About Anne & Joyce
A Brit and an American happily married for 25 years, we love the area. Its a good life. Come see for yourself this special place.
Anne & Joyce purchased this House in 2005
Why Anne & Joyce chose El Sobrante
Centrally located for Napa, East Bay and San Francisco close to transportation. All amenities within a 5-10 min drive. Yet the hill exudes the illusion of seclusion and the house is charming beyond belief. Then there are the million dollar views! We've lived on the hill (5mins away) since 1999 and have always loved our special spot. We purchased the cottage in 2006 as an investment rental, with dreams of one day living in it when we downsize, still working on that!! So until that happy day it will be available for travelers from all parts of the globe.Built in 1948 by a poet and an opera singer from Hungary, this artsy cottage is made from recycled wood from the Richmond Shipyards (is this one of the first eco houses???). We love this house, it's natural setting is perfect, we are drawn to the open water view all day and night. We hope you feel the same and enjoy quality time here.
What makes this House unique
Charming, comfy and convenient you have everything you need here and some.. It's quiet and unique, feels like country living yet moments away from the metropolis. Abundant wildlife, all the animals, birds and even reptiles you would expect to see here in Northern California. You will see more deer than people on this special hill!!! We love the fact the cottage is surrounded by heritage oaks and how lovely the views are walking around the hill. The location is perfect for access to all of the east bay, San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Napa, Marin; all within 30 minutes. After a busy day,we have a great place for you to come back to. Unwind, relax, rest and recharge so that you can go back out and do it again tomorrow!!

Serene with good views close to the city
Had a good day with friends. The patio has some great views of the bay and a beautiful view of the sunset. The kitchen and the grill work well if you plan to make some food.
Great option if you want a place to hang out for a couple of days with close ones away from the noise of the city.
Peace of the Country in the City
Another world of quiet & serene at The Cottage. A beautiful view, wildlife & peaceful comfortable place to stay!
Cute, little Cottage
This wonderful cottage was a great hideaway after a busy and hectic day in San Francisco. Very peaceful.
Nice and cozy
Cute little cottage with all you need. Super comfy bed but the place was quite musty, perhaps due to all the rain, and the heat was on but not very warm. There was a portable heater available so we were able to keep the bedroom warm and toasty.
Pleasant and comfortable stay
We recently stayed at Anne and Joyce's quaint cottage. It is located at the top of a hill with beautiful views of Pinole and San Pablo Bay. The place was clean, well-kept and had all the amenities we required - refrigerator, microwave, utensils, TV and a good internet connection. Anne stopped by on the first day to welcome us and asked if we needed anything. Check-in and check-out procedures were convenient. My son forgot his toy at the cottage. Joyce was nice and kept it safe until we could go back and collect it. Highly recommend this cottage!
Quiet, private, amazing view!
Just what the doctor ordered. Loved this place, thanks for having us!
