Exceptional villa, with a wonderful host

  • 5 of 5

The villa exceeded all our expectations (6 adults), with fantastic views across the wonderful surrounding countryside of Rome. Due to the great location, we were able to spend time relaxing around the pool, with time spent in Rome, exploring one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The villa has great facilities and is extremely well-appointed and exceptionally clean. We hired a car for our stay, but the villa is also close to the station, so we also went into Rome on the train. Sonja was a fantastic host, taking us to the supermarket on our first day and providing invaluable guidance on our day trips; where to park, eat etc. She truly made us feel welcome from our arrival to the last day!

"This was an incredible value, wonderful town, close to Rome, wonderful location and absolutely the most fabulous hostess. She was friendly, welcoming, educated, gracious, knowledgable. Even before we got there, she was sharing knowledge and doing her best to make our visit the most wonderful she could. The accomodation was clean, well-stocked, perfect for the five of us and we could have gotten in a few more and still had plenty of room. Having a washer was so great. We would highly recommend both this house and hostess to anyone with no reservations. SHe went out of her way to make our stay with her outstanding. She speaks English, Italian, German and Dutch. THat was really helpful in making our way around Italy and not speaking much of the language. The pool was a huge plus with our three kids."

"Sonja's house is a gem. It is in the perfect location, quiet surroundings with stunning views. My husband and I stayed with two other adults and their two small children for the week. It has all amenities you would need - even a DVD for the children. The swimming pool is set within a beautiful tranquil garden with panoramic views over the hills. There are some great nearby restaurants within walking distance. I would thoroughly recommend Sonja's house for rental and Sonja offers a very warm welcome and is there to help with any questions."

"This is an extremely well kept, clean and stylish property. The place holds all that is required for a relaxed holiday in beautiful surroundings with the oppurtunity for a visit to the stunning Italian capitol. From the nearby trainstation there are direct lines to the centre of Rome and Da Vinci airport. The owner made sure we found the place and was very helpful throughout our stay. Except from a few neighbouring dogs' nightly conversations the place is very quiet and peaceful. My family and I enjoyed our holiday very much and would recommend this place to anyone who loves the gorgeous landscapes of Italy and wants a remote place to return to (and a private pool to cool off in) after a loong day's sightseeing in Rome."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sonja's villa outside of Rome. Our trip was packed with plans to see Rome, explore some of the small towns in the nearby countryside, and spend some relaxaing time by the pool.

The villa was a beautiful setting with privacy, comfort, convenience, and gorgeous views. The garden and pool area were very well-kept and the house itself had everything we needed. We didn't use the third bedroom on the lower level, because it is detached from the rest of the house and requires a separate entrance to access - instead Sonja unfolded the living room couch for us to turn that into a bedroom.

Sonja was very helpful overall, coming in to check on us each morning to see if we needed any help or advice. She acquired train tickets for us and offered lots of information about nearby sites.

There is a gas station a few minutes away and a huge supermarket just 10 minutes away. Getting to Rome is convenient, either by train or car, but having a car is really a must, since the train station itself is several minutes away by car.

One tip for the summer - bring bug spray for sitting by the pool."

"This was a great locatio...

"This was a great location for our intended visit of Rome and surrounding area, including a visit to Pompeii. Our Dutch host Sonja was very welcoming and immediately made us feel at home. A variety of information was available including maps and literature in English, French, German and Italian. Sonja who has lived in this area for a considerable time was a source of good information about what to do and places to visit.

The accommodation was very comfortable and has that extra dimension you get when you live in another persons home. When Sonja has visitors she has a separate self contained apartment in the basement of the villa she uses. Additionally a few drawers and cupboards are unavailable; however that was not an issue for our family party of 4. The main bedroom was very tastefully decorated and the king size bed clean and comfortable. Spare suitcases could be stored under the bed. Wardrobes were located in a separate area. The main living area consists of a very spacious lounge area with sofas and chairs. This is adjacent to a dining area. The living area as a whole was a great place to chill out. Externally the villa has a veranda around two sides of the house providing a cool and pleasant shady area, including a terrific outside eating area. A separate kitchen of generous proportions was well appointed with most gadgets, pans etc you would expect. The Hob is gas and the oven electric and operated well though the oven did require explanation. A kitchen table for 8 places was also available which overlooked the pool. This also had the TV and a selection of satellite channels in German and Italian – which made watching the Beijing Olympics interesting, not so much because of the language, but because we are not used to the commercial breaks suddenly appearing and never knowing who won. There are two bathrooms, one containing a bath and the other a shower. The study doubles as a second bedroom with a comfortable quality double sofa bed which sleeps two people. A wardrobe and small storage area were available along with the study table. This room opens out on to the pool and had a good view. A third room is available in the basement; however this is accessed externally via a staircase under the veranda. This was ok for our 14 year old teenager who was quite happy with this arrangement, but I doubt a younger child would wish to do this. The room was comfortable with a king size bed, side cabinets and a large wardrobe. The main living area also had a double sofa bed to accommodate larger parties of children who are too young to use the basement room.

The pool was very good and we enjoyed many hours, usually in the early or later part of the day using it. Sonja keep this very clean and daily maintained it so it was ready for us by the time we had all had our breakfast. Because she was available this was an ideal time of day to chat with Sonja and user her local knowledge to help us plan the day.

The property is very secure and surrounded by a strong border fence. Access is via electrically operated gates. All the other properties about appear the same and many have a number of large dogs. This seems to be common in rural areas.

A BBQ is also available and this was clean and of sufficient size for our need. A good supermarket is available in the local town being only 11km away. However most Italians do not seem to understand English well, but they are very friendly so it was no problem finding anything we needed. There are a variety of good restaurants in the locality and also in Rome, and Sonja could make a few recommendations.

The accommodation is 3Km from the main railway line so you can easily get into Rome; however as you will have undoubtedly hired a car, just drive into Rome and park in the central underground parking area. This takes about 40 minutes at most, and you are then within easy walking distance of all the main tourist attractions. The car-park is by a Metro station; however it seemed a bi ...
