Renovated an old building full of charm, situated between sea and mountains

The Old Mill is a big stone building with character, built in the XIX century in the typical architectural tradition of Corsica. Initially devoted to the production of olive oil, it was completely renovated in 2007 and its three levels were converted into three comfortable and independent apartments. The Old Mill is located at the foot of the mountains of Teghime, at the southern entrance of the village of Oletta, on the heights of the charming port of St Florent, which is only 8km far. It is located on the edge of a small river with trees, a quiet and charming site opened on the mountain and the bush.

The situation of the Old Mill is very strategic: it is located at just few minutes from the sea and the exceptional beaches of Saint-Florent and Agriate. It lies at the heart of Nebbio, close to the most picturesque villages of Corsica, as San Michele de Murato (8 km) and on the edge of the wilderness of the desert Agriate. It is finally close to the road to Cap Corse and only 30 minutes drive from Bastia.

THE GARDEN LEVEL- APARTMENT 1: On the garden level is located the first apartment, with an area of 90 m². It is organized on two levels and offers beautiful volumes. Independent entrance by a terrace to the south, facing a small garden bordered by a river. Parking is private.

It has two large bedrooms, two bathrooms with showers and bath, a kitchen and a large lounge with a beautiful stone fireplace. In the south, the dining room leads to a small garden beside the river with a terrace with a pergola, ideal for an outdoor lunch, or simply to enjoy nature.

Finally, the apartment is fully equipped and tastefully furnished. It has many cupboards and storage furnitures; the kitchen is fully equipped and has a fridge, freezer, 4 burner stove, a washing machine and all utensils and dishes needed for your stay.

FIRST FLOOR - APARTMENT 2: The apartment is 75 sqm, access is via the East side of Old Mill by a small bridge over the river. Parking is private.

It has two large bedrooms, two bathrooms with showers and bath, a kitchen and a large living / dining room. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a fridge, stove 4 burners, a washing machine and all utensils and dishes needed for your stay.

In the south, there is a terrace above the river of about 18 m² offering a magnificent view of the mountains and the bush which allows taking meals outside. In the north, the master bedroom opens onto a terrace of about 15 m².

In the south, a terrace of about 30 m² offers superb views of the mountains and the hills. It allows taking meals outside in the shade of a large fig tree and provides access to a large garden of over 1000 m² populated by fruit trees bordering the river. This garden is open to the bush and can be the starting point for walks in the mountains and the hills.

THIRD FLOOR - APARTMENT 3: Apartment of 75 m² located under a beautiful wooden frame which gives it spacious volumes. Its access is through a terrace on the south facade of the building which is reached by an independent staircase. Parking is private.

The apartment has two bedrooms, a large bathroom with two velux light and equipped with a large bath and shower, a large lounge & dining-room with a beautiful stone fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a fridge, stove 4 burners, a washing machine, a dish washing machine, and all necessary utensils and dishes for your stay.

A wonderful Place

The old mill is a spacious, well equipped and tastefully furnished apartment. We stayed on the middle floor: our balcony overlooking the river was a most tranquil spot. Nodding off to sleep with the noise of a tumbling stream is a delightful experience. The building, an old olive press mill, is very quaint, private and quiet, being slightly off the main road. Very close to the apartment is a small grocery store with freshly baked bread every morning. Oletta village is a charming, rustic Corsican village. From this location we explored, by car, the beautiful north coast: Saint Florent, Desert of Agriates through to Calvi. I highly recommend the Vieux Moulin for a quiet retreat. Our hosts were very gracious and helpful and ensured that our stay exceeded our expectations.

Calme et dans la nature

Le vieux moulin se trouve à l'entrée du petit village Oletta. On a l'impression d'etre dans la pleine nature, passant le temps sur le balcon tout près de la petite rivière avec une belle vue sur les montagnes.. À l'autre coté de notre appartement, qui se trouvait au 1er étage, on a une petite terrasse ombragée. La maison est située pas loin du grand supermarché Leclerc (10 min. avec la voiture) et de la charmante ville St. Florent au bord du mer (15 min.). On a besoin en tout cas d'une voiture pour découvrir la beauté du nord du Corse, comme par example le Cap Corse impressionante ou la belle vallée d'Asco avec sa rivière rafraichissante....Nous avons aimé beaucoup notre séjour dans le Vieux Moulin, parce que l'appartement était propre, bien entretenu et assez grand pour une famille de quatre personnes. L'équipement est simple mais absolument suffisant. Les propriétaires Maite et Arnaud sont très sympas et serviables. Nous recommanderions cette location sans restriction à nos amis!

Sehr schöner Aufenthalt - leider zu kurz

Die alte Mühle ist ein Gebäude, das mit viel Geschmack und Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet ist. Alle in der Beschreibung angegebenen Einrichtungsgegenstände sind vorhanden. Sollte tatsächlich etwas fehlen bzw. der Mieter einen guten Vorschlag zur Erweiterung der Ausstattung machen, so hatte die Vermieterin (in unserem Fall) das Angebot erweitert und für einen neuen Weber-Grill gesorgt. Die Vermieter waren während des gesamten Aufenthalts als kompetente und liebenswürdige Ansprechpartner zu erreichen und haben sehr wertvolle Insider-Tipps (zu möglichen Besichtigungen, Ausflugszielen, Restaurants und Stränden) gegeben.

Das Raumklima in der alten Mühle ist selbst bei großer Hitze (über 30° C Außentemperatur) insbesondere in den Abendstunden sehr angenehm: durch dicke Außenmauern und das Bächlein.

Die alte Mühle ist durch ihre Lage ein wunderschöner Ort zum Entschleunigen und Entspannen, bietet allerdings auch durch ihre Nähe zu St. Florent viele touristische Attraktionen und Möglichkeiten der Freizeitgestaltung. Jede der drei Wohnungen hat einen separaten Eingang und Außenbereich, so dass die Privatsphäre der jeweiligen Mieter geschützt ist.

Un écrin de verdure

Le vieux moulin est une magnifique bâtisse en pierre dans un écrin de verdure avec le chant des oiseaux et le doux bruit de la rivière qui vous berce et vous apaise. Qu'il est bon le soir de se retrouver sur la terrasse sous le figuier pour se rafraîchir après une journée passée à la chaleur de la plage. Nous avions l'appartement N° 3, il est très agréable avec sa charpente apparente, tres lumineux et agencé avec beaucoup de goût, il ne manque rien, tout est mis à notre disposition pour nous permettre de passer un tres bon séjour. Le site est idéalement bien placé à 8 mins du port de Saint Florent et de ses plages, a 30 mins de Bastia. Proche également du désert des agriates et de la merveilleuse plage de saleccia( eau bleue transparente et sable blanc), il y a également le départ de la route du cap corse à la sortie de Saint Florent avec les falaises de Nonza et sa plage de galets noirs et le magnifique petit port de centuri. Je terminerai en vous parlant de Maïté et d'Arnaud qui vous accueillent dans leur maison avec beaucoup de gentillesse , ils vous donneront les bonnes petites adresses de resto(notamment dans le désert des agriates ou vous assisterez à un extraordinaire couche de soleil sur le maquis). Je pense qu'il est inutile de rajouter combien il nous tarde l'année prochaine pour nous permettre de vivre une nouvelle semaine idyllique. Un grand merci à vous Maïté et Arnaud et bises à Joan ( le grand copain de notre fille Charlotte)

A pleasant stay

The building is very pleasant looking and has a rustic appeal, although worn enough to require some attention in places. It sits at the junction of a main road and a side road on the outskirts of Oletta. Parking was perfectly adequate.

We stayed in the top apartment. This looks to be the largest of the 3. We couldn't book this apartment up directly on this website so went direct instead to the owner who was very good to communicate with and accommodating. The only downside is that we paid extra money to transfer funds to a bank account out of the country. Additionally there was a charge for linen and another for cleaning. Our contact whilst at the accommodation was with the very pleasant cleaner (non English speaking).

The apartment has a lot of individual charm and character (some interesting furniture and a library of books). In some ways it was more like staying at a friends house than a dedicated holiday home and to that extent it suffered in terms of cleaning standard (heavy dust under beds and on higher surfaces), a slightly haphazard and chaotic mix of kitchen utensils, other random items throughout and some common disposable items available whilst others were not (half a roll of toilet paper, no spare bin bags..).

We have often been fortunate to benefit from a 'welcome basket' when staying at some properties but missed that gesture here.

The garden was very pleasant and nice to relax in. There is a steep drop to the stream below though. Our 2 boys really liked the (very high) tree house to the side of the property.

We were hassled for a few days by some locally (owned) dogs that became a bit too familiar and needed chasing off on a few occasions although were not threatening.

Oletta is a pleasant village and within walking distance (20 minutes gentle stroll to the village square). You can find a couple of restaurants there, one of which has a great view. There is a small supermarket about 7 minutes walk away along the busy main road.

Whilst we were staying there a significant fire caused extensive damage to the hills just north of Oletta. Watching the fire fighting effort by land and air was particularly dramatic although it was saddening to see the damage caused.

In terms of general location, with a certain amount of reasonable driving there are many highlights that can be reached-the Cape, Bastia, St Florent, many of the northern beaches and some beautiful villages inland, as well as the amazing mountainous landscape around Corte.

Owner's Response: Mr. Nick, I appreciate your assessment although I wanted to point out that the Vieux Moulin is a building that was restored in 2006 and is well maintained. I don't think there are forgotten areas, rather what is wanted is to respect the original architecture that forms part of the identity of the island of Corsica. If you prefer a more modern architecture, Corsica also offers design hotels/apartments . For information to all tenants, apartment number 3 is not the biggest. The Vieux Moulin has a larger apartment (at garden floor), although it is true that apartment 3 is privileged to have a large garden for exclusive use. As for the decor and layout of equipment, everything is designed to make the tenant feel at home, as the decor and equipment are closely linked to the uniqueness of the building. I hope we have achieved a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The apartments are well equipped, the kitchen offers a lot of utensils so that the tenant can enjoy a full vacation. Above all, we want to avoid formatting rent where the tenant feel limited and without comfort. Corsica is an island that offers a wide variety of landscapes, is very wild and natural. If there are animals that have come to the house such as our neighbor's dog, I'm sorry but if the animals are fed, they will always feel welcome. I'm surprised you found dust in the house, especially as the cleaning lady is very conscientious and does its job very well, maybe there was some oversight, if so receives my appology. I appreciate you valued my level of involvement and understanding, especially when you asked me if you could give me your deposit in pounds to avoid expenses in foreign exchange. If you had bank charges, it is normal: you are paying from a country which currency is not euro. Regarding cleaning costs, it is clearly specified in the notice in the rates section, as well as linen and towels service, which is optional. Moreover, it is specified in the contract.
