House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)
My husband and I met for the first time years ago while traveling in Oaxaca, Mexico. Besides bestowing on me a wonderful life partner and second home, Mexico and its people have been the source of many delightful moments. We both speak Spanish and find it helpful in our work lives in the States. However, it is much more fun to travel to San Miguel with our teenage son and use our Spanish there!
Why Kal chose Rinconada de Los Balcones
I was fortunate to have amazing travel opportunities, working mostly as a volunteer in over 40 countries. I used to love going to new places practically every day and avidly avoided retracing my steps. So, after the first trip to San Miguel, I was surprised to find myself soon longing to return. San Miguel feels both comfortable and mysteriously intriguing to me. One can access sophisticated amenities or travel more ruggedly off the beaten path. Most importantly, it is incredibly easy to find people to connect with here, even if I am travelling solo. Serendipity played a part: finding the right house in the right town where they speak the right language at the right time in my life.
What makes this House unique
Since the photos and description of our casa are extensive, let me highlight the nearby Botanical Garden. It is unlike any other area in San Miguel - all natural, peaceful and with lovely walking trails brimming with native plant species. It is a gardener's paradise! There is a lovely greenhouse with amazing cacti, a reservoir with great birdwatching and an outdoor cafe. The superb staff and volunteers periodically have guided tours, yoga classes, full moon ceremonies and even outdoor concerts in the canyon. Having the Botanical Garden so close makes our casa's location in lovely Los Balcones even more appealing.

Lovely Home in a quiet neighborhood.
We had a lovely time in this well kept home. It is in a lovely safe and quiet neighborhood. Yes, it's a hike getting up the hill but as other did we just took a taxi (60 pesos) every time, but walking into town was pretty easy. We really enjoyed the beautiful flower filled garden. We cooked a lot of our own meals and found the kitchen to be well supplied with cooking utensils, pots and pans.
We loved the traditional architecture and decor.
A wonderful home for an extended stay
A very comfortable home. The private front and back yard were beautiful and very welcoming. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to cook in. The new smart television was a treat. There are also two balconies full of plants. A gardener comes twice a week and keeps the gardens, grass, and potted plants looking beautiful
We are so glad you loved your stay at Casa Del Canto. You are most welcome to come visit again! Saludos, Kal
Spacious and quiet house.
The pictures of the house are very accurate, it is a Mexican style house, with a huge kitchen. The living room and dining room are also very spacious. I loved the front and sunny back courtyard! You can leave the front and back doors open, and get some great air circulation. It was so nice to sit out in the back courtyard with my cup of coffee and relax on the lounge chair. I also loved the unusual design of the bathroom and side windows, and the fact that they actually work very well! was a plus!
The neighborhood is extremely quiet and very safe. It's a nice walk into town, and I would usually taxi home. But some people actually enjoy the walk up hill.
We really enjoyed our stay there, and would definitely go back!
OMG thanks for the sweet review. We love our casa too. You are always welcome back!
Outstanding trip to San Miguel de Allende
Unique, spacious, comfortable, well decorated casa in a safe and tranquil neighborhood. Relaxing patio in private back yard. Very friendly domestic help. The time spent here was very special for both my wife and myself. The frequent walks down to the central part of town for sight-seeing, shopping, and eating were pleasurable and invigorating. Trips back to the casa always via taxis which were easy to get and low cost.
Hello David, Thank you so much for your glowing review! We hope you return to visit San Miguel and our casa soon. You are always welcome ...
Charming and Lovely Casa!
My daughters and I came from Canada to San Miguel for the first time and stayed for a week. We were very pleased with this home and our entire stay. The house was clean and roomy and very tastefully decorated. The kitchen had everything we needed including free limes in the front yard! The garden in the back was a wonderful addition for some quiet time in the sun. The house is located in a very quiet area of the city, something that I am told is rare! It was a lovely 15-20 min downhill walk from the house into the center of town with gorgeous views all the way. We usually took a taxi back, which are very cheap, in the evenings as it is all uphill on the way back. The owner was very easy to reach and helpful with any questions. The plumbing is on a septic so care needs to be taken with certain items not going down drains but this wasn't a problem or inconvenience for us.
Thank you Kal for a beautiful home and a wonderful stay. I would not hesitate to stay again.
Thank you for being such great guests. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. You are always welcome at our casa!
Cozy House, Quiet Street
Our family of three stayed here for a week while in SMA. The house has a wonderful Mexican atmosphere, was spotless and is accurately represented by the photos. The small front and back yards were pretty and accented by pots of flowers and succulents. There are the two small balconies and while it was nice to sit out on them and read, there is not much of a view as it is blocked by other houses. We didn't actually cook while there, but the kitchen seemed to be adequately stocked for general use. Bedrooms were roomy and had good closet/storage space. The bathrooms were well stocked with plenty of towels and the housekeeper comes in on Tuesdays to wash all the linens which was a nice treat in the middle of the stay. Washer and dryer were available, but we didn't use them. The kitchen had plenty of purified water for our use.
It's a healthy 15-20 minute walk downhill into town and it's a walk we made back up only twice! However, taxis are plentiful and very inexpensive (50 pesos, fare+tip) so it was not a hassle to get home either during the day or at night. Because the house is slightly on the "outskirts" of town and in a completely residential area, it is nice and quiet and felt very safe. We even left our 14 yr old daughter home alone one morning while we went for breakfast.
The friendly housekeeper greeted us upon arrival and was there to lock up when we left. (She doesn't speak English, but my husband speaks Spanish).
The home is not luxurious and one must be willing to put up with Mexican plumbing issues (the same everywhere we went), but overall it was a comfortable place to stay and we would stay there again without hesitation.
San Miguel is a beautiful spot with friendly residents, lovely shopping and amazing restaurants. Definitely worth a visit!
We appreciate the positive feedback, thanks! We keep our casa well-maintained, lovely and comfortable for guests - and ourselves! As you mention, the casa's septic system is the norm for homes in San Miguel. It has always functioned well, and we do regular maintenance to keep it that way. When we first got the casa, I read a book about septic systems and it advised keeping stray objects from going down drains. We do that when we visit, and kindly ask our guests to do the same. Turns out to be really quite easy and straightforward. You are welcome to stay at our casa for another visit to sweet San Miguel!
