Enjoys views across to Victoria, BC, the Coast Guard station at Ediz Hook, with the ship and ferry traffic in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Port Angeles Harbor. Alder Street Retreat is in a convenient location just 1 mile from the Olympic National Park Visitor's Center, 17 miles from Hurricane Ridge, and 1.5 miles from downtown Port Angeles. Just 1/2 a mile from Franklin Elementary School, 1/2 a block to Peninsula College campus, trails, and city bus stop, and 1 mile to Olympic Memorial Hospital. This 1/2 acre property is backed by the White Creek ravine affording country privacy...all within the Port Angeles city limits! With a chef's kitchen and easy indoor-outdoor flow, you will LOVE cooking and entertaining in this home!

We love animals but, for medical reasons this is a pet-free house; members of our family have allergy-induced asthma. Alder Street Retreat is not available for guests with pets or service animals. Thank you for respecting our health issues.

About Virginia Southmayd, Property manager

Amelia grew up in Port Angeles and after meeting her husband in California they wanted to move back to this small town to raise their daughter and be close to grandparents. Our jobs have taken us back to California but, we hope to return to Port Angeles so are keeping Alder Street Retreat as a vacation rental and in the future as a retirement home for our family.

The waterview at Alder Street Retreat is impressive but, we really fell in love with the large, private backyard. We love to entertain and relax in our home and the flow from the kitchen to the backyard is so easy and convenient. Beyond the large backyard gate is the Sanctuary where you can pitch a tent or even bushwhack down into the ravine to explore. Behind the backyard fence is also a shortcut trail to Peninsula College, passed the blackberry bushes. Within a few minutes are trails behind Peninsula College into old growth forest and world-class birding. Walking to the Community Playhouse, the Fine Arts Center, our daughter's elementary school, and more, make this such a convenient location to get around without a car.

What makes this house unique

1) HOME COOK'S DREAM KITCHEN AND EASE OF ENTERTAINING: In addition to its great location, Alder Street Retreat is equipped with a home chef's dream kitchen. Upstairs seamlessly flows into the backyard with courtyard doors from the living room, hallway, and master bedroom. 2) WATERVIEW WITH PROTECTION FROM NORTH FACING WINDS: The backyard faces south bringing lots of sun into private backyard entertaining and relaxing, while also enjoying the water view through the windows facing north and also while protected from the north facing wind. This wind protection is a unique benefit of Alder Street Retreat because many north facing waterview homes in Port Angeles have their patios facing north, which means wind, shade, and cold. There is a huge temperature difference between the front of the house versus this home's backyard. As you're shopping for vacation rentals in Port Angeles, keep this in mind!! It is one of the many unique benefits of Alder Street Retreat, which will make your stay so much more enjoyable and comfortable! 3) DOWNSTAIRS PRIVACY: The downstairs is equipped with a family room (large flat screen TV), full bath, bedroom, extra sleeping blankets, pillows etc, and entrance from the carport. Downstairs offers desired privacy for teenagers or when sharing with multiple families. 4) THE SANCTUARY: The private sanctuary, just behind the backyard, is a perfect spot for you to enjoy a picnic or bring a tent and enjoy your own private campsite!

This review is for Virginia, the property manager of Alder Street Retreat, to acknowledge how wonderful it was for me to come back home to such a clean and comfortable house. As the homeowner, it was my first time seeing the house since we moved away and listed our house on VRBO. Of course, the feel of the house is special because it REALLY is our home, but, I was just so blown away by Virginia's attention to detail in terms of cleanliness and decorating. Every year we will periodically vacation in Alder Street Retreat and it is so comforting to know that our property is in the capable and loving care of Virginia. And, yes, of course I am biased, but, wow...Alder Street Retreat is awesome! In our new home/city we don't have the expansive water views and the spacious great room with vaulted ceilings. So, just like all of the guests, I stepped in wowed by the views. Because we stay in our own home, and expect a high level of TLC, you can expect that you will also step into a clean, relaxing space with comfortable beds and everything you need in the awesome kitchen. And, if there's something you find missing, please let Virginia know. She is more than happy to help you out.

Drive a leisurely 17 miles (~30 minutes) up to Hurricane Ridge for hiking, skiing, snowboarding and sledding. 30 minute drive to Lake Crescent. 20 minute drive to Salt Creek Recreation Area for beachcombing, surfing, paddleboarding, tidepooling, kayaking, and whale watching. 20 minutes to Freshwater Bay for fishing. 10 minute drive to Port Angeles Marina to launch your boat during the Halibut Derby.

Loved the house, the location and the stunning views.

I could not have been more pleased with the lovely setting. Physically the house suited our family perfectly; everyone was quite comfortable. Everything we needed was seemingly at our fingertips. The location was particularly convenient for our plans for our Port Angeles visit.

Home Base

This house was so easy to be in- so many different spaces to enjoy. Great kitchen (loved the pot filler- must have one now). Heated bathroom floors were a dream come true. We had lots of fabulous adventures using the house as a home base. Eclipse viewing from the back yard!!!

Amazing Vacation in the Olympic Peninsula!

This s a beautiful home with a great layout for a large group. The yard is perfect for kids of all ages (we had 4-13) and the house has incredible views of the Port Angeles harbor. We visited many different areas in the Olympic National Park each day then back to the house to grill and relax. The beds were very comfortable, plenty of towels, extra blankets and a very well stocked kitchen. We will never forget this family reunion!

Absolutely loved this place!

We've been renting through VRBO for years and have never been happier than with the Alder Street home! It is even more beautiful than the photos lead you to believe. The backyard is like a park and is perfect for young children with a swing set/fort, trampoline and hot tub. The kitchen is the best stocked one I've ever experienced in a vacation rental. It was super clean, too.
