Mike and Ann johnson purchased this house in 2009
We purchased this property to possibly build a shed for boats , bikes etc. , but decided that the house turned out to be so cozy, we wanted to share it with others.
Within walking distance to so many things, Lake , Beach, Trails, Downtown, Churches, Restaurants ect.
My dad and I were in the area to visit Itasca State Park. The house was perfect for our needs with plenty of space. The decorating was fun, "up north," and helped you feel like you were getting away. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. Nice front porch to sit on. The kitchen was well stocked and had a great built-in eating area. Mike and Ann were very helpful and considerate, even bringing over a book and CDs Ann thought my dad might enjoy. The Heartland trail is very close for biking/walking. Would definitely visit again.
We were in Park Rapids for a family reunion and needed a lot of space for 6 adults and 3 kids. The Johnson's house was perfect for our family. The upstairs was ideal for our daughter's family as it allowed us to put the kids to bed while the adults stayed up. The house was very clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. The location was within walking distance of downtown and the grocery store. Heartland Park and the Heartland Trail were about a block away. We would recommend this home to anyone.
Mike and Anne had everything ready. The house was in perfect order with all of the comforts of home including a coffee pot, picnic table in the back yard, chairs on the front porch and comfy beds.
I hope to be back as we had a wonderful time. Thank you, Anne and Mike. You really have a gem.
It was a great stay! Mike and Ann couldn't have been better hosts. We plan on coming back.
This house was a true treasure. I loved that the home had the original character but had all of the updates of a modern home. Sitting in the morning around the kitchen table started each day off and sitting in the family room at night let us enjoy our family. Mike and Ann were very welcoming and helpful. We had not one complaint. I looked forward to our next stay.
How could it be any better ?!? No, really.
Everything you could possibly need is already waiting for you in this cozy cottage.
Everywhere you turn you find something nice, from books to read, board games, playing cards and WIFI.
They even collected up brochures and local maps for all the sites and activities in the area !
There is actually a twin bed and 2 singles upstairs as well as the queen in a separate room from the TV room which has a pull out couch.
If you have never been to Park Rapids you are in for a treat, be sure to check out main street only a few blocks away along a paved path across the red bridge along the fishhook river.
You will find an old fashioned candy store, old time soda shop that serves food and ice cream, all manner of shops on main street as well as some more modern fare like the "Y" steak house just north of town 2 miles.
Try Rocky's Pizza .... WOW ! Or Molly Poppins gourmet natural eats, or .......
The paved Heartland trail starts literally 1 block down the road and winds 30+ miles through the woods, over rivers and passes through Dorset, Nevis, Akeley and Walker. A bikers dream. There is a bike renal shop only 1 block from the cottage. If you are a horse lover, there is a parallel trail for horses as well ! (BYOH)
The Fishhook river is wide and clean running from the dam 2 blocks downstream to the large Fishhook lake 4 miles north with excellent fishing on the river as well as the lake. The landing is only 2 blocks away in the same park with a playground, beach, tennis and basketball courts, bathroom facilities and ample parking.
Itasca state park, home to the headwaters of the Mississippi river (where you can actually wade across) is 21 miles North featuring some of the only remaining virgin forest in MN with huge towering pine trees and pristine lakes, a few of which you are allowed to put in a boat or rent pontoons. Bike rental available at Itasca as well.
If you are looking for some place that has pretty much everything for anyone but still has that quiet vacationland vibe you seriously need look no further.
