A right location makes the difference when you rent a vacation villa. Just 20 minutes from Iraklio airport, tucked away on the hillsides of the northern coast of Crete, you will find the village Episkopi. Come step into another world and discover Crete the way it was - the way it is meant to be. In Episkopi people with great warmth and generosity will welcome you to Crete. This is just the right place to spend a wonderful and relaxing vacation. Tourism has hardly touched the village and “filoxenia” (Greek for hospitality) is simply the motto of Episkopi. A tradition deeply rooted in the Cretan way of life. So being a guest here will show you first hand what Cretan hospitality really means.
Away from crowded tourist centers and not far from the village square is your special hideaway. Villa Helidona is a beautifully renovated 19th century traditional Cretan stone house with a large private pool and garden. Let the atmosphere enchant you. Antique furniture, Cretan traditional furniture, original artwork and hand-woven carpets create a unique environment. This stunning and spacious home provides all the comfort you need for a great vacation.
Large private pool 13x 6 m - the pool area offers complete privacy for sunbathing and swimming. Garden with fruit trees and vegetable garden (all organic) you can help yourself to any ripe fruits or vegetables.
Be it quality time spent with your family or friends... lasting memories are made here. Isn't it time you treat yourself to a great vacation? Villa Helidona is your peaceful and relaxing vacation retreat.
We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Villa Helidona, it's a beautifully restored old stone house, every room is large and airy, and furnished to create a wonderfully welcoming home from home. The villa is spotlessly clean, with everything you could need to relax and enjoy your stay. Dimitris, your host, is very kind and welcoming, he has provided lots of information in the villa, and will answer any questions you may have during your stay. All the basics are provided in your welcome basket and the local restaurant can deliver your first night's meal of traditional food.
A perfect start to the day is a relaxing breakfast under the shade of the lime tree in the old stone courtyard, then through to the sunny pool for a swim. In the evening you can enjoy watching the swallows dipping in the pool.
The villa is on the edge of the village, so perfectly private and peaceful, but the village shops, a couple of restaurants and bars are just a few steps away. Everyone in Episkopi was very friendly and helpful.
The villa is in a great location to explore Crete, but a car is essential to see the sights - if you do use the bus, timetables show you the start of the journey only, not the times for your stop!
Villa Helidona is an amazing place and it was a total pleasure to stay there, we can't recommend it highly enough! Book now, you'll love it.
A huge thank you to Dimitris!
The property is very spacious with great facilities including a beautiful pool. There is a very peaceful courtyard at the front where we took breakfast and a great terrace at the back with plenty of tables & chairs and a super sized pool. The interior is beautifully decorated.
The villa is situated in a small village but has all the basic facilities you need and within very easy walking distance. The people are lovely and friendly and really helpful. There is a bakery which sells delicious cappuccinos and ice-cream.
The owner, Dimitris, is extremely nice and helpful and provided great hospitality on our first evening there.
The villa is also close to some amazing sites (Knossos), very easy for Heraklion and close to a great winery (Boutari).
I would very much recommend the villa to other travellers - we had a great stay and the Greek people are charming, polite and friendly.
Villa Helidona is ideal if you are looking for any of the following. First for visiting Crete’s historical sites - such as Knossos or the Heraklion archaeological museum. Second for experiencing life in a real Cretan village – we never saw another tourist in our ten days in Episkopi. Third if you like to swim – the villa pool is very large, clean and private.
The villa itself is unique, full of antique furniture and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is small but fully equipped and all other rooms are spacious. After lazing by the pool in the sun, the kitchen courtyard is a great place to cool down and enjoy a coffee. The nearest beach, 15 minutes due north, is a long narrow stretch of good sand with one or two tavernas ( and a view of flights landing at Heraklion). Episkopi has village shops for anything you are likely to need.
Dimitris is the perfect host. He welcomed us to the villa, showed how everything worked and gave tips on the area. He was then available by phone for any questions.
Three notes that may be important for some people. To reach the third bedroom, or go from there to the bathroom, you need to go through the courtyard – though it is completely private. If you have children who can’t swim you will need to be careful – the pool does not have a shallow area. A car is recommended, but you may need to park a small distance from the villa as the village streets are quite narrow.
A great villa and pool to enjoy, and to see the real and historical Crete.
Beautiful house, perfect host, lovely cretan village. Highly recommended.
Villa helidona is situated near an old church in the middle of the village Episkopi a quiet and authentic place. The villa is a world inside a world. From the moment you enter there is absolute privacy and you feel at home. You can stay for days without feeling the need to go out, there are many "corners" in the house to sit and relax in them so you can move around different areas during the day. There is a beautiful front court yard facing the kitchen and a huge back yard with a wonderful huge swimming pool, with view to the mountains.
The house itself is beautifully arranged with antique furniture and special art works. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need. The house was clean organized and very well maintained. The owner was more than helpful for every request or question we had.
The village itself is small and populated with very nice and friendly people. It is quiet yet you can find there everything you need from supermarket to pharmacy to tavern.
It's a very special and unique house, yet also very comfortable, a chance to get a taste of the true and authentic "village life" in Greece and of course the swimming pool which was unforgettable.
"We chose Villa Helidona because of its location in the Cretan hills (about 20 minutes south of the Heraklion airport and free of tourist distractions) and its Cretan-style construction and intriguing furnishings. We found even more good things about it after we arrived: an immaculate and well-supplied house, a friendly, helpful host, a relaxing patio/pool area with wonderful views of the countryside, and a large garden area with
various good things like olive, fig, citrus, and apricot trees, one heavily laden with the sweet peach-like fruit. One of us even made preserves from the huge supply of them. Yum! Our week-long vacation on Crete was made very special by our stay at the beautiful Villa Helidona. We recommend it with enthusiasm!!"
