About Shelly Campbell

We are life partners (26 years) who decided to buy the house across the street when it came available. Over the course of two years, we gutted and rebuilt it from top to bottom. It comes fully furnished with practical and artistic pieces we created ourselves.

Background: We both grew up trailing our military dads (Army & Air Force) around the world until we grew up and started our adult lives. Still, Shelly calls Michigan her family home and Eileen calls Vermont her home of family origin.

Shelly Campbell purchased this house in 2009

Why Shelly Campbell chose St Paul

The interior and exterior of the property is in pristine condition, the neighborhood is richly diverse—white, black, Native, Mexican, Hmong, mixed race, gays, rich, poor, middle-class, democrats and republicans—you name it, we've got it. The location (by car) is 5 minutes from downtown St Paul/10 minutes from Minneapolis (to answer the number one question posed by folks: yes, we are 5 minutes from the Xcel Energy Center). A fully-functioning photo studio is located on the backside of the property—need a "Linkedin" photo, or, an update to the ten-year-old family photo? It's free with your 4-night stay! Check out Shelly's photos: search on "Shelly Campbell Studios."

Guestbook comments from the owner

Avi Gardner sent two of her best company representatives: Kelly and Katie. The two were great guests at the house—even though they were busy running all over the cities passing out Noosa Yogurt samples, they managed to keep the house immaculate, were very quiet and courteous. And, Noosa gained Twin Cities converts: during their stay Kelly and Katie gave us samples, and we've gotta admit, we're now hooked (little did we know, our neighbors already were hooked).

A True Haven

  • 5 of 5

Our time in St. Paul was hectic, and this spotless and cheery house proved to be a wonderful, relaxing refuge at the end of every day. It is convenient to so much of what the city has to offer, located in a great walking neighborhood, and full of unexpected creative touches. Shelly is a good resource and a great communicator. We highly recommend Two Muses for a Twin Cities stay.

Owner's Response: Sally and her family proved to be wonderful guests. Even though their hometown in Texas is hours away from St Paul, I can only hope they'll find a reason to visit sometime I the near future. Let's hope so!

A great place to stay in St. Paul

  • 5 of 5

A great place to stay in St. Paul. We were here for three nights and had an extremely comfortable stay. The house is decorated with Shelly's beautiful and unique art. The location is very convenient to downtown St. Paul but still has a very nice neighborhood feel. It's great to talk to Shelly, she is very interesting and enjoyable host.

I Highly Recommend The Two Muses

  • 5 of 5

This was an ideal place for us to stay, we had to be in the Twin Cities for a family funeral and staying here was a God Send. Being in a place that was not only comfortable for the body, but also for the soul was great. It allowed us the ability to relax and grieve as a family after the stress filled days. Shelly and Eileen have done a wonderful job of making the house feel cozy and warm.

Owner's Response: I'm so sorry InaSue, Roger, and their family have lost two dear family member. I met them at a very sad moment in their lives, but even in their grief they shone through as good, upstanding, and warm folks. In the future, I'd welcome them back to the guest house in a heartbeat—hopefully under much happier circumstances!

Clean, bright, beautiful home with fabulous & often functional metal & wood art made by owners.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this spotless, perfectly located near downtown St. Paul, gem. There is beautiful art throughout and a wonderful little sun room filled with instruments. They have added an abundance of thoughtful touches - from fresh flowers to a bowl of peanut M&M's (which pleased us immensely). Thank you for a great stay.

Best VRBO we have ever stayed at in 5 yrs of renting

  • 5 of 5

The "attention to detail" made this house a winner for us. What a joy to have personal artwork displayed throughout the house. Shelly is an artist, fabricator, photographer, and woodworker. Wow, what a neat person to meet. She made us feel at home. We will be back! We visited to be close to Mall of America, but the house and Shelly just made the trip so much more 😎

Owner's Response: Really cool folks, and I hope they return for a future welding workshop - maybe two Shell(e)y's in the shop will spark up some wild creations! Hope to see you again soon!

Cozy, clean, and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful experience. Checkin was seamless and after we settled in, Shelley came over and showed us everything we needed to know about the house. She answered all kinds of questions we had regarding the area and restaurants etc. She was easily available if we needed anything. Following a snow storm she even came right over and cleared our sidewalk and driveway with her snowblower. The house was very clean and had all kinds of items available in case you forgot anything, such as lotion, q-tips, or even tweezers! We felt at home right away. The bedrooms were very large and the beds and linens were comfortable. Lots of closet space too. The kitchen was good sized and had many of the basics stocked as well. They made this home easy to stay at. Check out was simple as well. I would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Amy, her mom Jackie, and Amy's two aunties were great guests for the house. I really enjoyed their curiosity about the Twin Cities, and maybe next time Jackie can be enticed to take a walk in the hood, despite the chilly (single digit!) weather. The house was left in perfect order, and I wouldn't hesitate to invite them back for their next stay!

The house is located in a quiet neighborhood just south of downtown St Paul, and 10 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. There are many museums in the Twin Cities, including the Science Museum of Minnesota, The Children's Museum, The Walker Art Museum,, Minneapolis Institute if Arts, as well as international theater such as the Guthrie (and a multitude of local live theater options). If you're into sports, we've got the new Vikings Stadium being built, Target Field, and the Saint Paul Saint's newly completed outdoor stadium. And shopping? Try Grand Avenue in Saint Paul (6 minutes from the house), or check out the Mall of America (only 15 minutes away). Restaurants are toooooooo numerous to mention—we love to eat, and we've got the whole gamut of fine eateries in the Twin Cities!
