Dunkeld Cottage is a chocolate box style cottage in a gorgeous village setting - ideal for touring the Lake District! The cottage features stunning beams and original period features throughout, with everything thought of to make your stay a comfortable, relaxing one! The cottage dates back to 1820 and yet has been extremely well maintained and looked after - with all the mod cons! The kitchen/breakfast room is particularly lovely and has pretty views over the garden and is very spacious. All of the appliances you could need are here - including integral dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, slow cooker and of course a hob and double oven. There is a spacious and cosy lounge/dining room which features a truly amazing fireplace, beamed ceilings throughout, comfy sofas, TV with numerous digital channels, super-fast WiFi, and a desk with leaflets on the local area and further seating. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, again, boasting glorious beams throughout and are very charming. The master bedroom features a superking bed - or it can be turned into two single beds - ideal for families. The second bedroom has a double bed and both bedrooms have plenty of storage for your clothes and personal items. There is also a bathroom with a bath - ideal for a bubbly soaking after a long Lake District walk! The garden is fully enclosed and private and there is plenty of room for you to bring your bikes - and probably anything else like a canoe etc.. - just ask us! We love the fact that Ullswater is around a 15 minute scenic drive from the cottage and our favourite day out is a day's walking along the Ullswater Way and combining it with a boat ride along the lake and something to eat in Pooley Bridge or Patterdale. However, equally, the Pennines are the backdrop of the cottage, and if you want to head away from the crowds that can sometimes gather in the summer, then a delightful stroll around Pennine country may be just what you need! Likewise, Keswick is only a relatively short, scenic drive away - we recommend a boat trip, a hike up the famous Cat Bells, followed by a pub lunch or dinner in the fantastic town centre. There's so much to do - you'll need to keep coming back to do more! :)

About Chloe Hibberd
My name is Chloe Hibberd and I currently live in the South of England, but the Lake District is my true passion! My husband and I fell in love with the Lakes within a year or so of meeting each other and ended up visiting it so many times that eventually we decided we'd love to own and run some holiday cottages in this wonderful part of the country. Having stayed in so many holiday lets ourselves, we really feel as though we know what makes a great holiday and are truly committed to making sure our guests have the best holiday ever! At the end of the day, we know how we all have to work hard to afford our holidays, so we feel it's the responsibility of the holiday home owner to ensure that those precious days don't disappoint!

Why Chloe Hibberd chose Penrith
Dunkeld Cottage really is a super cute cottage and we fell in love with it. It's detached (albeit by a whisper!) and has a beautiful open plan lounge into the dining room and is full of beamed ceilings and hidden quirky corners! The cottage dates back to 1820 and yet has been extremely well maintained and looked after - with all the mod cons! We particularly love the kitchen/breakfast room which has lovely views over the garden and is very spacious. All of the appliances you could need are here - including integral dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and of course a hob and double oven. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, again, boasting glorious beams throughout and are very charming. There is also a bathroom with a bath - ideal for a bubbly soaking after a long Lake District walk! The garden is fully enclosed and private and there is plenty of room for you to bring your bikes - and probably anything else like a canoe etc.. - just ask us! We love the fact that Ullswater is around a 15 minute scenic drive from the cottage - we got married on the shores of Lake Ullswater, so it is particularly memorable for us. But equally, the Pennines are the backdrop of the cottage, and if you want to head away from the crowds that can sometimes gather in the summer, then a delightful stroll around Pennine country may be just what you need!

Had everything we needed
With two kids, 5 years old and 10 months, we needed somewhere that would suit us all and this was perfect. Travel cot, high chair and a stair gate was provided and plenty of space for our little one to crawl about and space for 5 year old to play with the toys. Kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. Lovely little village and well situated to get on the road quick and do some exploring. Have recommended to friends and would definitely return.
We booked this cottage as a base while we were sorting out my late mother’s house and belongings. It was always going to be a difficult week but coming back “home”to Dunkeld Cottage every night was just the bit of heaven that we needed. When we arrived, after a six hour drive, the lights and heating were on to welcome us and there was a lovely bottle of wine too! The kitchen is fabulous....I’m an ex chef and I promise you it is very well equipped. The sitting room with grandfather clock and open fire is so comfortable. The bed in the main bedroom is huge and so comfortable. The bathroom is warm and there is lots of hot water! The village is lovely, especially the village stores right next door.....useful for papers, milk, local knowledge. Chloe the owner was absolutely brilliant. She was quick to respond with any info we needed and arranged an extra couple of days with the minimum of stress. Can not recommend highly enough. We will definitely stay here every time we return north in the future. Thank you for everything, Chloe x

Really clean, well stocked kitchen with all the pots pans etc that you need. Nice open fire, and very quiet location. Great for us and our dogs.

Lovely Cottage with Just the right amount of Technology
My Wife, 9 month old son, Cocker Spaniel and myself enjoyed a relaxing weeks holiday in this lovely cottage. The weather was in different but the cottage was well equipped enough to spend days inside taking advantage of the modern kitchen appliances, wifi and digital tv.
There is not much to do in the area around the cottage but the Lake District is a short drive away with Ullswater only taking 10-15 minutes by car. There is a post office/general store hybrid next door to the cottage and a Bistro offering better than pub quality food a short walk away.
Definitely recommend but travel is required if you want to explore.
Thank you so much for your review - so pleased you had a lovely stay in Dunkeld Cottage and enjoyed all the mod cons!
It sounds as though you had fun - and yes, Ullswater is very conveniently located for us which is fab as there is so much to do there :)
I am in the process of writing some blogs for our website on things to do in the immediate vicinity of the cottage to help guests as they may not be aware. You can stroll along the River Eden to the next village and have some refreshments, go on local walks, visit the National Trust property Acorn Bank, go for a hike up Dufton Pike and High Cup Nick, hop on the Settle to Carlisle railway - plus the area is fantastic for cycling if you want to bring bikes next time :) But exploring the Lake District is great fun and very close by - we love Keswick as well as Ullswater. Pleased you enjoyed the bistro pub in the village - we've always loved the food there and had some memorable evenings strolling there from the cottage.
I do hope you manage to come and stay again!
All the very best,
Nestled at the foot of the Pennines and within 15 minutes of the gorgeous Lake District. Ullswater is the closest lake where you can enjoy a stunning boat ride on the steamer boats and combine it with glorious mountain and lower level walking. Keswick is around a 20 to 25 minute drive away, where the beautiful and much loved Derwentwater provide a stunning day out, finishing off in the village with the ample shops and bars and restaurants. Kirkby Thore itself is also blessed with a very well renowned bistro restaurant which is mentioned in the Michelin Guide yet won't break the bank - it's within walking distance of the cottage. In addition, a delightful half an hour stroll from the cottage along the banks of the river Eden take you to a number of other local pubs and cafes.
