We are life partners (26 years) who decided to buy the house across the street when it came available. Over the course of two years, we gutted and rebuilt it from top to bottom. It comes fully furnished with practical and artistic pieces we created ourselves.
Background: We both grew up trailing our military dads (Army & Air Force) around the world until we grew up and started our adult lives. Still, Shelly calls Michigan her family home and Eileen calls Vermont her home of family origin.
Shelly Campbell purchased this house in 2009
The interior and exterior of the property is in pristine condition, the neighborhood is richly diverse—white, black, Native, Mexican, Hmong, mixed race, gays, rich, poor, middle-class, democrats and republicans—you name it, we've got it. The location (by car) is 5 minutes from downtown St Paul/10 minutes from Minneapolis (to answer the number one question posed by folks: yes, we are 5 minutes from the Xcel Energy Center). A fully-functioning photo studio is located on the backside of the property—need a "Linkedin" photo, or, an update to the ten-year-old family photo? It's free with your 4-night stay! Check out Shelly's photos: search on "Shelly Campbell Studios."

—You'll walk in and find everything you need for your stay. This house totally beats staying in a hotel—and, it's a lot cheaper!
Avi Gardner sent two of her best company representatives: Kelly and Katie. The two were great guests at the house—even though they were busy running all over the cities passing out Noosa Yogurt samples, they managed to keep the house immaculate, were very quiet and courteous. And, Noosa gained Twin Cities converts: during their stay Kelly and Katie gave us samples, and we've gotta admit, we're now hooked (little did we know, our neighbors already were hooked).
The "attention to detail" made this house a winner for us. What a joy to have personal artwork displayed throughout the house. Shelly is an artist, fabricator, photographer, and woodworker. Wow, what a neat person to meet. She made us feel at home. We will be back! We visited to be close to Mall of America, but the house and Shelly just made the trip so much more 😎
This was a wonderful experience. Checkin was seamless and after we settled in, Shelley came over and showed us everything we needed to know about the house. She answered all kinds of questions we had regarding the area and restaurants etc. She was easily available if we needed anything. Following a snow storm she even came right over and cleared our sidewalk and driveway with her snowblower. The house was very clean and had all kinds of items available in case you forgot anything, such as lotion, q-tips, or even tweezers! We felt at home right away. The bedrooms were very large and the beds and linens were comfortable. Lots of closet space too. The kitchen was good sized and had many of the basics stocked as well. They made this home easy to stay at. Check out was simple as well. I would definitely stay here again.
My husband and I and our two twenty-something children stayed here during Thanksgiving vacation to visit family in St. Paul. We thought the photos were too good to be true, but the accommodations were better than we could have imagined--attractive furnishings and artwork, a well-stocked kitchen for cooking in terms of appliances, pots and pans and basic foodstuff (coffee, variety of teas, butter, condiments, etc.), and a terrific host in Shelly . We had many family members over for a dinner, and there was ample room for all ages to talk, play board games and beat the drums in the den. In fact, they asked for the link to this site for their relatives who will be visiting in the future. There are shops, Mexican restaurant, and a café in walking distance, and downtown St. Paul is only a few minutes away. We drove easily to Minneapolis too for the museum, movies, and dinner. Beyond the house itself, which was immaculate, comfortable, and charming, Shelly made our stay homey--she let us in early from a morning flight, showed us around, and texted us every day to assure we had everything we needed. Her suggestions for dining were terrific (Moscow on the Hill, for example), and the magazines and brochures she supplies in the house also provide good recommendations. Our final treat was a robust family photo session by Shelly, a professional photographer, who offers this gift for a five-day stay--a wonderful memento and creative shot for framing. We definitely will return for our family visits and can't imagine staying anywhere else in St. Paul Mary Lou from Washington DC
If I had mapped out a perfect place for our group to stay, Shelly's home would have been my ideal scenario. It's a beautifully decorated, comfortable, spacious home. Plenty of room for our family of 5 adults, equipped with every amenity we could have hoped for. The beds were amazing, the linens perfect. And scattered throughout this space, examples of the owners' amazing art. The entire home was a delight.
Because we were there for 4 nites, we were lucky enough to be able to take advantage of the complimentary photo shoot. Shelly quickly caught on to our family vibe, and joined right in with the fun. The results were amazing.
I also must comment on the exceptional hospitality of our hosts. We had arrived from various parts of the country to help complete a rather complex remodeling project for a niece. In addition to providing a marvelous lodging, Shelley even offered to lend us any tools we may have needed and forgotten. Now that's hospitality! Whenever we visit St. Paul again, this will be our home away from home! Thank you, Shelly and Eileen!
Wonderful unique home owned by 2 artists. We were surrounded by their respective works all over the home. I came into town with my 2 daughters and other family members to hunt for a wedding dress for my youngest daughter. This home is nicely located close to Grand Avenue in St. Paul where we did our wedding dress shopping.
The owners live across the street and were wonderful in checking in and keeping us abreast of the neighborhood happenings.
Very nice stay!
We could not of asked for a better location or house, and dealing with Shelly was just exceptional. I use home away often for business travel, and have yet to come across someone with her dedication to the process.
The house was exactly as described if not better and everything you could possibly ask for from a detail standpoint exceeded our expectations. The house was fully stocked awaiting our arrival, which afforded us time we would have otherwise had to use running around looking for small items at a local store having arrived and wanting to see the local sites.
If you are going to be in the St. Paul area, this is not a location or owner you want to pass on. I can assure you that if we are ever back in the area, there's no one else I would even consider calling
The house is located in a quiet neighborhood just south of downtown St Paul, and 10 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. There are many museums in the Twin Cities, including the Science Museum of Minnesota, The Children's Museum, The Walker Art Museum,, Minneapolis Institute if Arts, as well as international theater such as the Guthrie (and a multitude of local live theater options). If you're into sports, we've got the new Vikings Stadium being built, Target Field, and the Saint Paul Saint's newly completed outdoor stadium. And shopping? Try Grand Avenue in Saint Paul (6 minutes from the house), or check out the Mall of America (only 15 minutes away). Restaurants are toooooooo numerous to mention—we love to eat, and we've got the whole gamut of fine eateries in the Twin Cities! Check the Guest Manuel for a list and our personal reviews, some with photos.
