This charming old farmhouse is hidden away in a valley of the unspoilt and breathtakingly beautiful haute Corbieres, far from the maddening crowds of summer. The large living room and kitchen both lead out onto the gravel covered terrace where you can contemplate the crystalline blue of the 11 metre pool contrasted with the vibrant green of the lush vegetation that surrounds it. The pool is bathed in glorious Mediterranean sunlight all day long which hinders the effort to tear yourself away to go and visit the glorious countryside drenched in Cathar history and mystique. However the free wine tastings at the dozens of vineyards in the region is slightly more tempting for some. The whole of the ground floor is split between the large living room and kitchen while the bedrooms are divided between the other 2 floors. There is an extensive garden around the house which often has delicious veg on offer.
House details: This 200 year old farmhouse is spacious but has an unusual layout. There are 3 bedrooms on the top (2nd) floor; a large double, a very large twin and a small single, there is also 1 bathroom. On the middle floor (1st) there is a large reception room ( formerly a second kitchen/living room), a small double, an en suite single and a bathroom with bath. On the ground floor we have a large living room and a large farmhouse kitchen with a dining (rustic kitchen) table. From the kitchen you access an annex, which we call the granny flat, and that has a bathroom (the washing machine is located here) on the ground floor and a double bedroom with terrace on the first floor. The house retains its old world charm with a lot of original features. However due to its size and age it isn't well suited for toddlers with open staircases and high windows.
Facilities: There is a TV and a PlayStation 2, with 1 console. There are over 10 games and over 120 films available as well . All the beds and electrical appliances are new and there is even an iron available. There are 7 outside lights and the pool also has underwater lighting which all help to maximise the al fresco experience. Bathroom and hand towels are provided but not pool ones. The fenced garden is spacious while not massive, however there are 7 hectares of woodland attached to the property. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a 5 ring gas cooker, hand held blender , electric oven and more or less everything you'll need to conjure up spectacular dishes, except the chef. There is a good sized Outback BBQ for the essential poolside cooking along with 2 tables that seat 6 each and 2 sunshades.

The house chose us, it really did. It's much bigger than we wanted, it was way over our budget and more secluded than we would have liked. We were blinded by love from the first photo we saw of the house. So much so that we decided that we would make an offer on our first viewing. We didn't because the house was in a much worse state than we had imagined. However the house just would not let us go and we kept brooding over it until we decided to go and see it again. There were lots of little signs that kept niggling away at us, for example; in the kitchen a previous owner had drilled 2 letters into the wall, KD, the first letters of my surname and my wife`s surname. Just a coincidence but a fateful one. It was raining the day of the second visit and we discovered some pretty bad leaks, the agent assured us that we would get a reduction in the price to cover the repair (one of the bigger jobs I ended up doing) and so the negotiation began. Finally they accepted the highest price we could afford and so the work began.
'I must say that you do not boast enough about your house! It is beautiful, and such a pleasure to stay in. The view whilst swimming in the pool was surreal and at times we felt like we were on a film set!' Robert and family.

This is a very charming house and quite private. Plenty of room for large families or a group or two. It really has all you could possibly need in terms of equipment and comfort. The pool is fantastic and the weather when we stayed was great, so much use was made of the outside area, garden, BBQ and pool. There is a generous vegetable garden with great tomatoes, cucumbers, beans etc. Would strongly suggest preordering bread, or a trip to the bakery (10mins drive), as it really is the last stop on the route and there is usually not much left when the van comes round. The local wines are very quaffable, the Blanquette and Cremant rather too so when well chilled. The well equipped family kitchen allows you to test your skills on the varied local gastronomic offerings.
It is a very friendly house, well laid out and condusive to serious relaxing!
Nous venons de passer 2 semaines de vacances dans cette superbe maison avec la famille et des amis. Elle est tout simplement superbe et très spacieuse. Les photos de l'annonce ne mettent pas forcément en avant tout le charme de la décoration intérieure de la maison et la vue surprenante du jardin ainsi que la terrasse privative dont dispose l'une des chambres. Les correspondants sur place sont des personnes agréables et toujours disponibles. Si vous recherchez le calme et le dépaysement, c'est la destination idéale.

Nous avons passé deux semaines dans la maison à 10 personnes : 2 familles avec chacune 3 enfants.
Le nombre de sales de bain et de chambres étaient amplement suffisant pour éviter de se marcher dessus ;-). L'équipement de la maison au niveau de la cuisine (vaisselle, ...) et des salles de bain (essuies, ...) était également impeccable. La maison, la terrasse et la piscine sont très agréables. Bref, nous y avons passé un très bon séjour. De plus, la région permet des activités très variées : rafting, canyoning, dégustation de vins, visite de châteaux Cathares ...
La description fournie est parfaitement exacte.
Cette grande maison ancienne a beaucoup de charme. Elle est extrêmement bien équipée (y compris en livres -en anglais et espagnol- et en DVD). Elle est confortable et vaste, on peut y vivre à 10 sans s'y sentir à l'étroit, et le séjour est frais, même pendant les très fortes chaleurs d'aout.
Etant très isolée, elle permet de jouir d'une tranquillité absolue.Les buts d'excursion aux alentours sont nombreux dans cette magnifique région que le tourisme n'a pas encore trop affectée (châteaux, abbayes et randonnées)
Le propriétaire et ses correspondants sur place sont très disponibles et accueillants.
En bref, nous avons passé un excellent séjour et recommandons sans réserve cette location à ceux qui cherchent des vacances à l'écart de l'agitation habituelle.
Maison très spacieuse et agréable à vivre.
Elle est en revanche très isolée, il faut donc s'organiser pour les courses.
Bellse visites alentour : Carcassone, les châteaux CXathares, l'abbaye de Fontfroide, Narbonne et Tautavel.
The house is located in the beautiful and unspoilt valley of the river Orbieu and is almost equidistant from Carcassonne and Perpignan. The region is brimming with vineyards, castles, legends of hidden treasure, village markets, rivers, lakes, forests, monasteries and even Mediterranean beaches. Fontfroide, Lagrasse, Peyrepertuse, Queribus, Arques, Rennes le Chateau are all within easy reach while a little further on you have the marvel that is Carcassonne. The red wine producing Corbieres, Minervois and Fitou and the wine tastings at their numerous vineyards await you, or if you fancy a bit of bubbly you have the Blanquette and Cremant around Couiza and Limoux. And to accompany your preferred beverage choose from a wide range of local farm products, whether meat, cheese or fruit and veg you will not be disappointed.
