|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
The chalet is located on a ridge top over looking the Village of West Glacier and the Amtrack train station. A short 5 min. walk takes you past the train station and into the village so that you can enjoy all that the Village has to offer-gift store, restaurant, bar, rafting company, post office and the Canadian Visitor Center. The West Glacier entrance to the Park is just one-half mile from the chalet. Mountain views from the front of the chalet are of Glacier Park’s North Fork and into Canada.
It is only minutes to the 734 miles of spectacular hiking in Glacier. Glacier View Golf Course at West Glacier and world-class golfing resorts are just 30 miles away. Wild and scenic rivers form the park boundaries and provide for rafting, kayaking and fishing.
This lovely chalet has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and one with a full size bed and two single rollaway beds. All sleeping is accommodated in the upstairs bedrooms for your sleeping privacy. The bathroom has a tub/shower .
The chalet is a high tech home with hydornic heat in the floor, quality windows, carpet, slate and wood floor coverings. The house is sided with cedar and stucco with log framing in keeping with the style of Lake McDonald Lodge, which was the inspiration for the design of the chalet. The house has 3 decks, a covered entry porch and large patio. The patio is perfect for outdoor entertaining with plenty of seating available. The chalet is fully furnished to provide you a comfortable and relaxing vacation. The kitchen is stocked with all service ware to cook, prepare & enjoy meals and a washer and dryer for your convenience. All linens are also provided.
A DSL/wifi and radio (good NPR reception) is available for your use.
No smoking in the house!
We purchased the land in 1997 and built the chalet over the next 2 years. Owner wanted the chalet to have the style of Lake McDonald Lodge and when you see Lake McDonald Lodge you will see the stucco, ceder and logs that reflect this style.
Sharon DeMeester purchased this chalet in 1997
The Park is a magical place
This was our resting place on an epic state park journey. We wouldn't have done it any other way. We appreciated the opportunity to enjoy this home and the glass of wine on the back porch!!
Immaculate little house, nice design, well-supplied kitchen, and the most comfy bed I've slept in for quite a while! Owners are attentive and available. 4 adults were a little worried about only 1 bathroom, but it worked out fine. For people with privacy concerns, know that the 2nd bedroom is not walled off. But for us, that was no problem. We'd return in a heartbeat!
Sharon, the owner, was quick to reply to our inquires, so booking was quick and easy. The cottage was perfect for my wife and I. It was stocked with all the essential staples including coffee! We enjoyed sitting out on the deck and eating our meals out there, you can literally walk down the hill to West Glacier for meals and gift shopping, and it is very close to the West Glacier entrance to Glacier National Park. Highly recommended!
This was a great rental! It is a charming chalet with two extra roomy bedrooms, each with a balcony you can easily relax on and a nice deck off the living area on the ground floor. One bedroom is private and one is loft style but it worked very well for two couples. The kitchen is completely stocked with cookware and there were plenty of supplies left over from previous renters or from the owners (paper towels, toilet paper, plastic bags, at least 5 pounds of sugar!). Having a washer/dryer available made packing so much easier. The only thing that would have been nice would be to have a half bath upstairs, but that as a small thing compared to how good the rest of it was. This property is in a great location, just up a hill from the West Glacier park entrance and less than an hour's drive from GPI. It really could not have been better. The owners were quickly responsive to answer any questions and provided lots of good information on things to do and generally about the area.
There is no grocery store in West Glacier, so if you fly into GPI stop in Columbia Falls at the Super One on your way in and stock up. It's on the road in so you can't miss it. There are some small mercantiles in WG where you can get a few basics. There are several restaurants-Eddies in Apgar Village (huckleberry pie), West Glacier Restaurant (good blueberry pancakes) and the Belton Chalet, a lovely old inn (good, but expensive). We ate most of our meals in on the deck with a view of the mountains in the distance.
I could go on and on about the things to do in Glacier, but you have probably already figured that out for yourself. We did go on the Sun Road which was spectacular, but you can also get wonderful views driving on Hwy. 2 towards East Glacier.
I would highly recommend the Chalet and give it an A++ rating.
Beautiful house and perfect location. Overall a wonderful stay. Would love to return.
Okay, so there is a downside to renting this property. Here you are in the one of the most beautiful places in the world with access to a seemingly endless number of incredible hikes to see Glacier National Park in all its glory and all you'll want to do is sit tight and enjoy Sharon's home. If you can swing a "rest" day during your visit, you'll be set to enjoy this well maintained. clean, and wonderful home.
Positioned just south of the West entrance, the trip into the park is quick and easy. The home is beautiful, the furniture is luxurious, and the view off the deck looks right into the park. Add to that a nighttime sky that lights up with the Milky Way and you've hit home run.
Our family of five fit nicely, the kids missed a TV (but who cares!), yet had internet access to keep them happy after exhausting days of hiking.
I'd advise stopping at a grocery store in Columbia Falls on your way in as there is not much available in West Glacier. We were able to fix nice meals in the home in the kitchen that was stocked with all the basic cooking needs.
We went to a rodeo show in Columbia Falls one night and I'd highly recommend you go, if the schedule works out. It was a blast and a great way to see the "local" community.
Overall, we can't say enough about how great this worked out for the family.
. Our chalet is located on the boarder of Glacier Nation Park at the village of West Glacier. It is just a 10 minute drive to the West entrances gate.
It has outstanding mountains, lakes, hiking/backpacking on 734 miles of trails.
