Why Cynthia and Walter Davis chose Hatteras Island

The Beach Box is located one lot from the ocean. Beach access is adjacent to the cottage with a short walk over the dunes. A great value for the location alone.

Ice Cream truck drive-by every evening in season.

What makes this cottage unique

The newly built decks allow for leisurely evenings enjoying the ocean/sound breezes. The top deck allows you to take in the beautiful night sky often catching a glimpse of a falling star. Views of the sound and ocean from the top deck.

Beach house was great.

  • 5 of 5

Beach house had everything that was needed .Didn't care too much for the outside grill. Not really made for the grilling, I like to do on vacation. I would stay there again.

Owner's Response: William, I am happy you had a good vacation in the OBX. Yes, I do understand your concerns about the grill however, due to the salt air any other type of grill would just rust. Also, the inground grill is a safety feature - grilling on the decks is prohibited. I have no objection to renters bringing their own grills as long as they do the grilling away from the cottage on ground level. Thank you for taking the time to write this review and I hope to see you back at The Beach Box soon.

Close proximity to the beach!

  • 5 of 5

This was perfect for our family- 4 adults and 3 children. The decks are really nice and the close proximity to the beach was great- 5 to 10 min walk depending on how much you're carrying and if you have small children who are walking too. Cynthia was really prompt in getting back to me with any questions I had in preparing for our trip. We had plenty of space, too. The beach was really nice- not very crowded. Salvo is a great little town, not commercialized. Thank you Cynthia for a great trip-- our first trip to the Outer Banks! We hope to return sometime.

Great vacation

  • 4 of 5

We are so enjoying our vacation. The house was very clean when we arrived. Love that it is just a short walk to the beach and conveniently located to fresh seafood market. We've enjoyed cooking seafood every night. My four legged friends love the beach in the morning and late evening.

The kitchen well stocked with anything you may need. The convenience of a washer and dryer means you don't have to bring a lot. Plenty of room in the home and the two decks are awesome. Very happy with our rental

Family Friendly Week at the Beach!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a Sunday in July and found the house to be very clean, cool and comfortable! Everything that we managed to forget to bring was available a the house for us to use...everything from coffee maker, to wine openers, to pots and pans. The bedrooms were very spacious and easily accommodated our party of 5 adults and 3 children with room to spare. Two decks made is easy to get away and have some quiet time enjoying a book, a sunset, or even a sunrise! With this house being only one lot away from the ocean, it was very accessible with the beach access path running right alongside the property. Would definitely stay at this location again!

Owner's Response: Wendy, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. You'll be happy to know that the decks were all replaced in the Fall of 2015. Hopefully, you'll be able to vacation again to enjoy those decks for a sunrise or sunset. Have a great summer and thank you.

Needs some renovation.

  • 3 of 5

My family of ten stayed here in June 2015 and found it very clean, spacious and comfortable enough for a large group. The location of the property is also nice, quiet, in a pleasant neighborhood. The home is somewhat dated and could use some renovation, though. The kitchen cabinets and drawers really need replacing. The refrigerator took 24 hours to ever get cold enough for our drinks. The rooms in the house would cool much more easily with ceiling fans. And the wicker furniture is possibly some of the most uncomfortable ever manufactured. With a little TLC, this home could really be a lot more family friendly. The distance to the beach is not a terrible walk, and the beach is actually very wide and beautiful. I would consider returning to the property after a few updates on site.

Owner's Response: Christy, I am delighted to know your family of 10 enjoyed my cottage and found it clean, spacious and comfortable. True, the kitchen cabinets are not the most up-to-date design but the kitchen is well-equipped with large counter space and modern conveniences that renters are used to in their own home kitchens. As for the refrigerator not cooling quickly enough - refrigerators take a real 'hit' on renter changeover days (see 'Shore Details' manual) with departing guests removing items, cleaners cleaning, and the arriving guests restocking warm items into the refrigerator - it can take a while to cool everything down. Your suggestion of ceiling fans would be a nice addition and I will strongly consider adding those for the next rental season. The a/c unit in the house is only 2 years old and it is maintained. As you mentioned the cottage was spacious and comfortable for a large group (8 adults and 2 children), i.e. a substantial living room area, 4 bedroom and 2 bathrooms, 2 decks, close access to the beach, on the oceanside and it is clean. Cottages of this same size, layout and location go for a much higher premium but I have kept my rent at a very reasonable rate so it is affordable for families and their pets to have the opportunity to spend their vacation at the beach. I appreciate you taking the time to write a review. I will seriously consider your suggestions and hope you will rent from me again in the future.

This place was very nice. It doesn't have a lot of curb appeal, but inside has everything you'll need for a week long vacation. Bedrooms are set up well, chill out spot outside, and all very clean. I stayed with 8 children and my wife, and we had just enough space for all of us. Beach access was a little tricky for us to figure out, but it's right near the house. Whatever you do, don't walk barefoot outside! Cacti and prickly flowers everywhere. We plan on staying at this location again.
