About the property

3 Bedroom, 1.5 Bathroom, 6 Sleeps

Come stay at Meadowburn Farm in a most charming Yellow House! Located in the heart of 590 acres of preserved farmland just 55 miles from New York City, Meadowburn’s Yellow House is the perfect retreat into pastoral countryside. It has 3 bedrooms sleeping up to 6 people, 1.5 baths, a kitchen, dining room and living room. The view from the dining room and back patio has been declared the most spectacular view on the farm.

Please read our full description so you know exactly what to expect.

The Yellow House:

The house is approximately 1000 sq. ft., and has been recently updated. The first floor features a kitchen, dining room, living room, half bath, and bedroom with a double bed. The second floor includes a full bath and two bedrooms, one with two twin beds, and one with a queen bed. The back patio basks in light from morning until dusk.

The Yellow House is situated at the edge of Meadowburn’s active farmstead. You might see cows grazing and perhaps a tractor pulling a cart of hay on a weekday. You will hear chickens clucking, ducks quaking, and birds chirping. On a summer eve you will see fireflies dancing about and bright stars in the sky. The large backyard overlooks barns and rolling meadows, with views of Wawayanda State Park in the distance. Please note that this is not a good place for someone who does not appreciate seeing and hearing the daily activity of a working farm.

The house is equipped with Wi-Fi, direct TV, and has a gas grill, washer/dryer, dishwasher, central heat and A/C window units. Being a farm house with the electric service coming through the woods, we have been known to occasionally have power outages. Should this occur you will be reimbursed for the period the power is out. Candles, battery lights and extra blankets are provided.

The Location:

Meadowburn Farm is located just 55 miles outside of New York City at the southern tip of the Hudson Valley between Warwick, NY, and Vernon, NJ. The Yellow House sits at the edge of Meadowburn’s central dairy farmstead, within 590 acres of farm and woodlands.

Across the road from the Yellow House are the historic gardens of Helena Rutherfurd Ely, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The gardens can be toured with prior arrangement.

The Wawayanda Creek winds though the property, and is a great place to catch a trout or two. There are vast meadows, woods, and country roads to walk.

Clean, cozy, inviting!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the "yellow house!" Kaylie gave us a warm welcome, she was flexible with our checking as our flight was in hours before the check in time. That was a great start. The suggestions for the local areas of interést were immensely helpful. We walked the Wawayanda Trail and enjoyed soaking our feet in the cool water of the stream. We also toured the wonderful garden on the Meadowburm farm. We met and petted the animals. My girls thoroughly enjoyed meeting the pig and naming the cows. We also took the Meadow trail and it was so much fun! We found the local stream on the day before we left and that completed our stay! Loved how clean everything was. From the towels to the linen- everything was pristine! And what can I say about the staff?! Kaylie was amazing, going above and beyond what a hostess needs to do. She even gave us stamped postcards for us to send to our loved ones! What a wonderful touch! We are planning on coming back in two years and will definitively stay at the wonderful yellow house!

For those visiting the JW Headquarters - this is a perfect place to stay. Being around all that nature will definitely make you meditate on Jehovah's love and yearn for the New World that He lovingly promises.

It is so beautiful here. The animals make it even more enjoyable.

So many of us are busy with day to day life, we often miss out on what is really important. Here at the Yellow House, we all stopped to smell the flowers, pet all the farm animals, drank wine while sitting in the grass under the warm sun, and even took a jog down Dekay road which is beautiful. Our kids didn't want to leave. Hopefully we will return someday.

Gorgeous setting, quiet surrondings and updated, very clean and cozy rooms.

We very much enjoyed our weekend stay at the yellow house. It was a perfect location for our activities planned for the weekend in Vernon. Very relaxing atmosphere at this farm. We will

definitely book this again if we attend the activities again in the future. No need to look elsewhere.

Charming home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Arriving to a nice bouquet really helped us feel welcome and reflected the tone of our stay (an improvement over the booking process in which a separate contract was sprung on us after they'd already accepted our payment and online reservation).

The location and setting was excellent for our one-week stay; my wife and I came from across the country with our two daughters (11 and 9) for medical treatment. The home offered as much or as little activity as we wanted. It was great having the entire house to ourselves with the chicken coop and pig pen as our nearest neighbors! For perspective, the pig's at least 50' away and the chickens must have been twice that - all far enough away to not smell them, while being close enough to enjoy seeing them.

As far as accommodations, we didn't even use the bedroom on the main floor as the two bedrooms and full-bath upstairs sufficed for our sleeping routine. During the day the half-bath enabled us to live downstairs. In addition to the three bedrooms, the separation of the living room, kitchen and dining room provided for isolated retreat zones in the house, let alone abundant area outside. The gas stove and oven worked great for our meals, when we weren't using the gas grill. I appreciated that this ol' farmhouse is updated with GFCI outlets, smoke alarms, and UV water filtration.

The home is centrally located between Vernon and Warwick, with easy access to AT trail parking lots, antique shops, fishing (at Waywanda State Park), horesback riding (at Legends or Quiet Creek Stables), wineries and cider tastings. During your stay, be sure to eat at least once at the Grange, a farm-to-table restaurant nearby which impressed even our picky eaters! We also enjoyed Bellvale Creamery and Space Zoo & Museum.

Though the herd was a much smaller than pictured, our girls fell in love with the animals (steer, hogs, goats, chickens and calves) that were there and visited the calves multiple times; they were even able to help with some gardening. We also saw glimpses of gophers (or groundhog?) in the field and a fox in the distance. Our girls loved it, and the gardener and farmer were very friendly.

We couldn't fit everything there is to do in a single week, and would look forward to staying here again - and if this yellow house is booked, I'm sure the "red house" next to the gardens across the street would be just as fine.
