romantic and private place. It has a front porch that overlooks the pond and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the evening with friends. While it is quiet and private, you can literally walk to the store across the street from our entrance for groceries, if desired. The rental also features free Wi-Fi and basic cable.

We loved the cottage. It was close to family and friends. The pond was super fun. The wildlife was amazing. Just bring bug spray so you can enjoy the porch and grounds!

Absolutely stunning accommodations!!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful romantic getaway, the experience made us reconsider where we live in CT. Certainly didn't want to leave. Enjoyed quiet nights overlooking the pond, days were filled with exploring Bennington. Even the occasional rain didn't dampen the mood.

Perfect Cottage for Our Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this cottage. It was very clean and just perfect for the two of us. We loved the view of the pond from the front porch. And, enjoyed the front porch ... whether having a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. This was the perfect place for our long weekend away for rest and relaxation. Adam was quick to respond to our communications throughout this reservation process. Bennington is a very quaint town and I would not hesitate to go back and visit and stay in this wonderful cottage.

The cottage is lovely, and the setting is beautiful. The place is peaceful and quiet, yet very convenient to local stores, hiking trails, and other attractions. Simply wonderful!

Very nice

  • 4 of 5

The home looked just like the pictures. It was clean and had everything one would need to cook etc. Although the bed was comfortable it felt more like a double than a queen. My husband is a tall man sleeping was a bit tight. There was a pull out sofa bed but that mattress was very uncomfortable with springs coming up in it. I also didn't realize that the one bathroom was downstairs while the bedroom was upstairs, probably not a problem for a younger couple but for an older couple like us we had to navigate those stairs a few times a night. The living space is much larger than it looked on the site which was nice. We loved the covered porch overlooking the pond. Lots of wildlife to entertain you, we loved the porch. The property is very private from the owner's home and they were very gracious with the few things we had to ask them. Adam was very nice. there was a waterfall near the house which was nice to listen to. The one thing that I didn't like was the car noise. It was not to loud but you clearly heard cars when your outside on the porch. We could have used more towels for sure, only two bath towels and two face towels. I'm sure if we asked Adam would have brought more but they should just be there for you to use.

We cooked each night, the gas grill was great we had everything needed to make our dinners which was good. We also loved the candy he had waiting for us, nice touch.

We loved sitting on the porch just having the solitude to connect again and relax which we did and enjoyed it very much.

It was exactly what we were expecting and we thoroughly enjoyed it even though it rained most of the time. We plan on coming back next year.
