Capo Coda Cavallo is a small peninsula and takes name for its shape of a horse's tail.The 'Villaggio East' is on a granite’s promontory with its stone clad architecture cascading down the hill towards the sea, the views are breathtaking, the gardens are beautiful and well maintained. The whole area is included in a protected zone: The Marine Park Tavolara and Molara. The Capo Coda Cavallo beach is a 10 minute walking, and the nearest supermarket is a few hundreds meters.
There are many other wonderful beaches: La Suaraccia (1.5 km from the accomodation) where you find the The Diving Center Aquarius; Cala Brandinchi (also known as Taithi); Lu Impostu, Puntaldìa (close to golf club); La Cinta; Porto Taverna; Cala Girgolu all are reachable within a very short time by car that is essential. The area is very well served, in San Teodoro Town centre, you can find: bars restaurants, pizzerias, supermarkets, nightclubs, car/ bike rental, horse riding school and also a kite surf and windsurf school.
We had a wonderful holiday in Sardinia.
Gabriella and her friend Liviana were most welcoming and helpful. It was lovely to meet them both and have the reassurance that someone was on hand to help if needed (we didn't need to call them during our stay). Gabriella provided us with some welcome treats such as wine coffee and cakes (always a winner with our family!).
We chose the accommodation to suit our family - two adults and three teenage boys and it was perfect for us. We had such fantastic weather that we were outside much of the time, although there was space indoors for everyone to chill out to escape the midday sun.The property we found as described. The trees and plants on the estate were in full bloom and well looked after making it a really pretty place to stay. All the properties were built using natural materials.
It is just a short walk down to the beach. And what a beach - the sea really is that turquoise colour and a good temperature for swimming and cooling down. On the beach you can hire loungers (but we didn't), also motor boats, pedalos and kayaks. One morning we hired a pedalo and travelled to the island in the bay and I swam back to shore.
We enjoyed having the bars and cafes on the Villagio Est site (for Euro 2016 viewing!) just a short stroll away. We had meals out in each of the three restaurants and enjoyed ice creams and cocktails there too. We also made good use of the swimming pool. The whole site was not over busy at this time of year and there was always space at the pool. We also chose this location as it was convenient for the dive centre Aquarius which two boys booked up with. They had a fab time diving.
We hired a car at Olbia airport which is a short distance away (30-40 minutes) and it was straightforward to travel to Capo Coda Cavallo. We visited Cala Gonone on one day (long drive 1-2 hours) and hired a motor boat to visit all the coves and beaches that are inaccessible by land. This was a great day out. One day we drove to the north of the Island to visit the Costa Esmeralda and Capo Testa as well as some inland areas including giant olive trees and Nuraghe (ancient ruins) where we saw a bat colony.
The other places we visited were much more local: Brandinchi and Lu Impostu beaches which were also beautiful with crystal clear water.
Altogether a fantastic week's holiday. Gabriella let us stay on the last day as no other guest was arriving, so we had a very relaxing last day with a late flight home.
"The owner is really nice and always very helpful. The house is clean and spacious. It is located in breathtaking and fantastic settings. The location is ideal for spending relaxing time with your family. Beaches nearby are suitable for small kids. Car hire is highly recommended as there is so much to visit in the surrounding area. We spent a lovely time and had an unforgettable holiday. We're looking forward to come back next year!"
We are very happy with our holidays! The beaches nearby are really beautiful and the place is pretty quiet. The closest beach is very nice with a great view on the little stony islands in front. We found it really great, that this beach had sun till quite late. So we stayed at this beach pretty long. This spot was the last one in the area to loose sun in the evening.
Gabriella and Livania are very friendly. Livania has helped us a lot! Personal thanks from our family!
The house was nice, clean, well equipped. There is not really a direct view on the sea from the house. Only if you are standing, but not sitting at the table. But it is still fine since the beach is very close and you can enjoy a panorama on the sea and rocks if you go just a little bit up the hill.
The house has 2 bedrooms and a 2-person couch to sleep in the living room. The only minus of this place is one of the bedrooms, located downstairs. It is very dark and has only one little window. It is difficult to refresh it. So the humidity does not go away.
If you stay in this location, you will need a car, since the shops are in the village nearby.. and also to discover other beaches of the area. For us it was not a problem.
All in all, we have spent great holidays!
We had a wonderful holiday in Gabriella's apartment at Capo Coda Cavallo and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. We travelled from Gatwick with 3.5 year old and 6 month old and stayed a week.
The weather in mid May was perfect 24 - 29 degrees the whole week and lots of sun.
The flight to Olbia is just under 2 hours and collecting the car was easy. Flights and car hire through easy jet were cheap in May outside school holiday/bank holiday times. Our car was upgraded free of charge to a larger, brand new shiny car so that was a great start to the trip.
The apartment is in a complex called "Punta Est" which occupies the best position up high overlooking Capo Coda Cavallo. The views from the apartment complex really are breathtaking. We couldn't believe how lucky we were to have chosen this place and for such great value too. The views are truly 5 star!
The apartment complex is the nicest one (in our opinion) on the promontory with its stone clad architecture cascading down the hill towards the sea. The gardens in the complex are beautiful and well maintained and in May the whole area was alive with wild flowers. Just stunning.
The apartment is very clean and newly decorated. We all loved it and felt very happy and at home. It has views of the amazing turquoise waters Sardinia is famous for. The cleaning lady Laura was very helpful and patient with us.
The complex has two restaurants which are very good and the wait staff helpful and friendly. Our waiter at Caffe Della Rosa, Alessio, spoke perfect English which was handy as English was not really widely spoken we found, and with the two little ones I hadn't had time to brush up on my very basic tourist Italian. There is wifi in the restaurant area of the complex which worked fine and the coffee was very good - a very important thing!
The best part of the area is of course the beaches and these did not disappoint. A car is essential to get to them and to the supermarkets/gelateria etc. We took a brilliant beach shelter with us which allowed the baby to stay cool and sand free and meant we could stay for 3-4 hours on the beach. Our toddler absolutely adored the beaches. There are a great number of shallow/surf free stunning beaches and he could quite safely play for hours while we watched on with no need to worry about him being swept away.
All in all we had a brilliant time. We felt that "Punta Est" was a really lucky find and we will have wonderful memories of our stay.
How to get there: from Olbia by car in two ways: take the SS 125, towards, Siniscola (You will cross Murta Maria, Porto San Paolo, Monte Petrosu,) after about 20 km, after the village of Lutturai when you see a yellow tourist sign after about 20 km turn on the left on a street with a touristic sign, Capo Coda Cavallo;
or take the fast road, 131, towards Nuoro, take the exit San Teodoro you are on the SS 125, take the direction towards Olbia; after 3 km you will find on the right a touristic sign Capo Coda Cavallo;
it is a country road about 5 km long that crosses a hill, you will see several apartment complex : Cala Paradiso, Porto Coda Cavallo, Le Farfalle….go on, the last one, when you see a big stone with a dolphin: is the “Villaggio Est Capo Coda Cavallo” .
